There is an old Buddhist saying: "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." Well, if you're ready to step up, then the teacher has appeared. I studied with Rufus Philpot for several years and can say without reservation that he expanded my musical knowledge exponentially -- harmony, technique, feel, and soloing through changes. But more than that, Rufus showed me a deep understanding of the groove and the limitless role of a bassist in contemporary ensembles. Personalized attention and guidance, patience, and a boundless knowledge of technique, rhythm, and harmony, that's what you'll get when you study with Rufus. Are you ready to step up? I've worked with a number of bass teachers in the past but no one even compares to Rufus! His ability to combine theory with applied makes the lessons not only fun but continuously challenging to make me better. By dissecting the music I like he is able to show me how theory and structure makes the music that I like. The net result is lessons are fun. His overall mastery of music, the bass and theory make him an excellent teacher and worth the investment. They say "those who can do, and those who can't teach," they also say there's an exception to every rule and he's definitely exceptional!

Rufus' credentials as a player are second to none. As a teacher, he's patient, thorough, challenging, and intense. It's important to him that you not only learn to play bass and play it well, but play it correctly. Timing, theory, reading, playing along, and HOMEWORK are all part of his game plan. I'm a beginner and I couldn't be more thrilled.
