Mari Deno was absolutely amazing! I knew from the moment I met Mari that she was perfect to plan our event. I could tell she had a genuine passion and idealistic approach when it came to event planning. Her professionalism, patience and confidence put us right at ease and I felt comfortable letting her take control. Mari's attention to detail and organizational skills were outstanding. She made our World theme event an absolute success from beginning to end. Her creative decor, colorful displays and the most exquisite food displays were visually a feast for the eyes. Mari is budget conscious and offers very reasonable rates. She made our event enjoyable, stress free and easy. I highly recommend Mari for her professionalism, courtesy and her ability to understand your vision and follow through. I look forward to working with Mari with other future events.

This was a smaller wedding. The girls did a fantastic job, and delivered on: tables, servingware, plates, flatware, glasses, decor, canopy, flowers (great!), rose petals even!, cake, sign in, planning of all. They really made the thing turnkey and were exceptionally economical too. We love them, it went perfectly and could only give you the highest recommendations for their service.

Josh has fantastic taste. My place was a dump before he fixed it up. He has a ton of vendor connections and can make your place look like you spent tens of thousands of dollars on decorating for a fraction of the price.

They did a wonderful job with everything - they were organized, had great communication with me and followed through the day of the event. I am using them again for my other daughter's bat mitzvah next summer as well and can't wait!!!

Adrienne is awesome! I had a small (dining room and breakfast nook) project but she took it on and gave me great advice in our first meeting. She rolled up her sleeves and literally taped off walls for new art and a larger mirror. She didn't try to make me get rid of my dining room set and instead worked with what I had which I really appreciated. For my tiny breakfast nook she recommended a couple of new pieces that really opened up the space. She works fast and smart and on budget!! I would recommend her to anyone looking to do a small project or an entire home!

Rachel is a lifesaver. Hiring her to coordinate our wedding was one of the best decisions we made. We could not have done it without her. She's extremely professional, always responds timely, she knows the business inside and out, she has an endless list of vendors (all of which were also amazing), and on the day of she literally blew our minds with her decorating skills. Not to mention how accommodating she is, making sure it's exactly what you need or want it to be. We would absolutely recommend Rachel to anyone getting married. We would hire her again for another event in a heartbeat. Rachel is seriously amazing. Thank you! Thank you!!

Mercedes and Karen made decorating our new home a joy. They were wonderful in taking what we already had and making it feel new and fresh. With a few strokes of design genius, they transformed our home into an interesting, eclectic space that's both welcoming and comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed the process. They took care of everything down to the last detail and worked within our budget. Friends always remark on how our home is both beautiful yet comfortable.

Where do I start? I usually don’t write reviews but I absolutely had to write one for Ethic Design. I reached out to Ethic Design after a friend of mine recommended this firm for interior design. I wanted create a space that was both comfortable and stylish. Ethic Design walked me through the whole process and listened to what I wanted. They incorporated my ideas while also presenting their own innovative ideas. My new space is so cozy and stylish, i can’t get enough of it. Besides my beautiful living space, I also loved working with Zehra, the principal interior designer. She was so friendly and completely listened to my ideas while bringing her expertise to my home. I will 100% recommend Ethic Design for any interior design needs!

Ashley lives and breathes interior design. She is so professional and values every client. She listens to their needs and does her best to make every vision come to life. She is absolutely amazing at what she does. And she works with your budget!! I have had so much fun shopping at a variety of places with her... Homegoods, the flea markets, and Jonathan Adler to name a few. And I feel so comfortable communicating my wants and needs with her. One of her many strengths is to mix expensive and inexpensive pieces to make your home a subject of conversation at every party. Ashley (and her beautiful family) is trustworthy, which is a must when shopping for interior designers! Any client would be lucky to work with her.

I have lived in my house in Venice for over 20 years and it was time for a makeover. I thought I had somewhat good taste, but knew I needed help since I was doing the whole interior and didn't really know how to go about it. I hired Joey and she was a delight to work with. She was very gentle in steering me to what was actually good taste and coming up with a design that actually worked in my house. My house had very dark colors and oversized furniture that made it look like a cluttered dorm room. I now have a bright cheery beach house with furniture that is appropriately sized for the small rooms. And it was all done for less than half the price I thought I would end up having to pay. My house now looks like the millions bucks it is supposedly worth!!!

Isabelle did such a great job decorating my new home...I contacted her for initial design ideas and selection, but ended up having her style and furnish most rooms in the house as she had such a good eye for the aesthetic already. She definitely listens to what you want and is extremely professional and hard-working. The project was done in a timely manner, and I couldn't be happier! I referred her to a friend already since I was so pleased with her work. She is a superstar!! Thanks Isabelle!

I first worked with TwentyFour in 2010 when my Fraternity was producing its philanthropy pageant for Beckstrand Cancer Foundation. My team approached TwentyFour with no staging, lighting or design plans, but we left our first meeting with several new, great ideas and a lot of confidence that our event was going to be great. The coordinator for our event, Blake, was always prepared, communicated with us constantly, and he was very fun to work with. Our event went spectacularly, from setup to show to post-production. TwentyFour was easy to work with and made our job of raising money for our charity so much easier. I worked with TwentyFour and Blake again in 2012 and 2013 for a film award show. I worked in the special events department at Dodge College of Film and Media Arts and recommended them to our team. Not only did we have the same great experience, but I had the opportunity to meet more of the TwentyFour crew members who posses the same great energy and friendly character that Blake does. I know TwentyFour also offers coordination with catering, decor, talent booking, etc – they will always be on my list of vendors I use and recommend to friends.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

    • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
    • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
    • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
    • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

    • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
    • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
    • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
    • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
