These guys did an awesome job moving into our rather challenging new apartment complex. They worked as quickly as they could, were careful with all of our belongings and had all of the furniture perfectly set up for us in the apartment. Very easy to work with and I highly recommend! They made the move much less stressful and were very affordable compared to other moving companies.

Frank is the most professional, kind, courteous, polite, trusting, reliable and careful movers I've ever worked with. First, I must share with you that in the past 30 years, I've probably moved approximately 12 times using other companies. In each one of those moves, at least one appliance was damaged and something special was broken that couldn't be fixed or replaced. Frank is the first mover I've ever worked with who handled each and every item with very special care and DID NOT damage or break one item. In my book, that is one the most important things you want in a mover. I was also very impressed with how quick he was in responding to my request for a mover and his extremely fair pricing. He also followed up several times before the move to make sure he had every item required to make my move successful and smooth. He arrived at the exact time we arranged to start the move and worked non-stop until the move was complete. And, when the move was finished, he had me check each room to make sure I was completely satisfied and happy that every item was exactly where I needed it to be. And, one of the most impressive things Frank did that no other moving company has ever done, he made a follow-up call the day after the move to make sure I was happy with the move and if there was anything else I needed that was overlooked. Of course, I didn't need him any further as he did everything perfectly the day of the move. That is true professionalism! I only wish everyone I deal with in business was like Frank. My life would be happier and stress free. I recommend Frank to anyone who is looking for an outstanding moving company. Thank you, Frank, for such a great job. You are an amazing person and you did an amazing job!

I am the type of person who fastidiously researches before I act. When my family and I were moving back into our home post-renovation, I researched all the local moving companies through thumbtack. I made my usual spreadsheet with prices, reviews, licensed vs. insured, years in business & whether background checked; and reached out to my top choices. The family business News Moving Company quickly became my obvious first choice. From start to finish, Delila handled each & every question and concern I had with patience & diligence. She was very responsive and reasonable. Their reviews speak for themselves: over 90% are 5-Star reviews. They understood better than any my unique situation of not needing to move from one place to another, but rather move from Pods in my driveway back into my home. On the day of the move, Frank, Jesse, and one other mover showed up on time. The move was amazing - they were fast, yet super careful & conscientious. They handled our unique situation as if they’d done it a million times and kept in communication throughout. Unlike other companies in the past, they didn’t dilly-dally or stretch the time. They finished in the quoted minimum time and charged the exact fair price we had discussed. I highly endorse and would recommend News Moving to any friend, loved one, or reader like you! You will not be disappointed.

And by 11:30 AM - 20 years of junk - boxes - debris - file cabinets ...U name it GONE! And, the best part! They cleaned the garage and it sparkles now! WOW! Will recommend and will tell my Real Estate office - Keller Williams about them! Highly recommend :) Jeri

Larry is great!!! He and his son helped my parents move their small 1 bedroom apartment over this past weekend in 90 -100 degree weather. He delivered as promised and was extremely professional. He treated my folks and their belongings with respect and care. He also showed up on time; started quickly and got the job done quicker than expected. His rates are very reasonable for local moves. I have never had to hire movers before - always got family or friends to pitch in. So needless to say I was somewhat worried after hearing some bad stories about moving companies. However, I would definitely hire Larry again for my next move. Thanks again to Larry's Quality Moving!!!

Very professional and friendly moving company. I really enjoyed their service. They came with the packing material and necessary tools. They nicely wrapped and boxed everything and carefully loaded on the truck. They have completed the move within the estimated time and asked me to check the inventory. I checked everything and I was really fortunate because I did not find anything damaged or broken or missing. It was a perfect move which cost me a very reasonable amount. I highly recommend Flash Moving

We booked Alex very last minute because another moving company bailed on us at 9:30pm the day prior to move date. He gave us a very fair and reasonable price and his crew went ABOVE AND BEYOND our expectations. We definitely plan on using them again when it comes time to move our baby grand piano and HIGHLY recommend their services to all!!

He moved a large, heavy credenza. It was turned down by 3 charitable organizations that wasted my time by assuring me on the phone it would be removed, but each time their movers rejected it. Brett is careful, professional and pleasant.

Although I was slightly nervous at first due to some of the negative comments on this page, my boyfriend and I decided to take a chance on Mike&Shaw due to their unbeatable price. We compared with 5 other moving companies in our area and they provided us with the lowest price for our move (more than $400 in savings). From the first comment/question regarding the move, Marie was very attentive and timely with her responses. She was very honest and direct regarding cost, supplies provided and overall expected time frame of our move. She contacted me several times during the move to ensure we were on track and that we had no concerns. In addition, all the movers who assisted us were also very professional and timely. 2 men moved us out in 4 hours (from a 3rd floor apartment with no elevator access) and 2 men moved us in in 2.5 hours (into a 2nd floor apartment with no elevator access). Very hard working and honest professionals. Only negative was the length of time it took the movers to drive the truck to our new apartment. Took them 9 hours (with a regular car usually is 5 hours) due to having to drop off/pick up different movers in the process. Despite this delay, we are definitely glad we took a chance on this company and will no doubt hire them again for future moves.

These guys are fantastic. Extremely professional and efficient and the best value bar none from any moving company I've found in Los Angeles. I won't be using anyone else from here on out. Moved two couches for me up a trick flight of stairs at an impossible angle to my living room.

This was my first time hiring a moving company. Sergei and Edward were very punctual, courteous, friendly and extremely efficient. They wrapped all necessary furniture in blankets and saran wrap to protect it from damage. They brought a huge truck that had more than enough space. I moved into a three story town home, 50 miles away, and they got the work done in 3-4 hours. My door way is a bit narrow with a lot of stairs, but they managed to move in all my stuff without damaging anything. Even though it was a hot day they hustled the entire time. I would highly recommend their services to any of my friends, and would definitely use them for the future. Thanks again for making my move easy!

This was my first time using movers and if I move again I will definitely do it again. The two gentlemen showed up right on time and went straight to work. They were very responsive leading up to the move and on the day of they got in and out very quickly. They were careful with all of my furniture and placed everything right where I wanted it. It was a great experience.

Very nice people, nice company, reliable. Go for it. I went with a dedicated truck option and I don’t regret it. Never used a moving company in the states, only when I move here from France. I highly recommend. Both, they were so charming and helpful, as they transformed a “scary moving” in a smooth operation… Perfect move !

Alex and Jacob pretty much saved the day for this family of five. We originally hired a BIG interstate moving company and they totally dropped the ball, leaving us without any furniture and very stressed. The minute we called Alex we had our stuff in four days!!! From Seattle to Colorado. Bam! These guys are not only professional, but extremely friendly, positive and keep in constant contact. Amazing!! Can’t say enough about them. THE BEST!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
