Paul has just left from providing one of the best services I have ever experienced. I had 3 dead Aspen trees, the tallest being @ 30' tall. They were located in the back corner of the lot behind the gazeebo very close to 2 privacy fences. I was impressed as Paul scaled the tall tree with his 'rope and saddle' in order to 'top' the tree. Trees were downed safely and neatly. The limbs and trunks were removed and hauled away. The area in and around was raked and removed.I will definitely use Rope N Saddle Tree Service again in the near future. I will also recommend this service to others in need of any tree service. Thanks again Paul!

Roger did a great job! He was on time time, performed the task and some, and was about 1/2 the cost of the tree services I called.

Stephanie and her husband did an amazing job cleaning up my extremely overgrown and leaf-covered gardens/yard. They also removed two small-medium sized trees for us. The yard clean up was a bit expensive but overall, totally worth it!

Not very good. Juniper trimming was a disaster. Very high priced!! We've hired another tree service, to repair, fix and actually trim the tops of these evergreens. We're are so disappointed. And they even got paid more, than the estimate. Unbelievable. The price increase would have been just fine, if only their work would've reflected it.

We worked with Sheldon as the Customer Service Rep. for M&C Concrete. We were a little confused initially because we used Thumbtack to find a Concrete contractor, so when we saw that Sheldon does tree removal we weren't sure why he came up as an option for concrete. We did end up contacting him along with about 6 other contractors to get quotes on pouring a patio. He showed up on schedule with Gregorio from M&C Concrete and took some measurements. They had us an estimate the next day. We were very happy with the quote from M&C concrete and with their knowledge and experience. Sheldon was the middle man between us and M&C concrete, which he handled very professionally. The concrete has been finished for about week now and so far so good!

We had to postpone our original appointment because of weather but when our new Monday appointment came around Alex and his team were at my house and in the tree a few minutes earlier than the appointment. Having some one show up on time for an appointment speaks volumes about the way they take care of their customers and how they run their business. Alex’s crew was very professional. I think the clean up could have been a little better but it was nothing that my husband and I can’t take care of ourselves with a rake and a blower. Over all the experience working with Leaf Life Tree and Service was excellent and when I need another one of my trees worked on I will definitely call them back.

I hired Green Bean's Organic Ideas to refresh my back yard landscaping and plant several very large trees. They did a great job! Josh and his crew were talented, friendly, and timely. They showed up when they said they would and their work was excellent. I am planning on hiring them again to do a few more things in my yard in a month or so.

From the first contact and those thereafter, Gabriel was extremely responsive, and showed up on time with all the appropriate equipment to both clean and repaint a fireplace wall. He did it exactly as it should have been done and the finished result was excellent! What was the most striking however, was when he went outside to help another person we had hired to take down a tree in the back yard! It turned out that Gabriel is also a tree trimmer and immediately recognized that the person we had hired knew nothing about taking down a tree! He got the tree down in no time and the two men made some kind of deal between them where I didn't have to pay them both for taking the tree down! We were so impressed by this that we hired him again to trim another tree we had a few days later!

I am very pleased with my experience with Enrique (Henry) and his crew. The entire team did an excellent job on my project. They completed the work in record time and left my yards as clean and neat as can be. Enrique's (Henry) commitment to my specifications were exceptional and the price was reasonable and fair. They even hauled away logs and other wood debris that had nothing to do with the service for which they were hired. Great team work, for sure. Henry promised to return for any additional issues at no extra cost to me. I gladly recommend 1 Of A Kind Tree Service without reservation.

Stump Thumpers saved the day! Another tree contractor was unable to grind out several stumps as promised for us and we needed to find someone to remove them within 2 days to keep a big landscaping project on schedule. Nanette and Mark were great to work with, did an excellent job (I was especially impressed with how they set up barriers to contain the mess) and were reasonably priced. And they did it all in sweltering hot weather! I highly recommend them and have added them to my very short list of contractors I'd use again and refer others to.

We chose James and Jim after having 7 different tree services quote to take down our large and very dead Honey Locust. Not only were they the most reasonably priced, they did excellent work. It was a complicated removal, with dead limbs reaching over our home, and James approached it carefully and skillfully. Clean up was very good land they cut and stacked firewood so beautifully it looks like it belongs in a Pottery Barn catalogue. If you need tree work done I recommend you give James a call.

Removed trees and stump. Well done.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
