should have a few packing supplies available (tape, bubble wrap) & plastic cover for carpets would be helpful. Everything else, the crew & timing of move, went very well. I would recommend them.

HIRE THESE GUYS! THEY REALLY GET THE JOB DONE! I was in a bind. I had to move within a week and HAD to find a mover who also offered storage. I had used All My Sons in the past (who did an amazing job!) but they weren't available when I needed them. I then called up Xtreme Moving and spoke with the receptionist. She was very courteous, polite, understanding and respectful. They had an opening for the time I needed it AND they offered storage, so they were hired! I was told that Xavier would be stopping by my place in the next few days to look things over and give me a more accurate quote. That Sunday, Xavier met with me and I explained my dilemma to him. He was VERY understanding and told me he would charge me a flat rate instead of hourly. Apparently he was also the owner. He had 15 years experience as a mover and had started up Xtreme moving a few years ago. He put me at ease (apparently I was stressing out because of the move!) and told me he and some workers would show up the day before move day and help me pack. Then the following day, he would arrive with 4-5 guys and get everything moved into storage. He called me a few days later and said that he found a storage facility that would work for me. They offered the first month for FREE!! The day before moving day, Xavier showed up with a guy and a lady. In just 2 hours, they had EVERYTHING packed up and ready to go for the next day. I was amazed at how efficient, quick, careful and safe they were...but I was blown away the next day! That next morning, Xavier showed up with himself and 4 other guys. They shrink wrapped all my dresser drawers so I didn't have to unpack them. I was worried that they wouldn't be able to get some of my larger heavy dressers down the stairs but they did it without flinching. Just like the day before, in 2 hours, Xavier and his men were done. Everything was moved out of my apartment and ready to go in the truck. Next, we drove down to the storage unit. Along the way, I stopped by Safeway and got the guys some donuts (which they REALLY appreciated!). When we arrived at the loading dock, Xavier and the guys went to work immediately. They had everything unloaded from the truck and placed in my storage unit within 1 hour! I was amazed that Xavier was working right along-side his men. As the company owner, he wasn't just sitting in a corner watching they guys do all the work, he was directing, dictating and hauling stuff right along with the rest of them. He showed me what a real leader should be like. As a courtesy, I tipped everyone $10 each and they definitely deserved it! Almost a month later, I called Xtreme Movers and asked if they were available to help me move into my new apartment. They had an opening that fit my schedule and we met at the storage facility. This time, Xavier arrived with himself and 3 other guys. One of them, Chris, I remembered from the previous move. They went to work right away. They operated quickly, carefully and efficiently. This time, I got the guys some chocolate donut holes and again, they appreciated it! Within an hour, they were all loaded up and we then headed to my new place. Xavier had to leave in his truck for some other business, so the other 3 guys followed behind me. We arrived at my new apartment and I thought it might take longer to unload because there were just 3 guys. However, my new apartment was on the ground floor and had easy access. As the guys were walking through my place, they'd ask me where I wanted things. I appreciated their courtesy and politeness. One of the guys looked like he had been in the military because he was all "Yes sir!" or "No sir!", so I asked him. He hadn't been in the service but told me that he just tried to be respectful to everyone. They were all very polite and got the job done in about an hour. After I signed the paperwork, I handed the gentleman a $30 tip ($10 for each guy). What he said next amazed me. He declined the tips and explained that I should give the tip to each of them and not the entire amount just to him so there would be no reason to suspect that he took a larger tip than the others. I thanked him for his honesty and integrity and handed each of the workers their tips. I would used Extreme Movers in a HEARTBEAT the next time I need to move and would recommend them to ANYONE who needs help packing and moving. I wish every mover would take some tips from these guys, they're AWESOME!!! Thanks Xavier and everyone else who was a part of the move for helping out a brother in a bind!

Awesome experience. 180 experience from what experience from the " Professiinal " packing company I hired to pack in LA. Could not recommend Carlson more, Top notch and personable to boot. I ordered a 3 person crew but only a 2 man crew showed. Not a problem in that hey we're still done inside 3 hrs. Hustled the whole time. A real pleasure to do business with! Would rebook them in a heartbeat!

The three packers were on time and incredibly prepared. They knocked out our entire main floor, including a full China cabinet, a full kitchen, a huge pantry, and and a large hutch in only two hours. Everything was individually wrapped and there was not a single breakage! If we had done the packing ourselves, it would have taken days. Highly recommended and would definitely use again.

I had these guys come out to help pack and then move me a few days later. It was a blessing to have their help. They showed up with a nice truck with an air-lift and they worked efficiently. I would highly recommend. They even stayed later to help us put some new ready-to-assemble furniture together. They gave me a free on-site estimate and between the packing and moving days, their estimate turned out right on. There are cheaper ways to go (U-haul helpers) but you get what you pay for.

Levon and his team were so amazing! They moved all of our large items (and we had a lot of heavy items) out of our old apartment and into our new one in only 2.5 hours! They even had to lug everything up a flight a stairs when they unloaded, and that includes travel time to our new place. They were extremely efficient and fast moving AND their packing skills were out of this world. I will 100% book him again if we have to move. He was also extremely responsive, if I had to leave a voicemail for him he always got back in a timely manner. Absolutely no complaints and worth every penny! On top of their skills they were extremely friendly, much more personable than a major moving company. Highly recommended!

Fairly solid moving experience. Joe's team isn't the cheapest, but they got me moved with impressive speed and were patient with some confusion I caused around parking. They weren't very careful with my stuff though. Boxes were upended unnecessarily causing some minor damage despite what I felt was reasonably careful packing (I've had a couple moves between sublets this year with basically the same packing job with no damage) and my couch had a little wooden plate broken off it (not the most durable piece of furniture and I didn't break it down as small as it could go, but I offered to break it down further and they declined.) There was also some wall scuffing I had to spackle over from the place I was leaving, though the tricky stairs at the place I was headed into looked great. In all though, for moving cheap stuff quickly with the expectation of a ding here and there 1Stop did the job with great efficiency.

I worked with Edward and his team moving my 3 bed 2 bath house same day. Packing and moving. He and his team were extremely professional and amazingly thorough. Everything was transported to the new home safely. They even put our large items where we wanted them, and made sure everything was working properly. Anything that needed to be disassembled was put back together perfectly. I would highly recommend his team to anyone looking for moving services, packing services, or cleaning services. Very polite, very professional, and all around fun guys to be around.

I used Mojo's Moving Services and I couldn't be happier. They were very professional and nice. The guys who did the move were extremely knowledgeable and capable when it came to handling furniture and navigating the abrupt turns of my stair case up to the third floor! I would highly recommend Mojo's and will definitely use them again in the future.

Everything. His n Her's Movers were the best movers I have ever used and would highly recommend them to everyone needing to move. The wife called before, during, and after to check on everything and make sure all was going well. The husband was on top of everything, even when U-haul didn't have the u-boxes as scheduled, he jumped in and talked with them and helped to make it happen. His moving guys were quick and efficient. They brought their own truck and supplies. All I had to do was point out what needed to go and they handled it all. Top notch!!!

We have moved several times and a few times across country. Our experience with Great Nation Moving was by far the easiest and hassle free experience that we have had with moving. They sent over an appraiser who was able to give us a quote after walking through our house and seeing what we owned and were moving. He was within $50 of our ending price, so it extremely accurate. The pricing was in-line with several other companies that we had quote out the job. Rose, their sales/account manager, was great. We explained that we needed to move from within a specific time frame, and they were able to accommodate to our schedule. We were driving to our new home as soon as the movers were done packing everything up, and they even accommodated a faster pack up by adding an additional member to the crew packing up our belongings. They delivered our items in less than a week, which was much faster than our past experiences. Rose kept me posted on the progress of everything throughout the process and seemed to be working 24 hrs a day to make sure we were comfortable and in the know of what was going on. She even called within 30 minutes of the delivery of our items to see how everything went. We did have some slight damage on one item, which we were not bothered with as the item was beat up from a previous move. Without us filing a complaint, Rose was able to get us a check to cover the damages. Overall it was some of the best customer service I have experienced. Its always a headache and there is always the hidden issues that pop up along the way, however, I felt Rose kept us in the know and ahead of the curve with the move. That goes a long way when you have literally everything you own in their hands.

I hired Sun City Muscle Movers on 8/1/2017. They were great to work with. Houston which is the owner was actually on the move along with another guy named Daniel. I couldn't believe that the owner was actually at my house assisting with my move. I told him that was very rare. I moved a couple times in the last past years and the owners I dealt with wouldn't give a hand or two nor come out and assist with my previous moves. He knew what he was doing when it came to packing up my house. My husband and I were very happy during and after the move was completed. Thank you, Sun City Muscle Movers. Keep up the great work!

My movers just left and requested a review as quickly as possible. I assured them that I would provide then with a 10 out of 5 star rating. Most importantly, the young men were respectful to my husband and I. I am 67 years old so I was on the young men from start to finish - making sure they were respectful of my belongings and home. They wrapped all of my furniture and assisting with packing items that were not packed upon their arrival. I did notice a small hole in the wall at the pick up address. Tight corners so I did not complain. But I did want them to know that I noticed. Other than that, my belongings arrived in great shape. I will recommend to my friend Margaret who will be moving in about 2 weeks. I informed her to request Mark and Stephen. Thanks again for your hard work. Spend your tip wisely.

The movers at AmerApex Moving could not have done a better job moving our belongings over 2,000 miles away. The crew was on time, polite, very careful, and kept the move fun and in good spirits. Nothing was damaged and the price did not budge a penny. Thank you again for making my move across country stress free. I will be recommending AmerApex Moving to all my friends and family!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
