Richard rescued our project after our original contractor was unable to complete the fence installation after many weeks. Richard was a first-rate professional who took a situation that, frankly, appeared beyond resolution and delivered a repaired and finished product, in the time promised, that looks terrific and provides all the privacy we had sought. We would definitely hire him again!

Luis and his crew did a great job on our landscaping. They removed old bushes, trees, and weeds and laid beautiful new sod and river rock, installed sprinklers, and built a retaining wall planter around our tree. It looks fabulous and they got the work done quick and professionally. You can really tell they know what they are doing. Luis was always very responsive and available to talk through any concerns that came up along the way. After the project was complete, a few minor issues/concerns popped up and he was true to his word and came back out to fix what was needed. We would definitely recommend J&G Landscape Services LLC for any of your landscaping needs!

My residence in Aurora, CO was in dire need of a fence replacement. My privacy fence running alongside the alley was literally getting ready to fall down. In the past, I have had questionable contractors and over the years have learned to do extensive research on them before they are hired. Working in Emergency Medical Services and being a full time student, I also have a very limited income. From the very first phone call with Rodney of LLG to the end project, I was met with nothing but professionalism and was given a high quality fence that I am extremely happy about. The crew was professional and worked incredibly well together. Though my project was labor intensive, their skills made this project look effortless and there weren't any complications. Rodney and his crew were prompt in their arrival for my fence installation and did a really awesome job in cleaning up after they were done. Huge and sincere thanks to RWG for excellent professionalism, meeting my budget, giving me a new privacy fence that increases my property's value, hauling away my old fence and for being so prompt in every aspect of this project.

Hayden did a great job on our fence and built it quickly right after he did our bid. He was one of the few contractors who even gave us a bid.

Albelardo came to my home to replace two fence posts and reinstall the existing fence. The fence posts were installed correctly and to my surprise he used screws instead of nails. Something I was hoping he would do. I have noticed only one thing though: The fence posts did not look like they were pressure treated to resist rot when in contact with soil. Most people would not notice, and I find no real fault because he did such a great job in installation. The fence posts will last for several years, and I will rehire him because there is other fencing I am thinking about having done. I just need to get the money.

O'Shay responded quickly to our request for a fence repair. He came the following day to review the damage (which was extensive). He was able to return with supplies and make the repairs within a couple of days. His work was fabulous and the cost was more than fair for the work required. He also made the repairs in inclement weather. Most other businesses would have rescheduled on a day in the 30's and snowing! I highly recommend his services!

Lyons Fence was great to work with. My husband and I had Over 6 fencing companies come out and give us estimates on our fence for our backyard. We have a pretty big backyard and an original fence that has been there since 1961. There was also a lot of shrubs and trees that the fence companies would have to work around also. We had estimates that were way over then what my husband and I could afford. When Steve from Lyons Fence came out he explained in detail the type of wood they would use as well as the type of concrete they would use. He went over throughly with my husband how he would nail in the pickets the type of post and how he would install the gates. He even said he would do the trim on the top of the fence to make it have a good clean finish as well as cut out the shrubs and trees and dispose of them for us. Steve also would provide arches for our gates. We even asked Steve to come out a second time to go over what we discussed the first time for our fence and he showed up and again went over every detail word by word. My husband and I decided to go with Steve and he scheduled us in that following Monday and completed the job in four days. We walked around the fence looked at every detail that Steve and his sons did and was completely satisfied with the work they had done. The gates with the arches were absolutely beautiful and the lining of the fence posts were in perfect straight lines. Steve was right when he told us in the beginnign that he would be the lowest in price but also the best in craftmanship of fence installation. My husband and I truly agree that if we had gone with any other fence company besides Lyons Fence the workmanship and quality of fence would not have been better then the fence that Lyons Fence company installed for us. We recommend Lyons Fence LLC and hope anyone who is looking to get a fence installed will definitely contact them. You won’t regret it. Out of all the fence companies we spoke to, Lyons Fence, LLC was the only company that went above and beyond our expectations to ensure our full satisfaction. Thank you Lyons Fence LLC you did a Great job for us.

Clint was amazing! We had a pretty time-consuming job (filling in loft holes in a bedroom/bathroom wall: involving sheetrock, 2x4's, putty, the works) and he had to come over three trips to get the work completed. He's incredibly responsive, punctual, and flexible, and he ensures his work is satisfactory and covers all bases. Would not hesitate to hire him again.

I had Silas do many projects around my house. He built a backyard shed, painted the exterior of my house, and installed a screen door. He did excellent work, and I would highly recommend him. I totally trusted him to work in my home while I wasn’t there. M. Keating, Bozeman, MT

Andujo showed up on time and had a very fair quote. The project was actually less complicated (and therefor cheaper) than I anticipated. I hired him on the spot and he completed the fence repair immediately. I would hire him again for a fence repair.

I hired Dynacorp to replace a damaged wooden fence. Jeff did a great job removing the old fence, installing the new fence and hauling off the debris from the old fence. The new fence looks very good.

The job Dana did on my front door was superb! The job was fairly more complicated than a standard install but Dana and Shannon were wonderful to work with and able to deal with the complications! I will definitely hire them again on future projects.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
