I spoke with Aaron on the phone and explained that we just needed some minor handyman work done. He said he had someone on his crew who could handle small jobs like ours at an hourly rate. I said great—send him over, and I’ll walk him through what we need so we can get a quote. The guy showed up, and I walked him through the tasks. It quickly became clear he wasn’t very comfortable with the work and wasn’t sure how to do some of it. After talking with him a bit more, I found out he was actually a general contractor, and these smaller fix-it projects weren’t really his specialty—though he said he could still do them. In my experience, when someone says something isn’t really their thing but they’re “happy to do it anyway,” that usually doesn’t end well. So I politely decided not to move forward, and we parted ways. Not long after, I got a phone call from Aaron—completely irate, yelling about how the guy was supposed to start work that day and how much money he was now losing. I was totally confused—we both acknowledged this wasn’t the right fit, so I didn’t understand why I was being berated. Aaron kept screaming, told me to f-off, and hung up on me.
