My son needed professional video done a day before the deadline. Jeff not only made a high quality professional video but also did it well before the deadline. He also went out of his way to add captions to the video and added a sound track for disabled. Jeff also made customized change for us several time with fast turn around time. All those for a very competitive price. We are thrilled by his professionalism and his efficiency. We would not hesitate to ask them help again next time.

I had big ideas but totally overwhelmed with how to execute them. Tom Davis came in, took away the fear and created exactly what I had been visualizing. Tom is a versatile Videographer that’s exceptionally well organized. Not only does he help in determining the best way to enhance your product service, he lays out the order of shots so you don’t have to repeat locations. One of the things I really liked is that he writes the script and inserts sound-effects for the Video that totally captures the image you want to project. It is fun to get on my website to hear the up-beat music. The on-site Video can also be turned off anytime you desire. Thanks Tom.

We could not be happier with the video Guillermo created for us. He was great to work with and was able to incorporate all of our requests and edits easily and quickly. We hired him from out-of-state, and he did an amazing job considering we corresponded solely through email and phone for the video. The end result was exactly what we were hoping for and tells our story perfectly. Thank you, Guillermo!

Jeff was outstanding to work with in every way. I called him for professional video services for a research project based on his reviews. I have been so glad I did! He always responded immediately to all messages and questions. He provided much-needed guidance and expertise in all aspects of the process. And, the turnaround time was faster than I ever would have expected. You can't go wrong in working with Jeff.

Colin recorded my three children for competition audition tapes and did a truly excellent job. He was available at the last minute and was very reasonably priced. The recordings he made were of excellent quality. Patient and supportive, he went the extra mile to upload the kids audio/video files to the competition, allowing us to make the deadline by just a few hours. I would recommend him to anyone without reservation.

It has been a great experience working with Britt Jones. He has created 4 or 5 fundraising videos for us. In each video Britt has captured the heart of our mission and the people we serve. He is so good to work with - he completely understands what we want the finished product to be. He is professional, on time, and works very hard to get just the right shots. I would highly recommend him.

I hired Jose to travel out of state and film my music video in South Beach, Miami. When he arrived, he was timely and concerned about project details. He was flexible and willing to shoot without a fundamental storyboard as if he had devised one along the way. Jose is dedicated to each project like it is his, he's a true visionary who is attentive to details. I would recommend him to any artist, small or large or budget.

Josh and Levi were really responsive, fun, and easy to work with. They did a great job and have a really cool style. Looking back the only thing we would have requested is some more direction when posing for photos. Specifically in many of the photos some people were smiling and others not, or maybe a button undone etc. We recommend discussing needs and expectations beforehand to make sure everyone’s on the same page and you get exactly what you want. The video was awesome! We love that they let us choose the song. We appreciated getting a few of the photos right away to share with family and friends while the rest were being edited. Overall our experience was good and Ivywild has a great value.

Working with Ross and Annette at Emerald Fox Productions was a fantastic experience from start to finish. From our initial bid/meeting to the delivery of our final photos and video shoot, they were professional, friendly and went above and beyond our expectations. Our band hired them to film our concert at the Dickens Opera House and take photos of the performance as well. They edited shots from multi camera videos for four songs and a compilation highlight video of our performance. The color, camera angles and editing were perfect and in addition the audio quality was superior. I recommend any band, or artist who wants to have a high quality and professional video shoot should consider Emerald Fox productions first!

I have worked with Jonathan on a number of projects - from high end commercial and advertising work to smaller personal projects - and have always been so happy with the results. Jonathan is a true partner, he would listen to my needs and then layer on ways to make it even better. He always came in on budget and on time, no matter what money or time restrictions we had to follow. He's fun to work with and has a network of partners if there is ever something he can't do (which I haven't found yet!). I highly recommend him for anyone looking for a video or photography partner.

Kevin Hu of Space Cadet (in association with Moonshine Media Group) were tasked and hired to shoot my record label's very first professional music video of the Louis Armstrong classic "What a Wonderful World", featuring Thomas J. Dawson Jr. of the legendary Commodores at The Gold Room in downtown Colorado Springs, CO. From initial contact and video inception to end credits, Kevin made the process smooth, kept necesssary communication constant and super exceeded all of our expectations. We released our video on Facebook to friends and family and got 1k views the first day which was sweet. However the real honor were the comments and reactions left on our pages. Over half of the comments were in regards to the quality of the video and it's classic black and white touch. I'll quote two of the viewers: "Topnotch video!" (Ivan Griffin, Professional Classical Singer and Recording Artist, New Orleans, LA) "I love the black and white. I need to make one that good." (George Sisneros, Colorado's Premiere Entertainer, Colorado Springs, CO.) Kevin and Space Cadet (in association with Moonshine Media Group) I highly recommend for any and every one of your high-end film projects. I would use them again and again and again! Here's the video if you'd like to check out for yourself: https://youtu.be/uDYZxMv6hlc Thanks again Kevin and crew for a fantastic shoot, service and product. I pray for your continued success. Wade and I collaborated on his award winning documentary, Marvin Booker Was Murdered, about a wrongful death in Denver. Wade's passion and drive to see a feature length film though the filmmaking process (from conception, through production, through editing, and release through festivals and community screenings) cannot be understated. The film has sparked meaningful conversation about violence from law enforcement, and it has even initiated positive steps toward reform from the City of Denver administration. Without Wade's hard work, focus, and leadership, the story of Marvin Booker would not have been told. On commercial projects that Wade has taken on, he is very personable and collaborative. He listens and communicates effectively to pull off the client's vision while appropriately adding his own input. In his careful editing, Wade avoids the cookie cutter cliches of video promos and makes the work stand out as an honest documentary film, instead of a forced, corporate ad. Wade is a great choice for video production and editing projects in Colorado.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
