I hired Christopher to edit my manuscript. He found all the standard gramactical errors that are expeceted from any compentent editor. The part that sets him apart from other editors is that he takes the time to explain my errors to me and truly seems to make an effort to make me a better writer. Many editors get so wrapped up in what is wrong with a manuscript, they often lose focus on the story. Christopher does not. He shows actual interest in the words and offers his thoughts and suggestions on the plot and storyline. I feel he is an asset to any writer, and you can feel confident that he will make your words better. He is a tough taskmaster, but I know he's on my team. I consider myself fortunate to have found him and you will too.

We worked with the PBC girls for a website design for a HVAC company. What they provided us was a clean, user friendly, modern website that fit the needs of the employees and website guests. They looked into any questions we had and quickly found creative solutions. We would definitely recommend Becca and Jenna and look forward to partnering again in the near future.

Nicole is a highly skilled tutor. She instinctively knows how best to support a student and guides her teaching content according to what will best strengthen a student's weaknesses in order to achieve the best outcomes. Additionally, she is very adept at sensing how best to engage with her students. Our family has experienced great success as a result of her tutoring. She has become not only a valued mentor to my daughter but also a great friend to our family. I highly recommend Nicole.

Finding someone to do my web site was kind of hit and miss. I received three or four quotes and chose the mid-range quote, which as Jicelyn. Trouble was, she is in Aurora and I’m way southwest, so we met halfway. First impressions count. She is not only a very attractive young woman, but very professional. Within a half hour she had mapped out a proposal for a design. Within 3 or 4 days she sent me a draft of my site. Eye-popping gorgeous. We worked through a few changes, then she finished. I asked some other writers to review it and received nothing but positive feedback, “Very attractive”, “professional” among others. Check it out for yourself, demorley.com.

Mr. Write is a phenomenal writer and editor. He took the time to make sure he had the clarity he needed to execute my project successfully, always asking smart questions. Mr. Write is not satisfied until his client is satisfied, and due to his subject-matter expertise, quality work, and attention to detail, I imagine he must have many satisfied clients - alongside this one.

Jody is a great tutor. She helped my son with his reading, spelling, writing, and math. My son's teacher suggested Jody and her tutoring services. His teacher said Jody was excellent at filling in the missing pieces for our son. The reading intervention program Jody used helped improve our son's grades by helping him find certain letter sounds and how to say them. Jody taught him over 25 spelling rules that he still uses. Vocabulary was another important subject she helped our son with. Jody later helped our son become a better writer by showing him how to write sentences, paragraphs, and reports. Math was the other subject our son needed help with. The level Jody put him in was comfortable and he knew the steps. The steps to the math became harder but Jody took time to explain the steps so my son understood it. Call Jody to help you! She is friendly, patient, smart, and easy to talk to.

Michael is currently editing my lastest book in preparation for its release, as well as planning a detailed strategy to maximize its visibility and success. I cannot be more delighted by his professionalism, his insightfulness and pleasant attitude. He is a true marketing expert. The content of the book is mine but its success will belong to Michael. I hope this is the first of many, many collaborations in the future.

Over the years, we have retained Savan Associates to edit and rewrite numerous projects published on the Internet and in various publications. As legal and financial researchers, we constantly are having to publish research to assist our clients and to structure that research in various formats, ranging from technical synopses to articles geared toward laypersons. I have used less expensive, but never better than Savan Associates. Arden M. Gray, CEO The Advisors Group Denver, Colorado

Julian has been helping us with writing content for our corporate blog. Based on a topic, Julian researched and wrote up the blog that succinctly presented the goals of the blog. It was well received and has become a template for all our future blog posts. He does his research, compiles the talking points and articulates them very well in the blog. I like his style

    About

**Send me a page or two or your work. I'll edit it for free. That's the best way to pick your writer/editor -- see firsthand what they do and how they do it.** I provide writing, editing, and writing instruction services to businesses, universities, government agencies, and non-profits nationwide. I’ve done work for dozens of marketing firms, Unisys Corporation, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Air Force, CH2M HILL, Prentice Hall, LexisNexis, HP, Webroot, VMware, and Adobe, and I’ve written and edited corporate, government, technical, and marketing documentation throughout my career. Let’s just say my work has run the gamut. Back in the day, I developed and taught a course in technical writing for Pentagon personnel. I also spent three years teaching courses in academic writing, public speaking, and literature to students at the University of Virginia and three years teaching writing at the University of Colorado, Boulder. I earned a Master of Arts degree in English Literature, Language, and Research from the University of Virginia. My GRE Verbal test score is in the 99th percentile. Why share a GRE score? Because it assesses ability in language usage, grammar, and punctuation. I know my stuff. I live in the grand and gorgeous state of Colorado, and in my free time I work on my novel, travel extensively in the US (47 states and counting), travel as much as possible around the world, and bike around Denver on one of my fabulous cruisers. Unless my bikes have been stolen. They’re stolen a lot.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

    • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
    • Strong writing skills.
    • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
    • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
    • Expertise in your target area.
    • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

    • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
    • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
