I started taking guitar lessons from Sandi Mascola when I was entering my freshman year of high school in 2004. I had zero musical experience beforehand but was interested, and she was one my best friend's aunts and I had heard great things. I fell in love with music, her teaching style, and the way I would leave each lesson learning something new. I ended up taking lessons for about 4 years, and I can honestly say Sandi taught me everything I knew about guitar, as well as life lessons along the way. I haven't taken a lesson since 2008, and still to this day refer to her as my aunt. She was an amazing mentor and role model and helped me grow as a guitar player and person. I don't have a bad word to say about her teaching style, and can truthfully say that it was the best money I've ever spent!(show more)

I first met John when my son started taking guitar lessons with him. Sitting in on my sons lessons I was incredibly impressed with not just Johns knowledge of music and theory but his gift of teaching. I, myself, was a self-taught guitarist whose knowledge of chords, theory and technique was severely limited. I had taken lessons with a few instructors in the past to try and gain a better understanding and become a more confident and competent player but could never quite connect. In the short time I have been taking lessons with John I have made great improvements. His ability to clearly explain and make sense of each lesson has allowed me to make the necessary connections, filling in my gaps of knowledge, and allowing me to make great progress in every facet of the guitar from chords and theory to picking and strumming techniques. John is incredibly talented as both a musician and a teacher. I would recommend him to anyone looking to bring their playing to a higher level.(show more)
My daughter has been taking guitar lessons with Mike for the past eight years. The valuable lessons she has learned from Mike while learning to play guitar were applicable to playing violin for her school. Learning how to practice, reading and writing music, playing a song by ear, understanding difficult rhythms, and being exposed to a variety of genres are just a few examples of the valuable lessons she learned over the years. Mike also recorded her playing her grandfather's favorite song so she could give it to him as a gift. My daughter has learned to love music and we have Mike to thank for that. I have also had the pleasure of learning how to play guitar through Mike. We both feel our time with Mike is always well spent.(show more)

I have seen kids from 7 years to 40+ years coming to him to learn Guitar :-) He sends out personalized video for kids for those who make good use of it, he gives hand outs and ensure that kids are excited enough to practice. He encouraged my son to write his own song and promised him to record one for him! Steve is one of the best in the region! His lessons on pantatonic skills, making students pick up any song of their choice and work on them is a good way to excite kids into playing Guitar and have them practice home! Bio: Born into a musical family, Chad Wade studied piano as a child and purchased his first guitar at age 14. He studied the electric guitar with Greg Nipp and played in several bands throughout high school and college. He later earned a bachelor of arts degree in music from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where he studied classical guitar under Cuban master, Mario Abril. Chad has performed at a variety of venues over the years, from intimate weddings to large benefit concerts (the largest being 7,000). He has taught both private and group lessons to different ages and skill levels for over seven years. He has been certified as a TakeLessons and Taylor Robinson Music instructor. Chad now serves as music pastor for Encounter Church in Darien, CT. Lesson content: I mainly teach the finger style technique and repertoire of classical guitar. This technique can be applied to different kinds of guitars (steel string acoustic, electric, etc.) and can serve as an excellent foundation to other musical styles (jazz, blues, country, rock, etc.), but can only be effectively learned on a true classical guitar. Beginning students will be guided through First Lessons for Guitar: Volume 1 by Julio S. Sagreras (which I will provide for $5). Students will also acquire the classic etudes of Sor, Carcassi, Villa-Lobos and Brouwer, later exploring the rich diversity of classical guitar repertoire from the renaissance, baroque, romantic, and modern eras. If you're interested in learning other styles, we can agree on a personalized track to learning what you'd like to learn. The first lesson is free: I offer this incentive because I want to assure the student/parent that we are going to work well together. This first lesson is a great opportunity to establish goals, answer any question, and clearly communicate what the student should expect from my guitar lessons. Parents are welcome to sit in on this relational discussion, as well as any other lesson, as long as they are not a distraction to the student. Performances: I also regularly perform at various events. The unique sound of plucked nylon strings elicits a pleasant, formal mood while remaining conducive for conversation. The guitar is most suitable for smaller, intimate venues, but amplification can be used for larger venues. My most requested pieces include Pachelbel's "Canon in D," Mendelsohn's "Wedding March," and Wagner's "Bridal Chorus", but most guitar music from the renaissance, baroque, romantic, and modern eras are often appropriate for any venue. Additionally, the guitar is versatile enough to play music composed for other instruments, so the possibilities are endless.(show more)
What do you love about your job?
Music is life, and life is music. I love my job because I have the privilege of teaching something that is so dear to my heart. My students are the best. They are ambitious, driven, patient, creative, artistic and passionate about music. There is no greater reward than seeing the progress a student has made. I truly feel so content with what I do everyday.
What or who inspired you to start your own business?
In my opinion, whatever you desire, the chances are others will, too. If you are passionate about that, then you have all the inspiration that you need to make it into a thriving business. I took piano lessons since I was four years old and became formally educated with a Bachelors in Music and a Masters in Musicology, and I always knew I wanted to use my talent to teach others. I always loved my weekly piano lessons. My practices became recitals, and I wanted to share this passion with music students no matter what age or path they're on!
