Seeing Dr. Fekete has been nothing short of transformative. I came in thinking my weight issues were all about will power and feared a therapist would either judge me harshly or conversely, dismiss my responsibility entirely (there, there, overeating is not your fault). But, I found Dr. Fekete's personality so warm and friendly... so approachable, that my concerns just evaporated. Instead of judging me, she opened up a safe space for me to see how I judged and defeated myself. And, instead of pandering to my sense of hopelessness, she helped me formulate concrete steps with realistic and sustainable goals. Actually, her support allowed me formulate my own plan, giving me full ownership of the process. I'm now able to notice and let go of the inner turmoil experienced every time I'd sit down for a meal (or remain standing and eat fast so it wouldn't count). This experience has been so empowering!!! I came for help with weight loss but came away with so much more. Being treated like an adult in a safe and judgement-free environment has helped me feel like a competent adult rather than a helpless child. I'm also eating better and losing weight... slow and steady.

Alison has a very unique approach to hypnosis. Her technique goes beyond the traditional and allows the client to be an active participant in the healing process. Using modalities that are both energy-centric, i.e. tapping, and visually stimulating, she is able to reduce the pain point and provide triggers that can be successfully employed long after the session is complete. I highly recommend Alison if you are looking to improve a particular situation or if you would like to improve your emotional well-being.

I recently began hypnotherapy for weight loss with Fern at Healing Hypnosis. I was the heaviest ever and not successful with managing weight loss on my own any longer. If you have a bad habit you want to break, you want to advance in your life/career or want to build confidence, Omar has the experience to help you achieve those goals. I wanted to build confidence and increase productivity for my life and my career. In just the first session, he was able to guide me to the blockers that were buried deep within my subconscious... remove them by bringing them to the surface and dealing with them head on. In my first visit with Gene, he helped me unlock many mental blocks I was experiencing with my weight loss issues. I especially liked how he was able to custom tailor his method knowing my background and able to speak to me in a way that I was able to relate to. This significantly helped me understand myself better and remember the principles and suggestions in our session. In less then an hour I felt like a weight lifted off my mind and shift in my consciousness. When I left his office I had a felt an internal shift inside and was able to see more clearly of what was causing me to over eat. With this new found vision and change of feelings inside, I was able to make more conscious and intelligent choices. He had explained to me when done with his sessions I would eat what I wanted, when I wanted, and how much I wanted. Eric is incredible! I first went to see him for weight loss. After the first session I definitely felt a difference but it was only later that I realized I wasn't snacking like I used to. I just wasn't thinking about food. And, just naturally was eating smaller portions. Later, I went back to him for both motivation and confidence. I always felt that no matter what the issue, Eric had a clear plan forward, and knew how I was thinking and what I should focus on in order to get to where I wanted to be. Highly recommend.

      How does hypnosis work?

      Hypnosis is a wellness technique that works by promoting positive behavioral or cognitive changes. During successful hypnosis, the client should be eased into a state of deep relaxation in which the conscious mind takes a back seat and the subconscious mind becomes more active. The client is often able to let go of critical thoughts and become receptive to the therapist’s suggestions. In this state of hypnosis, motivating suggestions can bypass your usual mental resistance and internal defense mechanisms. For example, even if you want to quit overeating cupcakes, you may have some level of resistance that your rational mind can’t overcome. During hypnosis, the positive suggestions made by the hypnotherapist can bypass your usual blocks, helping you to achieve the formerly unachievable: stopping overeating, quitting smoking, mastering public speaking, or losing your fear of heights. The goal of hypnosis is to strengthen and empower the client’s motivation, commitment and focus. Consider working with someone who is not just trained in hypnosis but also is a licensed therapist or psychotherapist who can bring their academic background into your session.

      What can hypnosis help you with?

      According to many sources including the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) which is part of the United States National Library of Medicine and a branch of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), hypnosis is scientifically proven to help relieve both mental challenges and physical pains. Hypnosis can alleviate stress and reduce pain after surgeries, has been shown to relieve anxiety in children in the emergency room, and can be useful for managing pain associated with everything from arthritis to migraines. Hypnosis is non-invasive and gives you a way to control pain or discomfort that might otherwise seem out of your hands.       How is hypnosis used in therapy?

      Hypnosis is a powerful tool to help clients overcome challenging issues such as anxiety, phobias, pain management, hot flashes and more. Hypnosis is also a way to help let go of addictions like smoking, overeating and gambling. In and of itself, hypnosis is not a therapy, but it can be used in conjunction with therapy to empower and encourage the person receiving it to make positive change. Some people are more susceptible to hypnosis and will benefit more from hypnotherapy than others.

      According to Dr. Clifford N. Lazarus, speaking for Psychology Today, hypnosis is a “genuine psychological phenomenon that has valid uses in clinical practice … hypnosis is a state of highly focused attention or concentration, often associated with relaxation, and heightened suggestibility. While under hypnosis (i.e., in a hypnotic trance), it seems many people are much more open to helpful suggestions than they usually are.” The suggestions made in a therapeutic setting get deep into a person’s brain, beyond their conscious thinking, leading to behavior change and the ability to overcome challenges that might otherwise seem insurmountable.

      What is the effectiveness of hypnosis?

      The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services recognizes the healing power of hypnosis and its proven effectiveness for anxiety, pain control, smoking cessation, headaches and more. Hypnosis may be safe and complementary way to augment medical attention you are receiving for a chronic illness or pain, or a way to resolve an addiction or phobia that you are otherwise unable to control. Hypnosis does not work on every person. When scientists began studying hypnosis in earnest, a report published by Stanford University titled “The Stanford Hypnotic Susceptibility Scale” demonstrated that different brains respond to hypnosis in varying degrees, and a very few do not respond at all. Working with a trained psychologist, you’ll soon determine whether you are a good candidate for the healing benefits of hypnotherapy.

      During a hypnotherapy session, the therapist will bring you into a state of deep relaxation in which the critical, conscious part of your brain recedes and the subconscious mind becomes alert and focused. The therapist will make suggestions, based on your intended goals, that will take root in your subconscious mind. These suggestions should affect your thinking in a positive way and empower you to make change.
