My upstairs bathroom's shower plumbing had let go and soaked the downstairs. I had taken down the sheetrock and cut all the old piping out (copper and PVC) I had repiped the PVC myself, however, I had never worked with copper. I called Harry in to repipe the upstairs shower and install shut-off values and the shower mixing valve. While my old house gave him a good fight (tight spaces, hard to reach for soldering) He did a great job and everything is working perfectly. Will use again, We are already talking about the next project!

I had Afonso come over gave me a good quote on the roof. Within few days him and his guys started to put down new roof the roof was leaking bad due to previous roof had Damaged most of sheed rock and my sky lights. Ever since since new roof havent had any leaks so far in contract we had to repair the skylights with flashing but they requested new skylights I went and bought new skylights due to extensive damage they put the skylights down at no cost due to contract and had all replaced gutters and put new copper on chimney which where on contract. Over all they did good job only suggestion I have is make sure for future they run the magnet for nails I had to plug my car tire three times due to screws and nails. Other than that roof hasn't had any leaks yet.

I chose Henry Guzman and CT Masonry & Waterproofing to replace my roof because he came in with a very good price (lowest out of the 3 estimates) but for most important to me are the excellent reviews I read about the company. I was not disappointed. Henry and his crew arrived at my residence at the scheduled time and finished the same day. His crew did an excellent job on my roof. They were very polite, answered all my questions and did a very thorough clean up of the property. It was a pleasure to work with Henry and I would highly recommend CTM&W.

This was my first experience working with Thumbtack and For U Builders. I have a small house, and in the past, many contractors have simply not returned my calls because the job was considered "too small to bother." For U Builders installed 2 new custom exterior doors on my home. From the very beginning, Brandon (scheduling) and John (owner) were very communicative -- we had to schedule around the door delivery, and they were able to fit in my project as soon as the last door arrived. Stephen (Carpenter) is amazing! He made it look so easy and was attentive to every detail -- my house was built in the 1930s, so adjustments were necessary to make everything fit. When the job was finished, there wasn't a trace of dust or debris anywhere! I am very, very happy with the results, and will definitely work with For U Builders in the future. The entire team are professional, friendly, efficient and a joy to work with! Thank you!

After receiving three appraisals for a roof replacement Squire Roofing, Andrew (Drew) Oehler, owner, got back to me within a few days. His appraisal was in the ballpark and I had (word of mouth) heard that his company was very reputable. I rent this house and worked with Tracy Tomaselli, owner, to select a roofer. We agreed on Drew. Once the deposit was made Drew came by to say that a dumpster would be delivered that morning. And that materials would also be delivered by noon that same day. Both were delivered that same morning. Drew also explained that his crew would be starting at 8:00 am Saturday and work two days to complete the job. He questioned if 8:00 am was too early. (it wasn't) At exactly 8:00 am the crew showed up. I went out to introduce myself to the foreman which I found was very polite, knowledgeable, and personable. I spoke to him during the day to ask if there were any problems (ex: plywood warped, any rotting etc), there was nothing but the replacement of the entire roof, no issues or concerns. The first day they finished one side and said they'd be back the next. Unfortunately, it rained on Sunday, but Monday at 8:00 am the crew was back and proceeded to complete the job, (the entire roof, the flashing to the chimney and a small roof over the kitchen addition.) During these two days Drew visited and spoke to the foreman and also stopped in the ask me if everything was okay? I had absolutely no concerns. At the finish of the job the crew cleaned up the entire yard like it had never happened!! Immaculate! I couldn't find a nail or any part of any of the tiles. Drew was very on top of his crew and my concerns (which there weren't any). I would give this contractor a 10 or A+ and highly recommend him to anyone. Sincerely, Linda L. Joe, first of all thank you! My family and I are very thankful we found you. I am sure we will talk again in the near future. Martelle Builders are nothing short of professional, responsible, but most of all AMAZING at what they do. I have built a few houses and I have had my share of terrible contractors but Martelle Builders by far exceeded all expectations. There are contractors that will just go into a job and just do it, and then there is Martelle Builders, who treats his job as these houses were of his own. It is more than just the money for these guys. Oh, and did I mention they framed my new construction mid-winter?? Do NOT hesitate to hire MB... I am very glad I didn't.

I'm so glad I met Wendell he was outstanding and most of all honest which I have noticed is hard to find when hiring contractors, plumbers etc... I had a plumbing issue since I bought my home and I was dreading looking for someone to fix it.. I'm so glad thumbtack got me in contact with bcs. Wendell was here 30 minutes after I called him, he went through everything with me. He answered my barrage of questions patiently and got to work and fixed the issue I've been dealing with for 3 months in no time. I would recommend him a thousand times over and I will be using his services for my other projects.

Tony from Above n' Beyond did a great job with my project. Originally we thought there might be a leak in the roof, but afer inspection, it turned out to be a problem with some gable vents and rotting wood. Tony replaced all 3 vents and had to reinstall wood siding to finish it off. The work was excellent, I wasn't sold anything I didn't need, there was great communication on every aspect of the job, and the price was very reasonable. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Above n' Beyond again, and would recommend them to anyone with roofing/repair issues.

Fantastic job lads! These guys saved my porch after another contractor came in and did a shotty job. They ripped out all his old work and replaced all the dry wall and even part of the roof. Even though they had to rip out all the old work they still did it in half the time it took the other guys to do the whole job. These Men are great!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
