Marty has completed several projects for us in the past six years. Every one was expertly completed, on time, according to specifications. Marty's prices are very reasonable, his estimates accurate, and his workmanship excellent. He is exceptionally versatile. He can tackle almost anything, from carpentry to masonry, floor laying to plumbing, electrical to painting and pressure washing. Projects completed for us include the conversation of two bedrooms into a studio with kitchen, with a new vinyl floor and the addition of an outside/entry door; replace an existing single basin vanity with a two basin vanity, and new vinyl floor; remodeling our laundry room; pressure washing and painting the house exterior. Marty is an excellent, reliable and affordable all-rounder with a pleasant personality. We will request his services for any future project we might have. We recommend him highly. He is a jewel!

I would highly recommend Fratturo Home Remodeling. Brian repaired my deck and did some interior drywall work. I found him to be extremely professional and considerate of my home. His attention to detail and communication were both excellent.

Rome and his guys were great. We originally planned on only doing a couple things, and after seeing the quality of the work on stair repair and popcorn removal, we also had hardwood flooring installed, drywall replaced and tiling done. The work Johnny, Reuben, Jesus and the other guys did was beautiful and the prices Rome gave us were very reasonable. I would recommend him and his guys to anyone looking to get professional quality work done to their home.

When I contacted Square Feet Contracting, my contractor of 8 years had just walked out on me leaving my old kitchen floor ripped and the sub-floor only partially redone. This was the weekend before Thanksgiving and the kitchen installers were coming to install the kitchen at the end of the week after. This means that we had about a week (Thanksgiving included) to finish preparing the sub-floor, tiling, and grouting before installing the kitchen cabinets and appliances. I contacted Square Feet Contracting over the weekend and Paolo was at my house on Monday morning. He saw the project, took his measurements, and gave me a quote and a contract on the spot. Being that he could get started on it pretty much immediately, I signed right away. Paolo came with his co-worker Roberto always on time and in good spirits. This was a complicated tiling job because of the amount of obstacles, corners, closets, laundry closet, and little nooks that required a lot of patience and tile cutting. On top of this, part of the kitchen was an addition done many years ago and the floor wasn't exactly level. Paolo suggested changing the pattern of the tile in that part of the kitchen and that turned out to be an excellent suggestion. Not only was the unleveled floor issue solved, but the change of pattern looked aesthetically beautiful. He also suggested that we use the same tile to add a baseboard (battiscopa, as Paolo would say in Italian), and that was another excellent idea. Our floor looks incredibly beautiful. I definitely deserve some credit for picking such a gorgeous tile (lol), but Paolo and his crew truly did an amazing job in a timely manner (not rushing, but never stopping) and for a reasonable price. Since then he has also done my foyer. There are just two steps that go from the foyer to the house and the way he blended the kitchen tile on the horizontal part of the steps and the foyer tile on the vertical part of the steps is really remarkable. Paolo takes pride on his work and that shines through in the final result. I have so much respect for that. Now I want him to do my back-splash (as soon as kitchen counter-tops are installed), and then we'll move onto the two bathrooms. I give Square Feet Contracting five big fat stars without hesitation and I strongly recommend them to everyone.

I had a bathroom from the 1970's complete with a blue tab and tile. All the tiles along the tub were falling out and leaking. I called Bathfitters, and they wanted an exorbinate amount to fix it. Tony came out and gave me some fantastic ideas. First of all, he suggested we retain the blue tub, which I wanted to do, and which makes the bathroom unique. Then he suggested a bring in a neutral wall tile, BUT add aborder of blue tile that would match the bathtub and bring the room together. He also quoted me for a new floor, painting the wall, installing a new toilet, and moving and reinstalling a heavy cabinet. He work was impeccable. He was always on time. He price was unbelievably less than Bathfitters to do all the work. He also did extra work, like personally refinishing some work along the border of the shower. He went out of his way to do an amazing job. I would highly recommend him for his attention to detail, creativity, and willingness to work with the client.

I have an 80's condo that needs a full remodel and wasn't sure where to start. Mark was recommended to me by a coworker. He came in, looked the place over, discussed my must haves and my wish list and gave me an estimate on the first project. Starting on the main level he removed a partition wall to open my kitchen. Then he removed the popcorn finish on my cathedral ceiling, refinished and painted it. I was very happy with the results so I had him continue with my list. I work a lot so I gave him a key. He comes and goes as he needs to and I have no worries. He installed my bamboo floors on a diagional because it's the design I wanted. When I couldn't get trim to match he took flooring to his shop and made custom transitions and thresholds. He installed a tile entry with more custom trim. He built an island where the wall had been to hold my new sink and dishwasher which included relocating the plumbing, electrical and all new outlets. He even made "countertops" out of cardboard so I could see exactly how it would all fit in the room and where to locate the faucet. Through all of this he has been easygoing and helpful with the many decisions I needed to make. He also had no problem with me doing what I can-painting and cabinets to keep costs down and working with the tradesmen I brought in to do code work. I have recommended him to friends and family one of whom thanked me for sending her "a guy who is so honest" when he told her it would be cheaper for her to replace a damaged ceiling than to have him patch it up. Next will be new floors, more popcorn removal, ceiling fixtures and new tile in the bathroom upstairs and Mark will be doing all of it. This is not my first reno but it is as easier than any of the others. I will post pictures shortly so you can see why I'm so happy.

Jerry Davis and his crew installed a tile floor in my kitchen for me in Glastonbury Ct. They set the tile on a 45 degree angle which came out beautiful. Everything was completed in the span of a few days as promised. My house was left clean. It was truly a pleasure to have them work for me. I would recommend their services to anyone and plan on using them for future projects.

I’m not one to leave reviews but this time I absolutely had to. I went on thumbtack Sunday afternoon and Costa responded immediately to my flooring request and we agreed upon the price. He came out the following day at 8:30am and was finished putting down luxury vinyl planks in my 325 sq ft living room by lunch time!!! Very professional as I would highly recommend him for any of your flooring needs.

Don has been working on projects in my home for about a year now, he's been fantastic, clean, most of all trustworthy, reasonable and understanding. He works diligently and efficiently and has done the following in my home, bathroom remodel, plumbing updates, wall removals, floor installations both hardwood and porcelain, a lot of tile work, patching and sanding, and many more little things here and there. Would highly recommend and do so with confidence.

We have hired Tom several times in the last few years for carpentry related problems. One project was a persistent leak from three large bay windows. Tom ripped out all the old wood and installed Azek (pvc type wood) so we wouldn't have to paint anymore- Hooray! He also eliminated a small window and matched the vinyl siding after removal of the window. He continued to follow up with us to make sure there were no more leaks. His last project was to install a screen door on the outside of a French door to the porch. This required some Tom-type ingenuity to make sure the door worked properly. Tom pays great attention to the details at a reasonable price. We recommend him highly!

I hired John for many jobs in my house. He replaced the floor in two rooms, painted the rooms, added nice molding, and I was very pleased with his work. Second time I hired him he rebuilt an old bathroom, made it look amazing, unrecognizable ! with its beautiful marble and nice tile work, as well new plumbing. The third time I hired him , John renovated my old sunroom. He covered the inside walls with nice panels , installed new windows, installed new light/fan, installed two outside doors, vinyl siding outside the sunroom, and everything looks just impacable. I would always recommend Mr John Palmer to any of my friends, or to anybody that need a professional contractor, someone you can rely on, someone you can count on and trust.

My experience with Twin Renovation was outstanding. They finished my basement and this project was completed about 2 weeks ago, so while I can't comment on the long-term lasting results, and immediate finished product is exactly what I was looking for. It was a relatively simple job - I just wanted the concrete walls nicely finished in a cost-effective way and for the existing tile floor to be covered in carpet. Right off the bat even before coming to see the project, Vinnie spent time with me carefully listening to my ideas and questions, and giving me advice about what would work best for my situation. Quotes I got from other contractors only included moisture protection, framing with furring strips, and drywall, and were still astoundingly high even without the flooring. Vinnie's quote was significantly under every other quote I got and included all those things plus the carpeting, painting the walls, framing out the windows, and installing a nice baseboard and window trim. Vinnie and his team were all very friendly, approachable, and accommodating, which helped put me at ease because this was the first home renovation project I had ever attempted and I wasn't confident in how to walk through the process. Vinnie communicated well and kept me well-informed every step of the way, and they ultimately finished the entire project in under a week while staying true to the original price quoted. At the end they told me that if I noticed any problems or issues that I should just call them and they'd come back to fix it. I also really appreciated their honesty because at the last-minute I asked if they could carpet the stairway as well and Vinnie said that his carpeting specialist was not available for a while. He said that the person doing the work was proficient in carpeting flat flooring but was not proficient in stairways, and he would prefer to be honest rather than potentially do a sub-par job on something. I think sometimes people can be greedy and want to find any way to inflate prices and make an extra buck, and that is just not how Twin Renovation does business. I got a fair price for high quality work and I will definitely be using them again and recommending them to anyone I know! Thank you!

I hired Charles to repair and paint my ceilings and did a great job. I then contracted with Charles to paint two bedrooms and a hallway. He then installed vinyl flooring in my kitchen. He showed up on time, did the work in a timely fashion, cleaned up after himself and was a pleasure to work with. He also offered me advice on some of the other projects I had underway. I would recommend Elevated Properties for your job.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

        • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
          • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
        • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
          • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
        • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
          • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
        • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
          • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
        • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
          • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
          • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
          • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
            • Includes removal of the dura rock.
        • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

        • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
          • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
        • 620 square feet of maple floor:
          • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
          • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
            • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
