Berry was great. He came over late on the same night I contacted him to check out the cabinet installation situation. He came back the next day to install my new kitchen base cabinets. He was professional and a pleasure to work with!

I needed a medium sized cabinet assembled. Joe got the job and arrived on time and immediately began to work. He encountered a small issue and his problem solving skills went into effect and resolved the issue. I am definitely pleased with this service and highly recommend it to anyone who needs furniture assembled. Will call for all my future needs. Thanks for quality work.

Harry did a terrific job in every respect — from installing blinds, a smoke detector, and a full length mirror, to hanging cabinets and various pieces of art (including one more than 7 feet wide, which he mounted on a plaster wall perfectly level), fixing an outdoor gate, and staining outdoor steps. All the work was done with meticulous care and concern to be meeting our needs. We will definitely have him back for other projects. It's a privilege to recommend him to others!

Ted and his team were terrific. After surveying the many projects we needed, he gave me a very fair estimate, scheduled time for the work and arrived promptly. Work included repairing cracked ceilings and repainting, repairing leaky valve in shower, installing new shower heads, repairing water damaged wall by shower, minor cabinet repairs and shaving a door. All work was done in 1 day, very professionally. Clean up was immaculate. Ted is friendly, polite, professional and extremely helpful. We have more projects and have asked Ted to do them for us. Looking forward to working with him again. Highly recommend!

My client is opening a retail/office space and needed paint, fixtures, and shelves hung up in her space. Herson delivered excellent service by hanging all of the fixtures, and painting the entire store in one day. He also meant my client's budget and exceeded her expectations.

I hired Rome to finish my kitchen for me as I'm redoing it myself. It took him a very short period of time to make everything on the walls look perfect! He also helped me choose the colors on the walls to compliment the granite and the kitchen cabinets. I cannot wait to see the final product. I was so impressed with his work, his attention to detail, he has a loyal customer for life and I'll be referring him to everyone I know. Great talent, affordable pricing and amazing work! He will be taking care of my entire house after this project is complete! Love his work!!!!!

It was a pleasure working with Bill. Not only did he do an excellent job installing our shutters, he went above and beyond what we hired him for and fixed two of our kitchen cabinet doors at no extra charge! I would definitely hire Bill again!

We had an awesome experience with Zoltan. He was on time and got everything done with our cabinet in an excellent way. His experience as a carpenter is also a plus - so he's not just good with assembly, mounting, etc. but he also thinks right & creatively with the steps/work that he does. I will certainly recommend Zoltan to family & friends and use his help/services again in the future. Nice job!

I hired Gamboa painting to paint my kitchen cabinets, walls and ceiling. It wasn't until I had seen Gamboa's work that I was comfortable having my kitchen cabinets spray painted. Finding the right person to do the job is critical in cabinet painting because imperfections show easily and durability is very important. Gamboa's painting did an excellent job patching and preparing the walls and ceiling as well. They were neat, easy to communicate with and there was never any disagreement about the scope of the job or agreed upon price. It was a pleasure dealing with Carlos and his crew and I highly recommend his company.

At our office, we needed to have our marble countertop cut so that we could put a full size refrigerator in its place. We had trouble finding someone who could do it, because it should require taking the counter top out and cutting it with a water saw outside. Osman said he could do it where it was installed by hand without removing it. He came on time for both the estimate and the appointment, he cut the marble and polished the edge, removed the old cabinets, moved the fridge in its place and the marble looks beautiful. Fantastic job.

Wow! Susan and her assistant were absolutely amazing. My household goods and furniture arrived this week from Washington DC and they unpacked everything for me. I was extremely ill (going through a severe lupus flare) and they simply proceeded ahead to organize and put away everything I own -- from putting down shelf liner in my cabinets to hanging clothes in my closet to putting my bed together all in a meticulous and coordinated manner. My condo looks like a showroom. If you have a chance to hire Susan you will never ever regret it. In fact, you would regret it if you don't!

We hired Top Hammer for the following two major projects: 1. Kitchen renovation last winter (2015/2016) with updated floor plan, custom cabinets, new wood floors, expanded island, granite counter tops, stone back splash, installation of new appliances, spray foam insulation, plumbing, electrical work and lighting. As part of this project we also relocated our washer and drier from the mud room adjacent to the kitchen to an upstairs utility closet. The mud room was tiled and a small sink added. 2. Renovation of our unfinished basement this past summer (2016) which gave us a wide open floor plan that included an area for a home gym as well as space for a home entertainment center, air hockey and ping pong table. In addition, a storage room was built around the air handler equipment so that it is now out of the way. The most ambitious aspect of this project was a small two-level addition to house with new roof, windows, door, siding, and spray foam insulation. The addition included a full bathroom on the upper level, additional storage for our oil tanks on the lower level and a new entry from the backyard with stairs down to basement. This project also entailed an HVAC upgrade throughout the basement, insulation, electrical, lighting and plumbing. We couldn't be happier with the results. The work flow in the kitchen is so much better than before and the cabinetry is amazing. And no more squeaky floors! The reaction from our guests has consistently been "WOW!" In addition, the mud room is now a perfect entry way into the house and having the washer and dryer upstairs is a definite plus. One thing that made Mike stand out compared to other contractors we have worked with in the past is his thoughtfulness. Having a kitchen reno can be one of the most disruptive and stressful projects undertaken. However, Mike minimized the impact by creating a temporary kitchen for us to use during construction. We can't thank him enough for this. The basement also turned out great. We have much needed storage and so much more space to have fun. Can't wait to start entertaining family and friends! The bathroom design is terrific and the tile work is outstanding. And having the new entry way from the back yard with easy access to the bathroom will be so convenient for our pool guests. One of the most satisfying results of the project is how seamless the new addition looks. Our friends have commented that the addition looks like it was always part of the house. Can't ask for a better compliment than that. Aside from the outstanding results, Mike is a pleasure to work with. He is very knowledgeable and hires hard-working qualified sub-contractors. He's also not afraid to step in and roll up his sleeves if necessary to help get the job done. Most importantly, he is always reachable and responds immediately if an issue arises.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
