  • Aysgarth Piano Studio

    (3 reviews)

I teach piano to children and adults, from age 6 and beyond, who are beginners, have some experience, or coming back to the piano after a long break. What we do here is approach the instrument as a great gift, a joy in the best of times, perhaps a source of comfort in difficult times...but always a marvelous means of expression for those who love music. I graduated from SUNY Fredonia with B.A. in Piano Performance and studied while there with Claudette Sorel, the late concert and recording artist, author and adjudicator...a brilliant and Master Teacher. My performance, whether as soloist or duo-pianist, was always informed by the standards of excellence under Miss Sorel's tutelage. Today, my students are taught in a relaxed atmosphere and we do serious work but enjoy humor as we progress. My primary aim is to make sure that most important of all, the art of practicing is cultivated, for without this, we are "spinning our wheels" and very little is achieved. Lessons are given in increments of 1/2 hr., 3/4 hr., or full hour.

  • Dan's Performing, Music, and Voice Lessons

If you want to become a performer, yes, you could choose me as your teacher. If you want to be a musician/artist, look no further! Whether you want to improve your singing voice, learn better techniques, learn new songs/genres, get ready or an audition, or just take up lessons as a hobby, I will help you to reach your full potential. I have the passion for music, theatre, and performing that can't be matched. (I carry a pitch pipe with me wherever I go. That's not a joke. I have the holster and everything, which I've used in many choir performances. You never know when you'll need a pitch pipe.) I have been teaching piano and guitar for about four years. I've been teaching voice and acting lessons for about three years and all of my students have developed more flexibility in dynamics, a wider range, and more confidence when performing and auditioning. I have five years of choir experience, eight years of a Capella singing experience, and fives of musical theatre and straight theatre experience. I've performed at Avery Fischer Hall in NY in Handel's Messiah, as well as having solos in numerous venues including: Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France and Oxford University and St. Paul's Cathedral in England. My pricing is very reasonable. I understand what it's like having to pay thousands of dollars for professional lessons, which I believe is wrong. I believe music and performing is too valuable to be restricted from families with lower incomes. I'm very willing to negotiate prices and lesson lengths. I am simply using what I love to do to help support myself financially in a tough economy. I will help you get over those nervous jitters you feel before and while you're performing. I'll help you build self-confidence and build your focus. After a few lessons with me, you'll be looking at music or acting with a whole new perspective!

  • Jack Sheehan

After watching the film "School of Rock," the guitar called to me. I saw its liberating effects on a youth on the screen, and that's what I was looking for. It would come to pass that music would, and continues to, liberate me to this day. It has taken me from a diamond-in-the-rough guitar teacher in a hole in the wall in Stratford, CT, USA, to the most prestigious contemporary music school in the world. It has taken me through bands, ensembles, and projects playing jazz, blues, rock, progressive music, reggae, Afro beat, hip-hop, and funk. From every recital, from every local gig in a sold-out venue (or an empty one) every festival, drum circle, or bonfire/rehearsal space/garage/basement jam, I have learned more and yearned for the next challenge, beat, chorus, gig, and moment I can play my instrument. Along with that, I have learned how to sing, play the bass, piano, percussion, drums, and multiple world instruments such as the native American flute and Charango. I think what music has taught me most is that my progress in this world while it may seem to come from some outside force, call it luck, God, karma, or privilege, it's been up to me to go out there and achieve my dreams. It's the reason I am writing these very words to whoever will read them. My teaching philosophy is this: I think that music, on a cerebral level, is communicative. We use it to express ourselves sonically. In order to become a great musician, one has to get what is in their mind to communicate with their body to play their instrument (voice is an instrument too), allowing for their audience to hear what they think. It really is that connected. I can teach you how to be a musician, an instrumentalist, singer, or even a listener. The choice is yours.

David J. Gleba, Piano & Composition Lessons

(11 reviews)

What do you love about your job?

I love getting to know people (especially children) and sharing my passion for great music with them!

What or who inspired you to start your own business?

I was inspired by my own excellent teachers: the late Virginia Eklund of Great Falls, Montana, and the late Leopold Godowsky III of Clinton, Connecticut.

Describe your most memorable project.

I helped a composition student prepare a piece for public performance; it received an extended standing ovation! Later, when I congratulated him, he said that he couldn't have done it without my assistance!
