Introduction: I offer violin and viola lessons, and as a founding member of a String Quartet, I will provide special music for any event. As a teacher, I provide lessons to students at all levels of ability and experience by providing a student-based approach to teaching, so that each individual is provided the best possible learning environment. We were so grateful to have Matthew as my elder son's first violin teacher and my son learned violin with him for two years. Matthew is such a passionate violinist and a inspirational teacher, who was always able to make my son to enjoy music and motivate him to practice and aim high. Matthew is very positive, encouraging, calm, and gentle, which makes him a wonderful teacher for different ages. My son started violin with Matthew when he was 10 and had almost seven years of experience in piano by that time, which made him learn violin easier and faster than students without any previous musical experience; however, my son was also more likely to get frustrated as unintentionally comparing his capability to play piano to play violin. Matthew did a much better job than me to deal with my son's frustrations, complains, and some other negative emotions. Matthew had high expectations for his students and worked diligently with them to build up students' self-esteem by achieving appropriately-challenging goals. Right after Matthew and his family were certain that they would move, he notified us and, at the same time, provided a list of violin teacher names. He worked closely with us on finding a new violin teacher to make sure that my son would still be in good hands. It is a pity that my son can't learn violin with Matthew anymore, though we wish him and his family the best in the new city.

Matt is a wonderful musician and gifted teacher. He has worked with students across a variety if skill levels and brings out the very best. He is patient and yet challenges his student to put forth their best efforts. I worked with Matt in my capacity as founder if the Loudoun County Youth Orchestra.

I hold three degrees in music (BM, MM, AD) and have been teaching privately and performing professionally for 20 years. In addition to my musical life, I spent 13 years as an educator in grades K-12.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I teach violin and viola students of all ages and abilities from beginners as young as 6, to advanced players needing guidance before an audition!
