Jim was the first person to reply to my Thumbtack request with an initial quote and projected availability. Within about 24 hours, he was at our door, repairing a freezer/defrosting issue with our refrigerator. His price was very reasonable and his honest approach has made him our new "go-to" for any future appliance issues.

First time hiring on Thumbtack. Rose was quick to respond, and also patient enough to wait for me to make my decision. The repairman, John, was a nice guy. He confirmed the cost to repair the dishwasher would be more than it’s worth and suggested I just buy a new one. The only reason I’m not giving a 5 star review is because he was here for 15 minutes, and only spent about 8-9 minutes actually doing something to my dishwasher. The rest of the time we just talked about pets. Not that I minded the conversation, but I would have been happier if he didn’t charge me the whole $75 for small talk. Bringing it down to $60 would have been more acceptable for what this visit was worth. That said, I will still most likely hire them again for appliance repairs in the future. =)

Luis was amazing!! He was very knowledgeable about Samsung products which is very hard to find!! Luis was able to determine what the problem was and repaired it quickly. He's honest and very reasonably priced. He even called the next day to make sure I was happy with the repair and that everything was repaired to my satisfaction, Who does that? Do not hesitate to hire him!! I am so happy I found him and will use him in the future without question!! Thank you Luis.

As a Realtor it is crucial to have pros on your speed dial. At an inspection recently, I had a refrigerator fail it could have cause my deal to blow up. I had Dyer Repair out to the property the very next day. He Inspected all the appliances, repaired the refrigerator and extended the warranty on the repairs since the new owner wouldn't be using it for another 30 days when we closed. The buyer was put at ease and we managed to close on time. I cant say enough about having good help when you need it. Dyer Repair is a great appliance repair company that I can easily refer.

Jose showed up promptly and fixed the issue in the same day. With the repair we received a 30 day warranty. Best of all is that I didn't feel like we were overcharged- another thumbtack company told me it would cost 3-4 times as much as what JAM charged. Also, the diagnostic fee was less and it was actually included in the repair cost- the other guy charges $100.00 just to diagnose. Thanks Jose!

we have been in this field for over 56yrs. There are very few tv serv. technicians availble in todays serv. industry. In RI there are only a handfull, and most will NOT travel to a customers home or buss. to render services....we do..and will fix on site..( unless parts or materials have to be ordered) and, our service pricing is usually lower than most co. because we are a home based buss. which cuts our overhead...which we pass these savings to our customers!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
