Stefan was extremely professional and helpful. I was nervous about using a company that I had never heard of. And I wanted to be sure that the truck and drivers showed up as I was taking off a day from my own business. Stefan gave me his cell number just is case there were any problems. The two drivers were wonderful. there was a tie-up on the BQE which I heard about on the radio but they called to tell me. I asked them to let me know when they were five minutes from my home. And they did and kept in communication with me throughout. The men were neat, clean, professional and extremely efficient. They did everything I requested of them which involved bringing boxes to my storage unit and sorting them by shredding and storing. And removed the cartons that I needed to take back home because they could not be sorted Iron Mountain. We worked effortlessly as a team both in my home and at the storage unit. They could not be more polite and hardworking. The price for all this moving back and forth was very reasonable and fair.In my opinion, Stefan runs a terrific shop and I would highly recommend him for his honesty, dependability, fair pricing and ease of working with. For me, it was a great pick and the best price I was quoted for the job. Thank you Stefan!

Overall, a good experience with Dyno Moving. The moving guys came to my place on time, worked efficiently, and took good care of my stuff. The price was very competitive for three men and a truck. The only reason for not giving five stars is that the sales department was not always very responsive or polite, at least when compared to other firms I have been dealing with. Sometimes, when communicating with them by email, I had to wait for a response several days and even send a reminder. And sometimes I had to ask a simple question several times before getting an answer. But luckily, and most importantly, the actual move went well.

Unfortunately I had a terrible experience with this company. It took them 12 hours to move my 2 bedroom apt, and this included my wife and I constantly moving items as well; this includes us constantly loading our own hand truck and assisting to carry heavy objects. In the end, I still needed to do two extra trips back to my apartment just to complete the move. In addition, this process took so long, I had to feed the movers, and none of my furniture was reassembled. In fact the hardware for my bed was left behind in the old apartment. If I didn't mention it, the old apartment is a 40 minute drive away. Finally, SEVEN pieces of furniture were significantly damaged in the process (pictures attached), presumably because they brought too small of a truck and were trying to force it in. The supervisor of this crew consistently said he was given insufficient equipment by his boss. When I explained all of this to the person in charge he blamed me for having too much stuff and gave me a "discount" of $200. I had to do the moving/furniture assembly myself, and thousands of dollars of my furniture was broken...And it ONLY cost us $1500. I would not recommend using this company and if you do, I would pre negotiate a flat rate, and request a copy of their insurance.

Fantastic job! I bought a large sofa from Costo and the guys from Fair Price Moving came and picked it up and delivered it to my home. They were friendly, on-time and efficient. David on the phone was also friendly and a good communicator. I would use them again and would recommend them to my friends.

When i had to move i requested quotes from different moving companies. I never have too much stuff even then they were sending me high cost estimates. I was not willing to pay high amount for some boxes, a bed and a table. Then i saw a quote from Great Movers and they were charging very less price than any other moving company. I saw many good reviews and 5 star rating of Great Movers, i got satisfied too. They sent 2 men for my condo. They were very professional and they efficiently helped me in my move. I would definitely recommend these guys.

I hired CCS Moving to move my furniture from my 1 bedroom apartment from uptown to my new residence in downtown Manhattan. The movers were courteous and professional and since I work crazy hours, I needed them to pack my items for me, as I was moving at the end of the month. I had previously contacted several moving companies but they all could not accommodate the time frame I needed my move completed in. CCS made every effort to ensure I would have no problems. They handled everything and their pricing was very fair. I would recommend CCS to anyone who is planning to move. I will be moving again once my lease is up and I plan on using CCS again. I also have recommended them to a few of my friends and family. Thank you CCS for making everything so much easier. I wish I could give more than 5 stars for such wonderful service.

Class act guys. We hired in Ridgewood for moving some furniture in and out. Dariusz was a gentleman and he and his counterpart turned up on time with all the right equipment and were friendly and professional. Job ended up being a bit more complex than anticipated (to get a dresser up the stairs, he had to take a door off hinges and back into the closet to make it fit), but they took it in stride with great humor. Highly recommend.

Every member of the Ample Moving team that I interacted with was nothing short of kind and incredibly patient. Leading up to moving day, I spoke with and confirmed logistics with Alex - he was very easy to work with and I appreciated the fact that he was so understanding of me and the fact that this was my first significant move! I always felt like I was in the loop and knew what was going on. I had a four-man crew assist with moving my stuff from Linden, NJ to Newark, NJ - can't say enough GOOD about the overall experience. The guys were very nice and despite a few hiccups with navigating my new apartment building (mainly distance from the loading dock to my place), they were extremely considerate of my items and myself. Everything was protected with blankets and secured with tape, no damage to any furniture - I also have a ton of plants, including an indoor lemon tree, and they treated them with the utmost care!! I'd choose Ample Moving again in a heartbeat, they're fantastic to work with and made my move go WAY smoother than I anticipated! I'm endlessly grateful for their assistance!

12/3/17 Was the 2nd time I hired Brian from Queens Junk Removal /Moving to remove junk from my apartment. I live in a 4th floor walk up and once again, Brian and his assistant Mack were punctual and prompt, Brian confirming the appointment the day before, and texting the day of the appointment that he was on the way. They arrived on time and fully prepared for the job. They worked very hard, quickly, and efficiently to remove alot of stuff, including a large metal frame from a sofa that I used to have. They are very professional and never leave a mess or damage with their work. They are very polite, courteous and responsive to all matters. The cost is very reasonable and I received a discount from Brian because this was the 2nd time I hired him. I highly recommend Brian of Queens Junk Removal/Moving and thank him for his excellent work and professionalism!

My experience with KP Quality Movers was EXCELLENT. This was the ONLY moving company that agreed to give me a FLAT RATE. Everyone else wanted me to count every single item and box and we are talking an out of state, entire house move. Kris & Paul were friendly and professional. Their movers were also friendly and professional and they REALLY were doing their utmost best to provide excellent service. Kris was exceptional with detailed advice on how best to pack fragile items and he even gave us several new boxes including the pricey wardrobe boxes. For Price and Quality you will not find a better mover. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND "KP QUALITY MOVERS" !!

Traffic was crazy that day, so the guys arrived a little late, but made up for lost time with their efficiency and professionalism. It was not an easy move, but by the end, nothing was broken or damaged and we were out of our old place within an hour or so. We also had some extra furniture that we needed help removing from the apartment for disposal, and they took care of those pieces as well. Couldn't have asked for a better moving experience!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
