First of all HASSLE FREE MOVERS were GREAT!!!! ALL of my friends have used them and they came highly recommended.Mark gave me an hourly rate and I was happy with that. he then explained he wanted to come by and see the scope of my move.I know from the rest of my friends he would come by and maybe give a FLAT RATE. He did a walk through and seen what I needed as far as boxes because I wanted some wardrobe boxes to hang clothes in. They were as great as I thought and I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who is moving. They were so easy to deal with, they came out and after a walk through we sat down set a date and I gave a deposit to secure my day. They really took care of my belongings by wrapping up my wood pieces of furniture..The movers even disassembled a few beds for me and put them together at the new place. (HASSLE FREE MOVERS put together the beds better than the people who delivered them.) I had a up- wright piano that Mark and Dave wrapped up really nice and delivered the piano and the rest of my belongings. after completion of the move the movers did a walk through. We ended up having the movers move some things that I really was not sure of where I was going to put them. They were a wonderful bunch. I would highly recommend them to anyone moving.

Let me start by saying that All Points Movers were very professional. It started with the movers arriving on time and getting down to business. I have three glass tables they took serious precautions to making sure that they didn't break, not only the glass tables but also a very expensive headboard "No scratches at all"!! I highly recommend the team from All Points, they said the job would take 2hrs. and it did!! Y. Tosado

The job was to move boxes from home to a storage rate. Was given a flat rate which I liked. Very courteous and efficient movers. However, they werelate without calling me. Roya followed up and calledme about the movers' location. Would use again.

I hired New Horizon for an extraordinarily last minute-move and they went above and beyond the call of duty in helping me get it done. Mistakenly, I didn't hire New Horizon initially because another service provider underbid them slightly. It was a penny-wise but pound-foolish decision. The other movers cancelled on me the morning of my move and I had to scramble to get the move done before my lease expired. New Horizon came to my rescue. Not only were they able to squeeze me into their schedule at the very last second, but they did a Houdini-like job of making my entire one bedroom apartment fit into a storage space the size of a large bathroom. The guys were courteous, quick, careful, clean, and consummately professional. I could not be more happy with this service. Don't make my mistake, go with New Horizon. You won't be disappointed. Bravo Guys! -Johnson Atkinson

Nothing but great things to say about Heavy Lifters. Joe helped us out in a pinch; I loved his “no problem!” Attitude. Mimi and Ed were amazing movers. They were super-professional, friendly, and did a great job. Mimi even gave us some great tips on how to pack a POD. If you want efficient and professional movers, call Joe at Heavy Lifters!!

The movers were professional, hardworking and fast! They knew exactly how to move all our stuff without scuffing walls or breaking things. They took apart the stuff that needed to be. They loaded the truck professionally, with everything held down and the most weight in front. We moved from a colonial style house to a raised ranch with a ton of furniture and bags and boxes and beds and they did it all in 3 hours time. It was amazing, they really saved our butts that day, not to mention it was crazy hot and humid and they worked so hard right through only needing occasional water breaks. Would hire them Again in an instant! Thank you so much! Great great job!!!

Darryl and his crew were absolutely incredible. They weren't just the best movers I've ever had, the whole move was some of the best customer service I've ever had. I had a bit of an odd move - we had to first move out of a 1 story walk-up in the East Village, then out of a storage unit about 15 blocks away, then all the way to the Upper West Side. But they were absolute pros. They showed up 15 mins early, which in NYC is crucial, because you never know what can go wrong on the day of your move. They were extremely polite and courteous as they assessed the amount, then went to work. They were extremely careful with everything, and even helped me take the AC out of the window, AND made sure to drain it of excess water before putting it on the truck. They did all the little and thoughtful touches perfectly. At the storage unit, they were able to make a tight fit to park it in the loading bay - we're talking by an inch or two, yet they pulled it off in one try. When they delivered everything to the new place, they were just as careful, and placed everything in a way so that we could easily access key areas and unpack in a more efficient way. And above all, they were all extremely nice, polite, courteous, and great to chat with, as well as a great value. I was being quoted higher prices for a truck and 3 movers, and even a truck and 2 movers. You absolutely will not go wrong picking this company. Thanks again to Darryl and the guys!

Charles Hill and Economy Movers were extremely professional. They responded very quickly - we had the job done the next day after submitting our request. They communicated well to get specifics on the job we needed done. They were kind, considerate and cheerful. We couldn't have asked for a better experience - and the price was reasonable.

The movers were extremely helpful couteous and careful. I had a refrigerator that was needed to be brought up one story. The Home Depot delivery guys refused to deliver stating it would not fit. Junkluggers took the doors off the refrigerator and brought it up - easy peasy - put the doors on and all in order. They did a fabulos job and came same day for me as the Home Depot guys just dumped the refrigerator outside my front door (the Home Depot guys broke a light in so doing as well...will never buy from Home Depot again). Junkluggers saved my weekend, sanity and new kitchen. Thank you!

I needed a piece of extremely cumbersome furniture moved up two narrow flights of stairs. Nate / Buddy's Carpet Cleaning & Moving came to my rescue and were fantastic. Nate responded promptly, offered me a great price, fit exactly to my schedule, arrived early, completed the job promptly and professionally, and was courteous, careful, and helpful throughout. I was really shocked, as I've had my share of bad experiences with movers, but in this case I couldn't have imagined a better experience.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.
