Our building management had EbRR do a kitchen and hallway cleaning for our restaurant. Luis & Ronnie were courteous and on time as requested by Ed. Ed showed up for the final walkthrough and will be most certainly calling back. They breathed new life into the old freezer that we had discussed about replacing but now we have saved a lot of money.

My A/C was shutting down intermittently and my refrigerator freezer didn't work. Hached came over the same day at short notice and did a full inspection of both for a reasonable price. When cleaning the compressor didn't work, he came back the next day to refill the freon and that fixed my fridge. He was punctual, courteous and fast. Would recommend.

My bathroom sink and my tub was draining really slow. It took Brandon no time at all to unclog them both. Turns out, it was a bunch of hair in there causing the clog. Also, the ice box was not making ice like it should, but the water was running. Brandon was able to fix the issue in the back of the freezer and now the ice box works like new! Overall, very professional and knows what he's doing!

A very nice man showed up on time as scheduled. He quickly determined what was wrong with our freezer. However the cost of parts and labor made the repair half the cost of a new frig. So we opted to buy a new refrigerator. We were grateful to get the repair information so we knew what to do next.

Joe Charles was fantastic. He agreed to come out to our house the same day, even though we were located on the other side of Baltimore. Then my wife wasn't there when he arrived. He called me and agreed to wait another 30 minutes! He ended up not only fixing the broken freezer but also a refrigerator we had in the garage that had gone on the fritz when we stuffed it full of the food from the failed freezer. So he fixed them both at a reasonable price. Awesome service.

Zaq was on time, professional, knowledgeable and gave an excellent quote. He came out to meet us before he gave the quote and it was the best one and he did an excellent job. He was always easy to get a hold of and returned my calls or texts immediately. On the day he arrived, it was raining hard and he went back and forth all day to cut the mosaic sheets to fit...poor guy! When all was said and done, the top and edges were all plum and level and he did the job a day early. When we came to see the finished product, we liked it so much that we asked if he could do under-cabinet lighting so the back splash would pop and we also needed an electric box to be installed in the basement for a freezer, where there was none. He said yes to both and the next day they were both done, at an excellent and fair price. He cleaned up after himself and we couldn't be happier! Zaq is on speed dial for us forever! Thank you for your work and your work ethic!

I had an emergency situation with a freezer that was not getting cold. My food was thawing. I called a few appliance repair contractors and Global Repairs could respond the fastest time and at the least expensive price. The service technician arrived promptly, identified the problem and fixed it in 15 minutes with no additional expense to me. He also gave me advice about how to avoid the problem (i.e. power surge) in the future.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who fixes refrigerators?

Typically, appliance repair technicians who offer refrigeration repair also work with washers, dryers, dishwashers and other household appliances. While there is no formal training required to be an appliance repair technician, consider certification requirements, as the technician should know how to safely work with refrigerants (the chemical that keeps your fridge cold) and substitute refrigerants such as HFCs. You should also read reviews to get a sense of the pro’s experience and reputation. The appliance repair pro will come to your home, bringing all the necessary tools for diagnosis. They may need to order parts to complete the job, but all the work will take place in your home. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
