I decided to select EBRR prop cleanup after reading some positive reviews from other restaurant operators who needed construction post cleaning. Also, since they are locally owned small business compared to a national francise. The admin Ed bilo when we set the initial appointment for estimate and inspection. The project lead was Luis one of the general managers. Our Indian restaurant had severe dust buildup on the hvac lines and wires which needed to be cleaned. The cleaning took a full day with four cleaners for our 8000 square foot place. There was no dilly dallying and everyone was working the entire time and Ed showed up later to make sure that all the tasked had been completed. I have already scheduled them to come sanitize our kitchen on a monthly basis.

The quality of work was very good. The original quote was for $199 to do mold abatement, but when they arrived, perhaps it was worse than anticipated because the actual bill for mold abatement was $399. The did recommend a piece of equipment, a UV light, for installation and charged $60 less than retail price, so Leo is a good guy.

We were provided with a house cleaning of mold. He went above and beyond the cleaning. He made sure we would know what to do when removing wallpaper throughout the house bc the glue would hold some mold. He was awesome and made sure we understood everything he was going to do. He quoted and the price never changed. He found 2 extra things in the house that was not seen in the walk through and did not add onto the price. Highly suggest if you need a mold removal.

Val did an outstanding job on the my old (home built in 1952) HVAC cleaning of air ducts, coil and main lines. I have only lived in this home since January 28, 2017. Val informed me that my unit had never had an HVAC cleaning. The dust buildup and debris was atrocious. He showed me every area that he cleaned thorough out the whole process. Val was very spot-on, informative, knowledgable, helpful and most of all worked efficiently! He informed me that there is black mold growing in one part of the air duct system also and how to properly place the filters inside the slot and proper upkeep on the HVAC unit going forward. I will have to schedule another appointment for that to be done. He was kind enough to take off the old corroded, painted over white register vents and directly referred me to some one to put on new white ones. He also came back the next day, first thing in the morning to show me the proper way to set the thermostat so that the fan will not run all the time. I will definitely stay with Val's company and have the HVAC done next April as recommended by Val and refer him to any family or friends. Thank you Val for your HVAC and mold cleaning services 😊

This Pro is very professional and showed up earlier than he originally told me. Which was great. He would have got a five, but a few things had my wife and I feeling that the service was not a 5 star. He does not move any furniture out of the way. So be ready and have your furniture out of the way ahead of time. Other offers I got the cleaners said they would move furniture to clean the entire room. Due to timing of this project and the fact that he was already at my house we let him do the work anyway. Otherwise I would have cancelled. Besides that the areas he cleaned looks great. Carpets are taking a lot longer to dry than what was estimated. Basement level is still very wet. Was expecting the carpet to be much dryer since he uses a truck vacuum. We Hired him and paid extra compared to other pros based on the truck. But don’t see the extra value in it. Beside that he did a great job. I also could have asked more questions before time.

Working with Carlos was a dream. He's easy to contact and is prompt with appointments. He did an exceptional job of cleaning up the mold which came from a pipe leak. He then returned after the pipe work to drywall the ceiling and paint. We cannot tell where the leak was nor that part of the ceiling was replaced. Excellent job!

I had a pretty bad and complicated leak on my first floor and basement that were partly linked but also separate issues. I got a few different quotes but MJ Home Services is the only one I felt would actually resolve my leak issue, which they did! They were extremely persistent and very professional. I am very happy that I no longer have to deal with a leaky ceiling and basement and they also got rid of all the mold in my walls and throughout the house. I would recommend them for any leak issue, they won't stop until it has been fixed.

Cletus and his crew came right away, and removed all the damaged flooring and sheetrock, which was a result of a broken pipe. They used blowers and heaters to remove all the water and moisture, so mold would not come. Cletus is helping to deal with the insurance company and public adjuster to get the claim covered so the restoration can proceed. He is knowledgeable, polite, respectful.

The job was mold remediation. Jason of Green Home Solutions came to our appointment right on time and did a very professional evaluation of the problem including air testing on both inside and outside. He then proposed a solution based on his test results. He again arrived at the appointed time and did the work contracted. I am very satisfied with the results and I felt that the cost was reasonable.

I hired this company to inspect and remove some mold in my laundry closet. Tony, the technician, was professional and thorough in explaining the issue to me and provided step-by-step guidance on what needed to be done. They have a 2 year guarantee on the mold removal.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a mold remediation?

Mold remediation is the process of identifying and removing unhealthy levels of mold that have colonized in a home, office, school or other building. Over time, if untreated, mold can destroy a home by breaking down cellulose-based materials (like wood or ceiling tiles) and causing a slow and messy decay. In the shorter term, a mold infestation can cause severe health problems. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), mold can trigger respiratory problems, nasal and sinus congestion, eye irritation, nose or throat irritation, skin irritations, problems with your nervous system, and aches and pains. Mold inspection and mold remediation are often requested in tandem, although they are two separate services. Nationally, mold inspection costs range from $250 to $300. If mold has been positively identified in your house, either by visual examination or through mold testing, remediation can safely remove it. Properly trained and equipped professionals use specialized equipment (like vacuums and air scrubbers with HEPA filters) to keep mold spores contained while they remove contaminated materials and treat infested areas with antimicrobial spray. A key component to a successful mold remediation after eliminating the mold is ensuring that the water source that caused the mold infestation is also resolved.

How does mold remediation work?

Mold remediation can eliminate mold colonies from your home or business. Mold is a normal part of daily life, but in wet or humid settings mold can quickly colonize and spread by making spores. Whether visible or hidden, untreated mold can cause real health problems and cause extensive (and expensive) damage to your property. Mold remediation involves killing the mold, removing the dead mold and preventing future mold growth. Here is an example of the steps involved in professional mold remediation:

  • Contain work area and apply negative air pressure HEPA air purifiers to prevent cross-contamination. If spores spread, the colonies can easily regrow elsewhere in your home.
  • Mist an EPA-registered antimicrobial to suspend and kill mold spores.
  • Remove affected building surfaces.
  • Bag and dispose of contaminated materials properly.
  • Treat cavities/underlayment and dehumidify.
  • Abrasively remove dead loose mold.
  • Apply EPA-registered protective sealer.
  • Perform clearance testing.

Remove containment materials.

How is a mold test done?

Mold testing can help identify a mold infestation in your home or business. Mold inspection costs can vary based on the type of test you want done and the number of samples you request. The national average mold inspection cost is $250-$300. The EPA explains that if you have a visible mold problem, in most cases sampling and testing is unnecessary. However, if you have unexplained and potential mold-related illness or can smell mold in your house, mold inspection costs may be a good investment. To avoid unscrupulous testers, the EPA recommends working with a testing agency that adheres to the analytical methods laid out by professional organizations such as the American Industrial Hygiene Association or the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists. Mold inspection costs can vary based on the type of testing done. Prices can also vary, depending on the size of the home, the number of surface areas to be tested, and the extent of the mold infestation. Here are some examples of mold inspection average costs:

  • Swab testing: $200-$300
    • A professional collects a surface swab from a potentially infested area for testing in a lab. Some professionals have concerns about this being the sole test done because it only gathers a small amount of data from a certain area of the house. That’s why it’s frequently done in conjunction with air cell testing.
  • Air cell testing: $250-$350
    • A professional collects an air sample in the home to measure the amount of mold spores in the air. This test is frequently done in conjunction with swab testing to ensure more complete data. Costs are higher for this test because the equipment required of the contractor is more expensive.
  • Both air cell and swab tests provided by the same company: $400-$600.

How do you get rid of mold?

Mold is a naturally occurring and important part of our ecosystem. That said, excessive mold can actually be hazardous to your health. Mold remediation is usually the best strategy to get rid of unhealthy levels of mold in your home or office. If you’re not comfortable working with mold or the area is larger than 10 square feet (3 feet by 3 feet), it is highly recommended to hire a mold remediation professional to resolve the problem. However, if you’re DIY-savvy, don’t have any health risks, and are not freaked out by mold, the EPA gives homeowners the greenlight to clean mold areas that are less than 10 square feet. Here are some EPA-recommended DIY cleaning tips:

  • Fix plumbing leaks and other water problems as soon as possible. Dry all items completely.
  • Scrub mold off hard surfaces with detergent and water, and dry completely.
  • Throw away absorbent or porous materials (like ceiling tiles and carpet) if they become moldy.
  • Avoid exposing yourself or others to mold.
  • Do not paint or caulk moldy surfaces. Clean up the mold and dry the surfaces before painting. Paint applied over moldy surfaces is likely to peel.
  • If you are unsure about how to clean an item (art, fine furniture, etc.) consult a reputable specialist affiliated with a professional organization in their field.

Is mold damage covered by insurance?

Mold damage may or may not be covered by your homeowner's insurance. Mold damage is caused by standing water and excess moisture. Mold damage can be covered by insurance when an item already covered under your homeowners insurance breaks accidentally — for example, if your plumbing suddenly ruptures and water floods your house, the homeowners insurance will cover part or all of the costs for the plumbing repair and any mold remediation costs necessary as a direct result of the water damage.

But you may not be able to get insurance to pay for your mold remediation costs if the damage is a result of your neglect — for example, if you’ve had a slow leak under your bathroom sink for years and have ignored the issue. If the insurer can determine that the mold damage is a result of your negligence, they likely won’t cover mold remediation costs. Also, most homeowners insurance will usually not cover mold remediation costs after a flood unless you have a special insurance rider covering your home in case of a flood. To help prevent mold damage, always keep humidity levels in your house between 30 percent and 60 percent, clean up water spills and damp areas right away, and ensure you have exhaust fans in your kitchen and bathroom.
