This was one of the most amazing two hour appointments of my life. Originally, I had asked Charles to come look at a dishwasher issue, but then we had some time to kill because he needed to wait for the cycle to run, so he just started fixing other problems, including: - fixing some electical switches - helping with some ongoing washing machine issues I've had - teaching me about Goji smart locks and other cool house technology He could have just sat there and waited for the dishwasher to run, but instead made amazing use of our two hours and fixed tons of problems. I will definitely ask Charles back for lots of my future issues. (Also, just friendly and very high quality work on everything he did!)

I had the need of what I thought would be a costly gasket repair on my washing machine. Don responded quickly and was able to diagnose the issue and, in fact, talked me through what turned out to be a simple retainer reattachment saving me the entire cost of a repair call. THAT...is an honest man! He was polite, curteous, extremely knowledgable and I cannot more highly recommend him to others. I will not hesitate to call him again and would have complete confidence that he will do a first class, professional job and won't rip me off in the process!

As always, Dan showed-up on time and delivered the quality I have come to expect from him. This is the fourth time I have used Dan for various tasks: painting, trash removal, handyman maintenance and electrical work and each time he has delivered great quality.

House Appliance Repairs is exactly the type of company you hope is coming to your house to do a repair. Our refrigerator stopped working and House Appliance Repair came the very next day. He knew exactly what was wrong and immediately ordered the part. He is very reasonably priced, honest, courteous and super professional. We highly recommend this company.

I have no problem recommending Borden Appliance. This was our first experience with them as we needed a service call on our washing machine and ice maker. Chuck knew right away without having to take the washing machine apart that it's time had come. I kind of suspected that ahead of time, but he reaffirmed. He recommended a couple of different brands and stores where we would find such items. Of course the ice maker was working just fine when Chuck arrived, but after listening to me explain what was happening and after running some quick diagnostics on our refrigerator / freezer, and after inspecting the rear of the unit he was able to solve the problem. The next day of course the ice maker was not working again, so I reached out to him and he quickly responded asking me to give the unite 48-72 hours to "reset" in response to his service on the unit. After two days the ice maker was running properly and making ice again on a regular and consistent basis! Finally, Chuck offered to clean all the dust and lint that had accumulated on the rear of our refrigerator on, around, and inside the vent area; he offered to do the same for our dryer to help maintain its efficiency. But he also suggested I save a couple hundred bucks and just do it myself, as he offered up advice as exactly how to clean / maintain those areas. So I took him up on his advice and took care of those tasks myself. Chuck was responsive, on time, offered sound advice, followed up to my post appointment emails, and he was fairly priced.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

      • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
      • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
      • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

      How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
