Bruce responded quickly to our call for help. We had several beehives nestled in several columns in our backyard. He came the same day, fully explained our options, and even came back to check that the bees were gone. We will definitely call on him for future needs. Thanks Bruce!

We called Adam's Pest Control for a couple of problems but the major problem was for ants - inside and outside the house. Inside we had ghost/sugar ants in the kitchen and outside we had bigger brown/black ants around the foundation and in the garage. Sheila, the Adam's technician, came out to evaluate the problem. She treated outside around the foundation and followed the trail into the garage and treated in there. That exterior treatment solved that problem with one treatment. Inside, the ghost ants took 3 treatments. Sheila had to lay bait each time, which the ants took back to the nest, but eventually killed them all. We have not seen any ants since. It has been about 2 months. We appreciate that when we called, Shila always came the same day or the next day, and she resolved the problem. Their prices are competitive with other companies and their service is superior. Shila was very knowledgeable about pest problems. She also saw destructive garden snails outside in the front garden and knew exactly what steps to take to eliminate them also. We highly recommend Adam's Pest Control.

I have nothing but good to say about Chris in all ways. He has great work ethics, very dependable, takes pride and responsibility for his work and wants to please the customer in every way possible. I have three very large Laurel Oaks in my front yard. The oaks had many dead limbs and needed thinning/pruning badly. I called a well established tree service here in Fort Pierce a couple of times for advice on what was needed to make the trees safer and a cost estimate. They gave me a date for when someone could come to my home, but no one ever came. This occurred twice with the same company! A neighbor had her 100 yr old Live Oak trimmed by Chris and she referred him to me. Right away he told me what I needed to have done, listened carefully to what I wanted and gave me more than a fair estimate. Cost was one of my greatest worries along with quality of work but with Chris I had nothing to worry about. His honesty and concern for the health of trees is a couple of his best traits. I highly recommend him but you be the judge once you meet him. I am sure you will be pleased with the cost and work he can do for you.

Then showed up 24 hours later and fixed my bee problem with no extenuating circumstances!!!!! And very reasonable on pricing. I realized on July 4th that bees were swarming around the 2nd story overhang that covers my front porch. I posted on Thumbtack and Mike responded, and then called me a few minutes later. Within 24 hours (that started on a holiday), Pest Umbrella had come out, given me an estimate, scheduled the service and completed the job. Mike kept me posted along the way via text messages, because I was out of town and working in a client's office where I couldn't always answer. Great customer service, very responsive, and hopefully now, BEE FREE

I had been battling a honey bee issue for 2 years at my house. After a pest control company and a "professional" bee company failed to make proper repairs - actually causing more damage - I found Joe on Thumbtack. After making my inquiry, he reached out to me within minutes. After exchanging information he went to my house and gave me a free preliminary quote which I agreed to. He was out when he said he would be and did the job quickly and professionally. He left no mess and even returned a week later to work with the roofing company hired to repair the damage caused by the original vendor. Very impressed with the communication and helpful nature exhibited by Joe. Highly recommended. James Boynton Beach

I take old or wrecked cars, trucks or tractor equipment, tittle or not, and piles of fence or scrape metal. I'm trustworthy and always a man of my word. I have a clean record and a family. I will respect your property. I will provide my own insurance, and I will sign a contract saying you're not responsible for my injuries or liable for me in anyway. I also remove nuisances animals, such as raccoons, opossums, armadillos, coyotes, and hogs. I have trapped dogs and fire arms, it's your choice. I will remove feral cats, but demand payment for such removal because I will not kill or relocate them. They will be taken to an animal shelter, then it will be their decisions on what to do with them. I'm an experienced hunter and know what I'm doing when it comes to catching or trapping. I'm a one-shot-one-kill type. I use a double 10 round clips in a 9mm assault rifle. I will be responsible and quick to get the job done.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How much does it cost to treat a house for termites?

Termites are not only creepy-crawly, they can literally eat your house out from underneath you. Termites feed on damp and dry wood and can chomp through your house at an alarming rate. The national average pest control cost for termite extermination is $240-$400. Treatment costs can be higher for an extensive infestation. Here are some examples of average pest control costs for termites:

  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: $3-$4 per linear foot.
    • For $75 per year, a company may offer a maintenance plan that provides inspection of the property and renewal of the warranty.
  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: approximately $400 for a 2,000-square-foot home at $3-$5 per linear foot.
    • The price is higher for additional work such as foaming and drilling inside of concrete slabs.
  • Fumigation treatment of drywood termites: $1,200-$1,500 for a 30,000- to 35,000-cubic-foot home
    • Fumigation is measured in cubic feet because it fills the airspace of the home and infiltrates the wood that the termites may be colonizing. The cost of fumigation is affected by the number of levels in the home as well as the square footage.

How much does it cost to get rid of cockroaches?

Cockroaches are not only ugly, they are difficult to get rid of. Quick and resilient, they can be hard to get rid of without professional help once they have inhabited a house. Nationally, the average range for cockroach pest control cost is $80-$130. Extermination professionals typically provide a free estimate to determine the extent of the infestation. They’ll check for the main sources of the bugs, identify bug access and entry points into your home, and determine the best method for elimination. There are a variety of cockroach extermination tools including gel baits and traps, pesticide foggers, desiccants (which dry out the cockroaches), neurotoxins, and other pesticides. Pest control costs can also cover preventive measures like regular spraying and trap maintenance. Some regions of the country are much more prone to cockroach problems than others, so pest control costs may need to be part of your quarterly budget. Cockroaches love dark, humid, and warm areas and water sources, so place traps near your washer and dryer and under your sinks.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.

How much does it cost to get a pest inspection?

In general there is no cost for a pest inspection. Exterminators typically provide a free property or building inspection and then provide you with a written estimate outlining the necessary treatment and cost. The home visit allows the exterminator to assess the problem and let you know what your pest control cost will be if you contract with their services. You may need a termite inspection for real estate purposes. This will be a verified inspection showing that the house in question is termite-free (often done before a sale). The inspection may cost a flat rate, such as $125-$150, depending on house size.

It’s hard to predict pest control costs sight unseen due to the variety of factors that go into pest treatment. For example, a bedbug problem for one customer may be confined to one room and be easy to access and treat in one visit if the room is clear of clutter and the bedbugs have been caught early. In another home, a bedbug problem may also be confined to one room, but there’s a great deal of clutter, providing more hiding places for the bugs and requiring more spray and labor for the exterminator, as well as many pieces of large furniture in the room that need to sprayed. Depending on the maturity of the infestation, a bedbug problem may require multiple visits to entirely eliminate. This is why many companies provide a free inspection to determine pest control costs and provide you the most accurate quote possible.
