I scheduled an appointment for one of the technicians to come to my house and give me a free quote. What I got was a high sales pressure pitch with a $50 Discount thrown in if I agreed to let him do the job there and then. I asked him the price of the impact rollers and he said he would have to take the door off the track to determine the price, He gave me a broad range anywhere from $40 to $140. I told him to go ahead and take the door off. This basically means once he removes the door he has the job, when the door was removed I got the price of the roller, and of course, they were at the high end of his price range. At this stage, I had no option but to hire him. The bottom line is that the price that he charged me for each roller was $132. I was absolutely shocked about how something like this could cost so much, I questioned him about the price and he said they were stainless steel and specially made for impact doors. What they sell at Home Depot and Lowe`s is inferior. I told him to only do one side of the double doors as I could not believe what he charged for the labor and rollers and I wanted to get bids from different companies. For one door he charged $461.50I had the same technician come back out to realign the door he worked on, while he was at my house he gave me a quote for the other three doors his price was over $1300.00 absolutely ridiculous and I said NO. He left and 5 minutes later he comes back and offers me this one-time-only deal for $973.50. and that was for the 3 doors 2 rollers per door total of 6 rollers at $132 each and he said he would only charge me labor for 1 door at $181.50. This was his high sales pressure trick. I FLAT OUT REFUSED AND SAID NO. This is when I realized they probably make a killing on the rollers, I went online and did some research I found the price range from 5 different suppliers $16.61 to $43.02 that sell the exact same rollers.
The price SFL charged for the rollers really bothered me so I sent an email to the company questioning the rollers. His response was the technician made a mistake. Instead of $132, it should have been $66. What disturbs me the most the Technician took the rollers out of a plastic bag with $132 written on it.
Anybody can make a mistake but he came out to my house a second time and gave me the Wrong price a second time. How can that be?? If I did not question the price I would not have got a refund. I did not like how the person I spoke with on the phone got all defensive almost to the point of him being arrogant. He refunded me $132 for one set of rollers. My Advice shop around and don't be pressured into letting ANYONE do the job immediately regardless of what deal they offer there and then. And question the price. SHOP AROUND.
