My dad had a pretty bad roach infestation and Adam initially came to inspect and get us prepared for what he was going to do. A few days later, he returned and treated the entire house. Almost immediately you could see the impact of that treatment. His professionalism is top notch. His communication and response time is as well. This man will always get my business and he comes highly recommended. Thank you for being a legitimate businessman.

We've had a bit of a problem with cockroaches and found Stephen here on Thumbtack. He was just like everyone said - knowledgable, reliable and thorough but efficient. He took the time to ask questions and really understand our problem and was able to offer multiple suggestions in addition to spraying chemicals to help with roaches and prevent other potential infestations. Very personable, too. A. Viera

My management company uses Pest Pro for all our pest control needs. One of our highrises had a massive pigeon problem - within weeks of his treatment - our balconies are pigeon free - no feathers, no mess. The entire building is ready to give him a medal. Another customer when a tenant moved out had an infestation of roaches. I called him and he set the appointment less than 24 hours later and he arrived on time, treated the property and advised that if we saw any more after 3 days he would come back free of charge. I can go on and on - regarding rat's that had been a problem in another oceanfront building- he told us what to do to prevent them from getting in- he solved that problem. He and his team are amazing and friendly and arrive ON TIME. They are also very reasonable and stand by their work. PEST PRO makes part of my crazy property management life much easier. Thank you PEST PRO.

Jeff, the technician, took time to explain exactly what he was doing and what effect it would have. Price was very reasonable for a one-time spraying for ants and spiders.

I highly recommend Native Pest Management. I moved into a 1920's house that had been vacant before moving in. I had a few different pest issues, primarily roaches. After using two other pest control companies with little success, I found Native. They assured me that they could fix the roach issue. After their first couple of visits, I was still seeing enough roaches to not be satisfied. I contacted them and they immediately responded and set up a time to look at my house again. Since that visit, I have maybe seen one roach in three months. Hallelujah!!! I no longer have to ninja fight roaches throughout my day :)

We experienced multiple pest issues all at once. We were being overrun by ghost aunts, roaches and rats. We tried home remedies and nothing was working. Nothing. Steve, the firm's owner came out. He performed a thorough inspection of our home, gave us a game plan and returned within a few days to implement the plan. He was very diligent in making sure that any entry points for the rats were located and sealed. What he used to kill the ants was magic. I'm absolutely shocked at how quickly we got relief. Had I known that we could get relief so quickly I'd have called him sooner and not tried to struggle, getting rid of these horrible pests on my own. I cannot express my thanks enough.

He came to my house the day after my request. I have had a problem with ants and supposedly roaches in my attic. He sprayed outside, inside all around the house, and used some kind of fan and sprayed in the attic. The charge was $115. Excellent value. And the little ants that were in my kitchen are gone.

Bill Mailloux takes are of all my properties. He is very responsible, has great customer relations skills and makes sure that the job is done right. I recently had my whole Fourplex tented for termite and my primary house fumigated for roaches. Everything was taken care of to perfection. I highly recommend Bill and his team to anyone. I had roaches and ants (and we are NOT dirty people). I tried to get rid of them through the stuff that you buy at big box stores. Even the really expensive stuff that kind of worked didn't last very long. Frustrated, I called Soles exterminating. He was very up front about the process, very reasonably priced (yes, I shopped the competition), and thorough. Anyway, I don't have roaches anymore--not even in my carport shed! And the only ants that I see anymore are outside (even during the rainy season when ants used to come in my house like it was made of candy and the door was open). And, for those of us who find this type of info important, my dog has never once gotten sick after a visit from Soles. And, they even offer different payment options. I saved some money by paying for the year up-front. So, yeah, I STRONGLY recommend Soles Exterminating. They're fantastic!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do pest control companies do?

Pest control companies handle all aspects of bug, rodent and animal extermination or removal. Pest control professionals visit your home or office to identify the type of pest that is troubling you and offer various treatment plans — complete with clearly outlined costs. Once you and the pest control company have a signed agreement, the pro will begin treatment. Pest treatment can range from the use of spray pesticides and gel bait to live and/or kill traps. There are a wide range of types of pesticides, many of them nontoxic for humans and other small animals. This means you may be able to have your home treated for pests without harming nearby wildlife or your dog and cat. The pest control pro will carry out the treatment plan and, depending on the service agreement, provide follow-up such as emptying traps, inspecting access points, or reapplying pesticide spray if the pests return. Costs will vary based on the type of pest you are having removed and the extent of the infestation. The average national pest control price range is $80-$130. From a minor bedbug event to an entire home termite infestation, pest control companies have got you covered.

How much does it cost to remove a mouse?

If you have a mouse in your house you’re probably quickly researching pest control costs. Mice, although tiny, can transmit diseases and also get into your food and leave unsanitary droppings around your home. If you have seen one mouse in your house, it’s likely that more have taken up residence in your crawl space, attic or basement. The national average pest control cost is $150-$200. Costs can vary depending on whether you need to get rid of a population of living mice or just dispose of a dead mouse (or full traps), how extensive the mouse population is, and where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pest control cost for removing a mouse:

  • $150 for initial trap setup and inspection (and sealing of entry holes).
    • $50 for rodent removal service calls and emptying of traps. This visit can also include identifying and sealing entry points that were not sealed on the first visit.
  • Rodent extermination: $110-$350, depending on how heavy the rodent population is, whether the mouse infestation poses health risks, how many entrances exist and how many rodent bait stations are needed.

How much does it cost to treat a house for termites?

Termites are not only creepy-crawly, they can literally eat your house out from underneath you. Termites feed on damp and dry wood and can chomp through your house at an alarming rate. The national average pest control cost for termite extermination is $240-$400. Treatment costs can be higher for an extensive infestation. Here are some examples of average pest control costs for termites:

  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: $3-$4 per linear foot.
    • For $75 per year, a company may offer a maintenance plan that provides inspection of the property and renewal of the warranty.
  • Liquid treatment of subterranean termites: approximately $400 for a 2,000-square-foot home at $3-$5 per linear foot.
    • The price is higher for additional work such as foaming and drilling inside of concrete slabs.
  • Fumigation treatment of drywood termites: $1,200-$1,500 for a 30,000- to 35,000-cubic-foot home
    • Fumigation is measured in cubic feet because it fills the airspace of the home and infiltrates the wood that the termites may be colonizing. The cost of fumigation is affected by the number of levels in the home as well as the square footage.

How much does it cost to get rid of cockroaches?

Cockroaches are not only ugly, they are difficult to get rid of. Quick and resilient, they can be hard to get rid of without professional help once they have inhabited a house. Nationally, the average range for cockroach pest control cost is $80-$130. Extermination professionals typically provide a free estimate to determine the extent of the infestation. They’ll check for the main sources of the bugs, identify bug access and entry points into your home, and determine the best method for elimination. There are a variety of cockroach extermination tools including gel baits and traps, pesticide foggers, desiccants (which dry out the cockroaches), neurotoxins, and other pesticides. Pest control costs can also cover preventive measures like regular spraying and trap maintenance. Some regions of the country are much more prone to cockroach problems than others, so pest control costs may need to be part of your quarterly budget. Cockroaches love dark, humid, and warm areas and water sources, so place traps near your washer and dryer and under your sinks.

How much does it cost to get a pest inspection?

In general there is no cost for a pest inspection. Exterminators typically provide a free property or building inspection and then provide you with a written estimate outlining the necessary treatment and cost. The home visit allows the exterminator to assess the problem and let you know what your pest control cost will be if you contract with their services. You may need a termite inspection for real estate purposes. This will be a verified inspection showing that the house in question is termite-free (often done before a sale). The inspection may cost a flat rate, such as $125-$150, depending on house size.

It’s hard to predict pest control costs sight unseen due to the variety of factors that go into pest treatment. For example, a bedbug problem for one customer may be confined to one room and be easy to access and treat in one visit if the room is clear of clutter and the bedbugs have been caught early. In another home, a bedbug problem may also be confined to one room, but there’s a great deal of clutter, providing more hiding places for the bugs and requiring more spray and labor for the exterminator, as well as many pieces of large furniture in the room that need to sprayed. Depending on the maturity of the infestation, a bedbug problem may require multiple visits to entirely eliminate. This is why many companies provide a free inspection to determine pest control costs and provide you the most accurate quote possible.
