Bruce Holman did an excellent job cleaning the air ducts. He was very efficient and neat while doing his work. Took before and after photos so that I could see the difference. I could also smell the difference with the sanatizers that he added. I would recommend him to everyone. It was very nice to have someone take pride in their work and do it well. Thanks Bruce

A very honest company. Yalel is the owner who works himself. I was quoted $890 by Cool air USA saying that I had a bad blower motor. Yalel came and diced it in under an hour for far less. If you want honest work. Use these guys!!

Thank you for good job! My carpet became looking as new one again. They even painted dirty sports on the ceiling caused by dirty air from an A/C duct.

Absolute Environmental did a great job cleaning our air vents. They were on time and worked quickly and efficiently to get all of the dust and particles out of our air vents and dryer vent. The price was very reasonable, and even less than I was quoted initially. They also were one of the only companies I found that use an environmentally safe product to disinfect the air ducts, which is really important to me, so you don't have to leave the house when they spray it. I would recommend them and hire them again!

My A/C died on Labor Day weekend. I called Kevin from Temp Air on Sunday afternoon. He came right out to diagnose the problem and came back to fix it the next day, which was Labor Day!! This was my 1st experience with Temp Air! I was not a long time customer. I was shocked that he came right over and fixed my unit within 24 hours saving me thousands of dollars!! He did not try to upsell me and did not charge me tea for the holiday! Kevin was very friendly and knowledgeable as well. I would and I have recommended them to anyone in need of an honest, reliable and reasonable A/C company!!'

Eric from EZService did a great cleaning job for our home dryer air duct. He has earned our trust and I would call him again if needed. I would refer him to family and friends in a heart beat. His price was comparable to other companies. Because of his professionalism, great price and punctuality I also hired him for 2 more air duct cleanings for rental properties. Good job Eric!

My AC was not heating up the air when switched it to heat. And I couldn't figure out why ... at 5pm on a Sunday after with the temp predicted to drop to 40 degrees in Broward. Air Repair responded in Thumbtack after I posted. Shalom said it might be a simple fix, in that response. I called him and he agreed to come out, and he was there in about an hour. Waw, this was Sunday evening around 6! Help within an hour! I had the panels for the air handler off because I was trying to fix it myself. Shalom asked a few questions, looked at the system, and then started to hone in on the thermostat ... that I had installed myself a year ago ... yep, that was the problem . . . bad wiring (but the thermostat's instructions told me to do that LOL)! So within 20 mins of being onsite, I had warm air! And no extravagant bill for unnecessary repairs (although my system is about 15 years old). Shalom was very prompt, professional, nice and he fixed it!!! And at a reasonable price too. I still have my arms and legs. Of course, I would hire him again and recommend him to others. Ty. Thank you Air Repair and Shalom. May G_d bless you for your great work in helping me out. Ty.

AC wasn't working when I got home last night. Made a project request looking for a 24hr AC company not thinking someone from here would reach out so late but he did. RA Appliance Service responded to me and I called Rolando and I told him the issue I was having. That the outside unit wasn't turning on. Inside was just blowing warm air. He told me what to check for on the outside unit and after doing so he advised to turn off the AC unit off, so I wouldn't burn the outside motor. It started to rain and lightning, lucky it cooled off a bit. He advised he would be at my home early in the a.m. which was OK for me. (He made me feel comfortable, so I wouldn't be worrying what to do in the morning.) He came on time as he said he would. My unit is about 15 years old and he didn't try to upsell me and tell me to get a new one. He fixed what needed to be fixed, showed me the part that was burnt. A true Professional and very affordable, friendly. Would definitely recommend. PS: I called a few other companies on google that say they are 24 hr before making this project request. What a waste of time...

We had a great experience with Anthony. He showed up on time (even on a Sunday morning!), did exactly what he said he would do, and cleaned up after he was done. We had several damaged ducts that needed replacing. We’re going to hire him again to replace the stand our air handler is on that was incorrectly installed in the first place by by Ambassador Air.

Efran is very knowledgeable and professional. My old AC stopped blowing cold air and the first company I asked told me the only solution is to change the entire unit which would cost almost $3000c and in addition need to rent a crane because the roof access was too small. I wanted to have a second opinion so I called Efran. He gave three options based on our budget which are 1) install a new AC, 2) change only the outdoor part and 3) get a used AC and replace some parts. We went with the second option, which saved us a lot of money. He took the new unit in parts so we didn’t have to rent a crane. He also fixed my loud fridge within minutes. I will definitely use efran again.

Jose arrived at my home and quickly resolved the issue with my ac unit! On the same day, later that night, my air-conditioners fan broke and damaged the motor in the ac unit. Jose came right back the following morning and repaired it quickly and at a great price. I love that he had parts in his truck and I didn’t have to wait. Jose was friendly knowledgeable and I will definitely be calling him again! He’s the best!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. How often should you get your air ducts cleaned?

How often you should clean your air ducts depends on your situation. If you or someone in the home has asthma or is acutely allergic to certain airborne materials or pollen, regular duct cleaning may be helpful. The Environmental Protection Agency doesn’t have an official position on the necessity of air duct cleaning unless the ducts have been contaminated by rodents, insects or mold, or you are aware of particles blowing out through the vents. The EPA recommends you have your air ducts cleaned on an as-needed basis. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) suggests having air ducts cleaned every three to five years.

Be cautious with companies that offer “whole house air duct cleaning,” urges the NADCA. The company may be using unscrupulous tactics to upsell you once they get started. Before any work begins, always clarify in writing what the job entails and what the cost will be. To protect yourself against fraud, read customer reviews and verify that your HVAC cleaning service has applicable licenses and certifications.

What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

Do you need to clean your air ducts?

Air duct cleaning is done by heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) professionals. The pros use industrial-strength, truck-mounted vacuums and powerful brushes and hoses to clean inside the metal ducts that make up your forced air heating and cooling system. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends duct cleaning if there is “substantial visible mold growth inside hard surface ducts, ducts that are infested with vermin such as rodents or insects, or ducts that are clogged with excessive amounts of dust and debris and/or particles are actually released into the home from your supply registers.”

You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
