Pick Up Movers were early to arrive and got the job done fast and efficiently. We moved to a third floor walk up and I was by myself that day. I am very grateful for their diligent work. We were moving big, heavy items from two places. Everything arrived in the shape that it left. We also received a furniture delivery through Pick Up Movers and experienced the same high standard of work. I would recommend them to anyone with a difficult move and we will be using their services for future deliveries as well.

Ryan and Milton both arrived promptly on time. They wrapped all of the pictures and large electronics in proper padding and secured them within the truck. There was a very heavy entertainment unit that they made light work of. They were humorous guys and both had a good work ethic. I was glad that my wife, friends and I had everything pre-packed because they came in ready to move! Definitely give Dave @ Dixie Movers a call if you are in South Florida.

The two movers did a super job moving all of my office furniture and boxes. They worked very fast running up and down stairs and they made lifting all the heavy pieces look easy! The desks and wall units had to be taken apart and they put it all back together perfectly. Great customer service by the owner!

I am beyond ecstatic to write this review for Darren and his partner Mike. For starters, I scored a last-minute furniture deal that required an immediate move the next day. The move had to take place in the middle of the work day, in a highly secure building at Brickell Miami (known for high rises, tight security, and no parking). Upon searching for help, I came across The Group, Inc., who provided me with a quote and was actually able to get the job done at the last minute. I received the quote late the night before and spoke with Darren early the next morning to confirm the details. Darren assured me that he would rearrange his schedule to accommodate my last-minute move request. Needless to say, Darren and his team communicated with me throughout the day and came within the expected window time frame as promised. Darren had many obstacles to deal with such as high security areas, small maneuvering spaces, a hard-pressed move time deadline from the building, no furniture coverings (which he later improvised), and his other scheduled jobs still waiting. On top of that, he had to head back to Broward County in traffic to delivery my furniture to my home. I initially considered taking on this move by myself with my partner, however, I am grateful that I did not move forward with that plan. The furniture definitely required heavy lifting and multiple people at that. The time alone I saved from not missing too much work to assure the move was initiated successfully and no added physical stress was priceless, thus making Darren's service price well worth what he was offering. Thankfully, my furniture arrived at my home in the same condition it was picked up in. Darren and Mike did a great job re-assembling the furniture, much like they did initially to disassemble it. That among other things proved to be invaluable. I am highly appreciative of the services rendered. Darren and Mike came through in the clutch, with much patience, strength, diligence, and carefulness. I would highly recommend them to anyone for services and will use them again in the future. Thank you.

Cory and his team are absolutely wonderful!! They were very professional, always showed up on time and did a fantastic job, that did not cost us our life savings! They painted the exterior of the entire house, replaced the rotted wood and installed new porch lights in the front of our home. They also rehung a heavy wooden gate door and hauled away unwanted bricks from our property. Corey is very good with communication and always answered back quickly. I will definitely be using them again in the future.

I was in dire need of dependable movers to help me with heavy lifting, furniture moving, boxing, packing, discarding items, and other misc. tasks associated with a move. I was in an extreme time crunch due, and I was grateful that a google search led me to Michael's Moving company. I did the google search on Saturday, and he promptly replied to me via Thumbtack. After he assessed my needs, I was quickly confirmed for the next day. I was mentally and physically exhausted due to the move, and I really needed help. I highly recommend this company to help you with your moving needs, and other tasks associated with moving. Thank you again for your professionalism and efficient business.

I used Progressive Relocation for a very short distance move. We moved to another apartment just a few blocks away from our previous apartment. But there were few problems. Movers had to use the stair ways and they had to deal with my dogs as well. But when I saw them doing the heavy lifting very carefully and without any complain I understood that they are real professionals and they mean business. They made the move look so easy and smoothly accomplished the entire task. I thank them for a fair price, great service and especially for being so nice with my dogs.

Nothing would be enough to thank G8 van lines for the deal that they offered and for the service that they delivered. I have become a fan of this company after what they did during my move. Before using this company, I never had a good experience regarding move but they simply changed the game!! I had a feel that they are far better than any other movers when I spoke with their sales rep Mark. Later their movers came and proved me right. They had the complete control over the situation. Though there were few odds but the movers had the innovative ways to avoid those odds. They were focused, committed, fast, accurate, polite and very friendly. They finished the job before the schedule and were able to deliver me a picture perfect move. I was wondering to see them lifting and moving the heavy furniture effortlessly. Thanks a lot guys for being so active.

Just yesterday I used Remax van lines for my move. I got their number from my friend who is a regular customer of them. When I was discussing my move with them, I felt that they would be able to manage my move though it was not an easy move to manage. There were many things needed to be packed and moved and I was very worried. But the movers did a great job lifting the heavy furniture and other stuffs using the very narrow stair ways from the 6th floor to all the way down. It was great to have a timely and smooth move. I also felt that they charged me very reasonable.

I needed to move completely out of my home for 10 days to refinish my floors. Your company moved everything to my garage & some to our rental house. Then 10 days later you came & moved me back into my house with my new floors. Your company was prompt, professional & careful with my furnishings & new floors. The 2 men were strong & very efficient. I could not have asked for more delightful, respectful & careful movers. The job was done perfectly!! I will definitely recommend your company & use you again if I need to move. I'm not capable of lifting heavy furniture & your services allowed me to reorganize & move things that otherwise I could not have done. Your estimate was exact & I got what I expected which a rare thing in today's world!! Thanks National Relocation Van Lines....

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

    • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
    • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
    • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
    • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
    • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
