Dell was excellent, he was very knowledgeable and honest and fair. I had a mango tree that I asked specifically for them to prune it so I can fruit better. Our tree has been doing great since and is growing like crazy on the top of the canopy. You can definitely tell that him and his crew are hard-working folks and get the job done as fast as possible as soon as they step on your property. I will definitely hire him again for any of my tree or waste removal needs. I'm very satisfied with the job!

We just moved into our house and we have a courtyard in front of our home that was half over grown and half dead. Quang came over and looked it over with great care. He was very knowledgable about all the types of foliage and made some very good common sense recommendations. The main one was to first clean up and prune the area. Plants I thought were dead, he said were alive and just needed some care! I really appreciated this. It was really the smart thing to do. I was ready to pull everything out and start over. Long story short, the courtyard is clean and trimmed BEAUTIFULLY! Thank you Quang!

Hired Frank Lawn Care Inc. to prune 90 Lychee trees. Came in the day they were scheduled and in two days finished the job. they even came the next day to check and make sure everything was okay since when they finished the day before it was already dark. The employees were very courteous and Frank and his brother Lazaro were awesome. Left everything clean and piles of mulch spread around the base of the trees. Will recommend very highly!

Carlos Diaz responded quickly and arranged to visit the property and give an estimate for the work. He appeared very knowledgeable, answering all questions to the complete satisfaction of my property manager, especially regarding the regulations for tree pruning. Once I accepted the estimate, he and his team got the work done within a couple of days. I am very pleased with Melkris' work.

The landscapers finished the job as requested and went beyond the original call. Since they did so a good job I asked to do more pruning and removal of dead trees. They removed and placed all debris in the trash area for me. Happy with the work done.

Many of the lawn services I had in the past provided limited services, Green Attention is a full service company and included planting and maintenance of my fruit trees. I never realized what a poor job my previous landscapers was doing until I hired Lu. On their first day they were here a long time removing dead leaves under bushes, hand weeding and pruning trees along with the normal lawn service. Lu is very professional and his prices are great! My neighbor hired him also. I totally recommend this company you will not regret it.

The best possible experience. He called quickly, arrived an hour later and the two worked tirelessly for hours, pruning, cutting down damaged trees, tall ornamentals front, side, and backyard. Cleared and loaded ALL branch debris, tree stumps, garden edging material, broken pots in black bags, raked, swept, leaving my property cleared and clean. I plan to arrange a regular maintenance service with Tcobbs. Thank you Ty and thank you Thumbtack. You helped relieve tension from this past week's events!

The project included pruning 5 live oak trees, and cutting back an overgrown ficus tree next to FP&L power lines and transformer. Sage did an outstanding job, they did what they said they were going to do when they said they were going to do it. More importantly they did a great job of cleaning up the debris. I am going to have them prune my trees annually.

I have used Cutter Joe/Robert for over a year. The level of service Robert provides is far and beyond my expectations. The quality of work produced by Robert should be held as an example for other landscaping companies to emulate. He demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to excellence and always goes the extra mile. Robert does cosmetic work. He is a skilled, experienced professional that provides high standard landscaping quality, as well as true crew leader who guides, instructs and keeps a close eye on his team. He provides clients with superior service which is hard to find these days. Robert and his crew have always been polite, professional, courteous, friendly, easy to work with, trustworthy. I have always appreciated the attention Robert pays to and his genuine concern that the client is satisfied. What particularly impresses me is that no matter how big or small one of my projects is, Robert approaches it with a level of high standard. I have a large Ficus hedge that Robert has sculpted like an artist to give it a beveled cut and his results are consistent. He does a phenomenal job, people stop to admire his work. He is a true hedge trimming expert. Robert not only mows the lawn but he manicures it to the highest standards, leaving the lawn looking like a beautiful carpet. And when he doesn’t do the mowing he makes sure to stay on top of his crew to achieve the same results. He also possess an incredible knowledge on plant variety and thus is able to offer clients explanations, alternative suggestions and rational choices. He knows when plants need trimming, pruning, when to use hand pruners, saw or machete. I wanted privacy around my pool and Robert did a tremendous job creating a privacy wall for me with the most beautiful, huge Clusias. Everyone admires my wall, they say it’s awesome. I wanted a cascading wall along the property in my front yard and Robert did an outstanding job creating it for me. I have to give Robert credit for his immense patience with me, I drive him crazy with my projects, ideas, photos, questions. Anyone that hires Cutter Joe/Robert will be impressed. I highly recommend Cutter Joe/Robert. My house has never looked so good. People, neighbors stop by to admire my property and it feels good. Heizel S.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
