Adrian and Scott did a fantastic job moving my house. It was on the third floor and the hottest summer in a while (this past weekend). There was hardly anything damaged in that move and they were absolutely polite and great-spirited. I would recommend Mike's Moving to anyone looking for a local move.

American Movers Orlando moved some furniture around our house for us and also took a piano from our home and moved it to my son's home across town. I have brand new WHITE polished floors and they took care not to damage or get the floors even dirty. They were fast, and professional. I will use them again if I have a move.

If we could give more stars we would. The team at Dyamic Moving Solutions are extremely professional, very quick, very careful but at the same time very fun and interactive! The move took less than 2 hours and the gentlemen even offered to move additional items that we had planned on moving ourselves. Highly recommend and will never use a different moving company again! Thanks guys!

I hired Mr Sasso's company to get some much needed help building some complex IKEA furniture on a Sunday after I injured my wrist moving the day before. While he was already booked for the day, to my amazement, he split his crew and sent me Jesse and Raphael. Again, on a Sunday, from a same day call, he sent me help just 4 hours later - incredible service. While they spoke little English (which he let me know would be the case in advance; I can make do in Spanish) their work was extraordinary and well beyond the call of duty. They were incredibly careful and respectful of the home, spotted two defects I myself had missed (now exchanged) and brought all their own tools; even add on stuff like drywall anchors. I'd have those two back any day of the week.

This week I put out a bid on Thumbtack to get a table I'd bought off Craigslist moved from the seller's house to my in-laws. I'm moving down to the Orlando area later this month, and the table had to be moved before then. I was in a tight spot. I put out a bid on Thumbtack and another site and received around 10 in short order. For a smaller job - just moving a table and chairs - most places quoted me over $300. Thomas Sankara Moving cut that price in half. I was pretty nervous, given that I'd not hired someone off of here before, but it could not have gone smoother. Right from the start, Quincy was helpful and courteous, assuring me they could and would get the job done, even with a few extra considerations I needed (I asked if they could pay the seller up front, and then my in-laws pay them on the back end). They arrived the next day, promptly, at the seller's home. She said they "could not have been more professional." A half hour later, my mother-in-law phoned me to let me know they'd been so nice and done such a great job that she asked for a business card. I can assure you, I was nervous. The bid was low, and I figured there was a chance I'd made a mistake. I did not. Hire these guys and they'll make sure you get what you need.

These guys are by far the best movers that I have ever dealt with! They showed up on time and worked very fast without damaging a single piece of furniture or any of my possessions. They are friendly, professional and go above and beyond to get the job done right. I felt the price they quoted me was too low for the quality of service I received and since I have a lot of stuff I actually paid them more because they are that good! :-) I will definitely be recommending this company to all of my friends and family. Moving is a nightmare and they make it so much easier. Thanks again guys!

Very responsive. Asked permission before entering my property to make sure I was okay with him beginning work because I had not yet gotten home. It was almost done by the time I got home. Cleaned up after himself and left nothing but a very clean gutter and work area. Would highly recommend.

Ekomovers matched my price with another moving company and offered a faster pick up and delivery date. Excellent customer service and even delivered a day early. Randy was very professional contacting me and getting the contract together within a day turnaround. Setra and Jose did an excellent job packing my belongings in Orlando and transporting everything to Harrisburg with no damage. I would highly recommend for people to use Ekomovers.

Our team showed up an hour and a half late which put us in a bind for beginning our long drive home to Huntsville, Al. However, once they did arrive they dove into the task, and we had a wonderful experience working with Eugene and his Strongman Movers team from then on. Taking pity on us I think, they worked ferociously to get us packed up and on the road, packing up and loading a single bedroom apartment worth of furniture and boxes in just under one hour!! We used the website ThumbTack to identify, evaluate, and select a moving company in Orlando to help me (70 years old) and my youngest brother (65) load a single bedroom apartment's worth of furniture and boxes for my brother's move to Huntsville after 43 years as a Disney employee. Their professionalism easily removed almost all of the stress typically associated with household moves and transformed the experience nearly into fun!! Great company with a great staff! We will gladly recommend Strongman Movers to any and all needing relocation services.

Anthony did an excellent job in clearing out the bushes in front of my home as well as cutting a major root from a tree that was going under my home. He was quick to respond to my request and provided me a very competitive quote. He was professional and punctual and I could not ask for better service. I heartily endorse Anthony for any of your landscaping needs. I could not be happier with the results.

These guys are awesome. I couldn't believe how easy it was. Went on Thumbtack and requested a quote from them, and minutes later Scott called me up and got me setup for the next day. It really was easy to get setup. To top it off, they offer a very clear and simple pricing structure. No hidden fees or anything. What was really solid was the fact that if your movers finish before the time you're booked for, you get prorated for only the time they took. The movers are punctual and very friendly. Mike Surdis and Sondisa Obie helped me out for my job, these guys are on point and didn't have any problems at all moving my furniture. I moved into my new place downtown and these guys got the job done very quickly, as we were minutes away from getting caught in the rain. They are very friendly and I'm a recent graduate so it was cool helping out fellow students. Easily the most hassle free moving experience I've had to endure, I'm recommending this service to all of my friends who are also recent grads that need movers in the area. Thanks guys.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
