We have been working with Bethany for a month now. She is very professional and personally she is a delight to work with. She is positive and motivating and has a kind, patient and encouraging manner. She comes well prepared with a multitude of different exercises to keep one interested and challenged, and not bored. On the first visit, we discussed our physical needs/desires and on the second visit, she discussed nutrition and provided us with charts, menus and shopping lists to eat clean and healthy to maximize the benefits from our workouts. This was most impressive. She is wonderful!

Jenn is really great! I am 31 years old and in fairly good shape but I was needing some guidance in my workouts. I am not much of a gym goer and do not really enjoy working out with machines. Jenn comes to my house, she brings her own equipment, yet she is very flexible to and willing to go to your own gym as well. I have been working with her once a week since the New Year and she has taught me so much already. She has a very gentle approach yet pushing me to my goal. She is a great nutritionist, not the lecturing type, and feels like you are talking to a long time friend who has a genuine interest in you and your health. She definitely deserves all 5 of these stars!

I've seen at least 3 other nutritionists in the last 20 years with no hope of getting my husband to go AND no desire to go back to any of them. Natalia is the exception! My husband and I have been seeing Natalia for the past 4 years and have had only good results. We both are aware that change comes from within however having Natalia helping us to obtain our goals makes the change happen. I think so much of Natalia I've hired her to help my daughter on her path to healthy living, which has helped her tremendously. Have the 3 of us fallen off the wagon, absolutely, but we also get back on the wagon which is not something we used to do. Thank you Natalia for being a precious part of our family.

I came to Briana because I wanted to drop some pounds from the mid section. Briana not only listened and respected my goals, but helped me achieve a healthier lifestyle. So I lost the extra pounds in the midsection in the healthiest way possible, but now I also know how to choose the right food to eat. Plus her plethora of healthy and inexpensive recipes didn't make me feel like I was on some gross nutrition deprived diet. Matter of fact In the beginning I had to ask her if I could eat less! I have NEVER felt this good in my life.

Sarah came to our house to meet with my husband and me, which was so convenient. She was thorough and didn't rush us through the information gathering. Sarah provided us very simple, realistic suggestions and adjustments that will help us reach out goals. I really feel that her education and experience increased our confidence and allowed her to provide facts and real life examples. Not every diet works for every person and she recognizes that. I really appreciate Sarah and we're so glad to have found her.

Nicole is absolutely amazing! I am a vegan who needed to gain weight and she spent a lot of time learning about me and my goals before making recommendations. Once she understood me, she tailored a plan that was both easy to follow and delicious. She continues to consult with me and provide new ideas and insights. I learned so much about how to properly fuel my body with whole plant based foods and have taken her advice to better improve my eating habits and exercise habits. I would highly recommend Nicole for anyone interested in a compassionate and knowledgeable nutritionist that looks at the whole picture to help people improve their lives..

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Are nutritionists covered by health insurance?

Nutrition counseling can be a critical component of good health care, especially for people recently diagnosed with diabetes or high cholesterol who need to adhere to a specific diet. People also meet with nutritionists for help developing a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet, developing an eating plan to lose weight or gain muscle, or improving their sports performance by changing their diet. Nutritionists may be covered by health insurance depending on your reason for meeting with them. Nutrition counseling is more likely to be covered if it is part of a doctor-prescribed treatment for a particular medical condition, such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or coronary heart disease. For example, Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy services only for people diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease, as long as they get a referral from their doctor. Also, insurance providers more often cover nutrition visits if the patient has been referred to a registered dietitian within the carrier’s network of providers. Insurance plans vary greatly, so research your benefits before visiting a nutritionist.

How much does a nutritionist cost?

A nutritionist provides expertise and guidance to help clients with all diet-related health matters, including losing weight, gaining muscle, improving their sports performance, and managing diabetes or high cholesterol. Nutritionists can help people learn to follow special diets in a healthy way, such as becoming vegetarian or vegan or developing a low-sodium or gluten-free eating plan. The average national cost of a nutritionist is $60 to $100. Nutritionists often require an initial consultation with a new client, during which they’ll take a medical history, assess the client’s nutritional needs, and determine the best course of action; this first meeting usually averages $100-$120 for a 45-minute to 90-minute consultation. Subsequent nutritional counseling sessions generally cost less, ranging from an average of $45 for a half-hour session to $60-$90 for a one-hour session. Like many professional service providers, nutritionists may offer discounts through package pricing. For instance, a one-month package with two sessions and email support costs an average of $190; a three-month package with three sessions and email support costs an average of $360; and a six-month package with six sessions and email support costs an average of $540.
