Donald arrived on time, prepared to do the job and finish early, not to mention- extremely reasonable!! The reviews for the desk all said 4-6 hours... Don was completed in just over 3. Don was easy to talk to, knowledgeable, and got the job done the right way the first time. He never complained despite multiple set backs and offered insight in to functionality of my new desk. He ultimately turned a pile of wood (100 pieces) in to a desk. I would recommend him over all the others I've worked with on thumbtack!

I think Julio did a good job. He's very polite & professional. He tiled my laundry room & rerouted the water pipes to accommodate my new washer. He also did some work on my air conditioner. He also cleaned the laundry room floor which to be honest was filthy due to my dogs.

I read all the reviews for this company and of the 3 choices thumbtack sent me, selected this one. I'm usually a word-of-mouth client, so hesitant to contract through thumbtack. Frank visited our home to review the job with no strings attached. His manner was professional and his skill and knowledge obvious. The revised thumbtack quote was too high for our budget, so Frank offered to return for a second visit to take out extras from a basic painting job (i.e. exclude painting of chair rail, frames, doors & adding crown moulding). His revised quote allowed for 5 different colors for 8 areas so we discussed mixing and matching. He was patient to work through this and offered advice, such as which of the 4 bedroom walls would have the accent color; and which color would be better below the chair rail in the main living areas and which above it. We appreciated the time he spent to discuss the painting plan. It was a bonus that wall repair was included in the quote. Frank completed the work in 4.5 days; to us that was record time. He worked diligently and expertly. He would advise us each afternoon of the spaces he would work on the next day; this allowed me to plan which part of the home to occupy. He showed up at a similar early time each morning soon after sunrise and left before dusk each day. This schedule worked out well for us. His guarantee of beautiful paint, smooth finish, two coats, all rang true. We were so pleased that by the 4th paint day we contracted with Frank to lay the special order hardwood flooring which arrived during the painting job on day 3. So he adjusted his schedule to then work 4.5 additional days in a row to lay the flooring in the same rooms he had just completed painting. Again, he followed a careful plan for laying out the cork base, then laying out the wood pieces, matching up color differences, separating out scratched pieces to cut for small spaces so the scratched areas became scrap, before starting the actual laying. He set up two outdoor sawing stations on each end of the home. We took pictures of both jobs as they were being completed, work in progress, and he did not mind any interruption. Along the way over these 9 days he assisted with small tasks such as moving the refrigerator for cleaning behind, discussing the type of kitchen cabinet knobs to install, and took down two track lights and one bathroom light at our request to apply the ceiling paint under those fixtures. He removed about 70 outlet covers of all types: phone, plug, switches, data ports, to paint behind, but unfortunately for us, left the task of replacing the new ones we purchased to move on to the flooring. We are so pleased with the quality of the workmanship and his professional manner that we are now asking for a quote for exterior painting. This was our first experience contracting through an electronic gateway; it worked out very well for us. We will recommend Frank to anyone who is in the market. Frank is welcome to attach photos of the finished project.

Overall Building Dreams Tile and Floor was able to deliver exactly what we needed at the right price. When we built our house we did continuous floor from the front door through 3/4 of our home. We did carpet in the final section. We decided we wanted to continue the tile. We purchased all the material, just needed someone to remove carpet and install tile. Carlos was very responsive and answered our questions. Claubert did the work and had a high level of detail in regards to the tile work. We ran into two communication / work challenges. One was the baseboard. Carlos communicated they would take up the baseboard. Claubert took up some but not all. My husband would have likely taken it all off himself if he knew they weren't going to take it all off. Second was timing. We expected they would tile on day 1 and return on day 2 for grout. They ended up tiling about 3/4 on day one and finished remaining and all grout on the second day which my husband had some concerns because the tile wouldn't set before the grout was put on but seemed to work out. The first day two guys worked ~11am-6pm. The second day Claubert was by himself from 8am-8pm. My husband did caulk and paint the baseboard once they were finished. Overall we are really happy with the final product and the work was exactly what we needed! We would hire them again.

Hired them to remove popcorn sealing, add texture, paint sealing and walls and do floors. Removing lights while doing sealing and putting them back and cleaning all mass was included. They are almost 4 weeks behind the schedule. There are a lot of little things they forgot to finish. Didn't properly cleaned after themself. I with my wife had to clean floors, almost every corner had a little bit grout left. All doors and windows were covered with texture from the sealing and walls and they were supposed to clean it, we couldn't wait no longer and we just cleaned ourself. They didn't put back vent covers and chandelier in dining room and there are still baseboards missing in dining room and closets. And today when I asked the guy if he could put new chandelier that I bought instead of an old one, he said: "$65!" I answered to that with: "Just put the old one back". Not reliable, not punctuated

I could not have asked for a better person to do our job. We were looking to put in a vinyl plank floor in our fairly large bedroom. I contacted Gerson and he was out to do an estimate for us within 2 days. He even went as far as to research vinyl flooring before doing our install! We also had some leftover wood laminate floor and wanted to install in a spare bedroom,Gerson installed it the next morning. Clean ,professional work and all while smiling even though he worked for close to 14 hours!! Would hire again anytime

Schnaider really saved the day for us. After we botched our own engineered hardwood floors with our own DIY he came out to fix them. He got out all of the scratches and fixed the staining. Floors look wonderful! I was not sure they could even be saved! They look gorgeous now. He was on time and worked very hard. Efficient and friendly. He was also gave us the best price out of 14 quotes. He is a perfectionist and our family will only be using Absolutely Floors in the future for our flooring projects.

So I hired 3 floor guys to repair my whole living room floor and I’m here to tell you these guys were the real deal. I was highly impressed by the work Ruben and his guys did, they were punctual every time and I couldn’t be more satisfied with the work. They were very responsible as a whole and the price seemed very right for the work load. I would definitely be calling here guys for any other floor repairs I may need. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
