A Paw Above has provided a dog walker for me for the past week since I injured my back. The dog walker is friendly and my dog likes her. Good experience overall. Very quick to respond.

Our dog, Frodo, came back completely drained of energy from having soooo much funny with Blue! It was such a nice sight to see how well Frodo and Blue got along. Wanda was true to her word. She said she would treat him like he was her own, and she did. Outstanding job. Highly recommended for anyone!

Andrea was literally an angel. My dog (Sadie) was diagnosed with cancer over the summer and has not been groomed since before her diagnosis. Andrea was kind and patient as she worked through Sadie's tangles. She was amazing. I am so thankful - my baby looks so beautiful. Thank you SO much!

It was obvious that Kat loves dogs and, if my dog could talk, he would tell us he loved being with Love at first Sit. Our dog is very energetic and the facility was exactly what he needed. I wouldn't hesitate to have him boarded there again.

Trustworthy, reliable, and affordable. I have never used a dog walking service before and couldn't be happier that I found Smooch Your Pooch on the first try. They have helped us on short notice, are always on time, and promptly respond to all our requests. And most importantly, our dogs love them! You can stop your search now. We had Vivian come to help us with our new dog, Max. We adopted him. He is 2-3 years of age. In just one lesson she taught us how to walk him so that he knows we are the Alpha. When my husband walked him this way for the first time, Max got it imm

Mona is a natural dog person who has added to her great instincts with lots of education about dogs and dog behavior. She immediately connected with my dog and was patient and also a good leader, and I could tell my pup was more confident and comfortable around her. I would trust Mona with my animals and I would recommend that others trust her, too. Your animals are in good hands with Mona!

Katie's company has provided dog walking services for me since 2005. But that services goes far beyond just walking my dogs. I have rescued dogs that have unique personalities resulting from their time without human contact. Katie and her employee, Tami, have always provided excellent service. I have, on occasion, been away overnight and am very happy that my dogs can stay in the home with Katie and Tami caring for them. Both Katie and Tami are always on time, monitor the dogs to identify any potential problems, keep me apprised of those problems, and keep me advised of any activity that takes place around my home. I think of Katie and Tami as friends, rather than service providers. I trust both of them implicitly. My dogs mean the world to me and I know that I could not provide better care for the dogs than Katie and Tami provide for them. I cannot identify anything they could do better. I simply cannot praise them, their caring and compassion, and their dedication enough.

Not only did Sheryl take great care of our Dog's, she loved them and spent time with them above and beyond anything I could have ever expected. Sheryl took in our mail and cared for them as if they were her own. She also minded a couple of our little critters (Bunny and Guinea) for just a bit more. The best thing of all was her character and trust. You knew they were with the best person they could possibly be with and they would be safe when we got home. Sheryl is the only sitter I would ever use. It even say's on Thumbtack that she elected to go through a background check. WOW. Sheryl texted pictures of the boys to us as well. Really top notch. I would trust her with my daughter and I'm a picky Daddy. We love you Sheryl and the Dog's miss you too.

I have a full house. When you have two kids, five animals, a full-time job, and a husband.. there just isn't enough time in the day. By the time I got home with the kids, there was always a mess. The 2 dogs had either gotten into something or ripped something to shreds, so after dealing with this for far too long I decided I needed help. I had initially found out about Mae through a neighbor and so I decided to hire her to walk our two dogs for a couple days or so - to see how it went. She was wonderful! Mae came to my home for free to to meet the dogs, as well as sit and discuss exactly what I was looking for. I won't ever forget how warm and polite she was! She was very professional. I have a Mastiff and a little Shih Tzu, who are best buds but can be quite a handful to walk at the same time. I will say that she handles the two together quite well. Now I've been having her come everyday Mon-Fri to walk the dogs in the afternoon Mon-Fri. I couldn't be happier with Mae and Pink Pet Care!

I hired Mitch to care for my 3 Lhaso Apsos for 2 weeks during a recent trip to Norway and I couldn't be happier. He was recommended by an old sitter and I thought him to be very professional, conscientious and one who was very responsible to the needs of my girls. My neighbors told me that he was there several times a day as I had asked and that he was 'protective' of them as they met him during walks with their own dogs. He is an animal lover, a volunteer, a father and a real nice person. He is also bonded and licensed. Several of my neighbors asked me for his card when I returned and I gladly gave it to them. I would hire Mitch again, definitely!

Ty is truly awesome! We hired her to walk my mom's dog and she has been extremely kind and conscientious from the start. But what has made her truly special is her initiative to go above and beyond the call of duty. Since the dog was having many accidents at home, Tai researched and recommended options for trying to train him, offering to help with theses efforts. Similarly, when the dog was barking and disturbing residents where my mom lives, Tai once again researched and implemented tools to help address the issue. Of note, she also lent us her dog bark collar to help with the situation. What's more, when we asked her if it would be possible to take the dog to her house for a period of time to help train him, she was more than happy to do so. We feel incredibly lucky to have found Tai--not only does she responsibly provide the dog walking service we originally hired her for, but she gladly and pro-actively helps with all of my mom's dog's needs...more than we ever expected!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
