Polo and Carlos were just EXCEPCIONAL!! In. Moment of total desperation (two days withoutAC) and two companies that were about to rip me off, I was very lucky and happy to find Polo here. Polo came to my help one hour after I contacted him, took all necessary measurements and explained everything to me step by step. It is without a doubt the best AC tech I have had. Honest, reliable, professional, very humble guy, and most importantly his main concern was that I was satisfied and happy with the installation of the new central AC unit which I’m totally happy. Polo will be coming back to now service my unit and I will not hesitate to recommend him to my friends and family. Polo was just AWESOME!!

Michael was very professional, friendly, and communicative. He came out same day on short notice and did a great job relocating a dryer vent at a reasonable price. He explained the process clearly and pointed out any potential issues and recommendations. I recommend him and would definitely use him again if the need arises.

This is the 2nd time I have used Roy's services. Both times resulted in great experiences. He was timely, was quick and identified the problems. The first time he cleaned the coils, drain line flush, sanitize duct system, A/C tune-up. 2nd time my fan control board shorted out and caused the A/C to stop working. I called Roy the next day. He came out, saw the problem....got the parts and fixed my A/C. He is a friendly guy and very knowledgeable about his work. He is the guy you need to call for all your A/C concerns.

The installer came out and fully inspected my old AC system. He was extremely knowledgeable and identified several problems with my old system and was able to clearly explain all the pros of replacing my old units which were 15 years old. We decided to move forward with the new installation of both units a 4 ton and 3.5 ton and I can say my home is so much more comfortable and the units Freddy installed and the level of detail he pay attention to is unmatched. I can see that he takes pride in doing the job correctly and I would highly recommend Freddy for removing and replacing your A/C

Nick at Vizcaya did a major renovation as well as fix a variety of items. He designed and built a brand new kitchen and 2nd bathroom. Included cabinets, granite countertops, plumbing, redesign of kitchen and bathroom. The entire house was painted, new floors installed, fixtures replaced throughout the house, new ceiling fans, lights, and impact window added. Exterior painting, stucco and roof work. Everything came out excellent. From the beginning Nick was a pleasure to work with. He was very responsive and he was very detailed. He was able to get every part of the project done with his team of contractors. His prices were fair and he was very consultative throughout the process. He brainstormed ideas and discussed everything as he worked on the house. Including pictures, brochures and ideas for all the work. In the end the process went very smoothly, he went above and beyond to make me happy and have the project done right. I would recommend Nick for any of your projects big and small. He is very professional and will do what it takes to get the job done right. The fact I live out of state, working with Nick was actually easier then when I have had to work with contractors in my own area.

I had a buildup of gunk and dust inside my ductwork, every time i would get home my nose would start to get itchy . I tried everything from new cleaning products to special hypoallergenic filters you name it I did it. I called those other guys you know your w is hot guys. They looked around for about 10 min and recommend so much stuff I mean it was well over a few thousand dollars. I new My A/c system was less than 2 years old !!! They just wanted my money. Well a friend of mine recommend jesse. He came over and asked me what the problem was he inspected my system. He recommended a duct cleaning. I told him what the other guys recommended he said with all honesty your system is less than 2 years old what you need is a duct cleaning just think about what is lurking inside your ducts. my A/c system was new but my ductwork wasn't. . Safe to say to say jesse was right. he went as far as to build a special machine to really get inside of my ductwork at no extra charge . This guy is honest!! he really took his time to get to the root of my problem. From now on I only use him for all of my A/c needs

I have been using Masco for about ten years or so. They are absolutely top notch. On one of their visits they were out to repair my stovetop. Before the technician left, he looked at my new side by side and told me he wanted to check something. He checked the manufacturer's label and then informed me that there was a recall on the freezer side door. Even though I hadn't been having any trouble with it, he told me he could replace it while the recall was still in effect just to avoid having to pay for any future problems that might arise. He did this at no cost to me. And when the new door came, complete with a new ice dispenser, he told me to keep the old ice dispenser in the event I would ever need to replace it as they are fairly expensive. I have always been very impressed with this company, they're reliable, timely and fair.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

How much does it cost to have your furnace cleaned?

To keep your furnace in good working order it’s important to have it regularly cleaned. The national average furnace cleaning cost ranges from $60 to $80, though prices can vary greatly based on where you live in the country and what your furnace maintenance includes. An HVAC company may have different rates for different levels of furnace maintenance. For example, one company may offer general furnace maintenance for $79 and advanced maintenance for $138. Another company may offer a 38-point maintenance check for $89 and a 64-point maintenance check for $178. According to Energy.gov, a standard furnace cleaning and maintenance visit can include:

  • Checking the vent connection pipe and chimney
  • Checking the physical integrity of the heat exchanger
  • Adjusting the controls to provide optimum air temperatures
  • Checking the combustion chamber for cracks
  • Testing for carbon monoxide (CO)
  • Adjusting the blower control and supply-air temperature
  • Cleaning and oiling the blower
  • Removing soot and corrosion from the furnace
  • Checking the fuel input and flame characteristics
  • Sealing the connections between the furnace and the main ducts

How much does it cost to replace a gas furnace?

The cost to replace your gas furnace will vary based on the type and size of furnace you select, labor and installation costs, and any repairs your HVAC system may need. Nationally, average HVAC prices for a heating specialist range between $1,800 and $2,500. It’s important to select the right size gas furnace for your heating needs. A furnace that’s too small won’t heat your house properly, while a furnace that’s too large will run inefficiently, cycling on and off and likely breaking down sooner. HVAC specialists calculate your exact heat needs by measuring your home and incorporating variables such as the regional climate and your home’s level of insulation. Retail pricing for gas furnaces can range from $650 up to $3,000 and more. The higher the AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) rating of the furnace, the more efficient it is at turning fuel into heat and the lower your carbon footprint and utility bill will be. HVAC installation costs are often based on an hourly rate and can range from under $50 to over $100 per hour, depending on the company and the furnace being installed. Higher-end furnaces cost more to install because they require added labor and expertise. For a typical installation, it might take two HVAC installation pros one day or less to remove your old furnace and replace it with a new one.

How much does it cost to have your furnace serviced?

When your furnace isn’t regularly serviced it can operate less efficiently. This increases your energy bills and also prevents your furnace from keeping your home as warm as you like. Keep your furnace properly maintained with regular service. The national average furnace service cost is between $60 and $80. Companies may offer tuneup specials that cover all the necessary testing, tightening, measuring and cleaning to keep your equipment running at top efficiency. If you have a newer system, furnace service costs may be covered by your warranty. Outside of warranty, a basic tuneup might start at $58 and a more advanced maintenance cleaning could be over $120. Here are some signs your furnace may need service:

  • The furnace has stopped functioning entirely.
  • The temperature cannot be regulated.
  • Rooms in the home are either too hot or too cold.
  • The heated air coming from the furnace smells like gas.
  • The thermostat isn’t working.
  • Strange noises are coming from the furnace.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
