There aren't enough words to say how happy that I am with the job that Manny did on my house. He installed a garage door opener and did a wonderful job --- very conscientious and professional. He will be my very first call for the next job I have at my house.

Tee and his team put together a Lifetime playset in about 5-6 hours on a Saturday for my family. He even left at one point to run to Home Depot to pick up a bolt that was damaged. I would definitely consider him for future projects.

MarkAnthony did a fantastic job for us. I contacted him a few weeks back with photos and list of work. Being out of town owners we had a small window to get everything done. He arrived on time, did the work I previously asked about as well as installing an additional light fixture. Cost was what was quoted and expected. Very fair price, professional and cleaned up after themselves. Definitely recommend!!

These guys are terrific. I hired them to do some carpet re-stretching in a house I'm selling. So impressed with them I'm going to try to use them for the flooring in the new house I'm building.

Great work! Very satisfied! On time. Patient, lots of ordering for the job which caused a delay in project but Josh was very understanding. Workmanship great! Made sure I was happy with work before leaving. When my new windows come in I'll be using Well Done Painting again.

Promptness and professionalism were the reason my husband and I selected Arijatos, Inc. The work we needed completed was knockdown ceiling, drywall repair, floor board replacement and painting of our living room, dining area and family room. Mr. Arijatos was timely competitive and complete with a free quote after viewing the premises. The workers were professional and thorough and the finished work was the icing on the cake . It far exceeded my vision and expectations. We are looking forward to having Arijatos Inc. remodel our kitchen.

Lou did an excellent job on my repairs. He responded with any questions I had immediately. He went out of his way to save me money, not trying to upsell me or charge for costly replacements that weren't necessary. His work was great, he cleaned everything up and I could not be happier. He did drywall repair, replaced a garbage disposal and faucet, and fixed a light. He even rescued two lizards from my house from facing certain doom with the dog - he's a friend to nature! I will definitely call Cordero Services in the future for help with household repairs.

We were very lucky to have David. The project was about a week long. Our house was a short sale one and had lots of problems. Walls were broken and many stuff did not work at all. David fixed all the problems and made the house look like new. He built a new wall to make an extra bedroom and added a new roof for our patio. The most important part is that the costs were low. David always find ways to repair things at low costs. All my family members like David. He is an excellent handyman and I highly recommend his company.

One of the most honest contractors/handymen I have ever dealt with. Was very transparent over his charges and was a pleasure to deal with. The work involved matching travertine tiles to create two wide long mid-steps down to family room which originally had an 8 inch drop down which was too high. Also removed old laundry room sink and replaced with a new one. Repaired some pool enclosure doors and the front door which was cracked at the bottom.

Will Ruiz and his company My House Aluminum gave us an excellent experience in replacing our driveway. They tore out the old driveway and removed the concrete. Then replaced it with brand new concrete. The entire project was done exactly according to the timeline that was laid out. And, it came in at exactly the price as quoted.

Friendly and informative salesman (Dan) got us the product we needed and didn't try to sell us any less or more than what we needed. Price was fair and competitive. Installation was on time and completed in less time than quoted. I would recommend to anyone who is looking to replace their HVAC system.

Jason was very knowledgeable about our projects and came to the right conclusions when setting a course of action. our front door was installed incorrectly, Jason repaired and installed it within an hour and it now closes and operates perfectly. I also bought an inside bathroom door to be installed, he found an error in construction and I returned it for another one at Home depot, which he installed and it works perfectly. Jason also framed our two bathroom mirrors and it looks beautiful! this was all done in one afternoon at a very reasonable price, My wife is over the moon with his professionalism and work quality. No, he hasn't paid us for this review, but we are hiring him to remodel our bathroom starting Monday!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.
