Wedding Dance Lessons

Vallie D. says, "Diana is AMAZING!!! If you are considering hiring her for dance choreography, you should not think twice about it! Diana worked with my fiancé (at the time) and myself on our 1st dance, as well as a surprise dance with some of our wedding party. She was always on time, communicative, patient, and most importantly, she always showed us that she CARED about us as a couple. For each practice, Diana would record us so that way we could go back home and practice. Diana never forced anything upon us and always listened to what it was that WE wanted as a couple. When we had technical difficulties with our song, she was in constant communication with us to make sure that everything was going to turn out okay. Diana definitely exceeded our expectations for a dance choreographer and I would definitely recommend her to anybody. Our dances turned out perfect & shocked our guests at how entertaining and well put together they were! Having Diana as a wedding dance choreographer was our BEST move by far..! We loved every minute of the practices, and our final result was MAGICAL. :) My Husband and I now consider her a good friend and hope to keep in touch with her! *5 stars for sure!"See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do you wear to swing dance lessons?

Swing dance is an increasingly popular style of ballroom dance with a dress code that reflects its roots in the 1920s-1940s jazz era. Although many studios don’t require historically accurate costumes for their private dance lessons, many dancers want to dress the part. You can wear clothes that are comfortable to move — and sweat — in, such as T-shirts and loose skirts or khakis. Or for an appropriately vintage look, women often wear shirt dresses with a knee-length A-line or circle skirt that allows for plenty of swishy movement. Men usually opt for a button-down shirt and trousers. The most important part of a swing dance outfit is the shoes. Both men and women can opt for simple sneakers, like Keds, or leather dance shoes, such as saddle shoes. Until you have several dance lessons under your belt, stay away from heels.

How much do dance lessons cost?

Adults who want to learn to dance, whether to prepare for a wedding or to meet new people, often enjoy taking dance lessons from an experienced dance instructor. Instructors may offer classes one-on-one to individual students or couples, or to small groups. The national average cost for a dance instructor ranges from $30 to $50. Some studios offer a discounted introductory lessons or group lessons, as well as package deals that are more affordable than paying for individual lessons. Some dance instructors will travel to the student’s home, which usually costs more, while others hold small-group sessions in their studios. If you choose a small-group class, expect to pay less than for individual dance lessons.
