I found Thumbtack through surfing web for pet sitters in your home? I had quick responses from 3 different sitters. I choice the one that had no problem staying overnight at our home, as we had never left our dog in a kennel or with someone we didn't know. Sarah meet with me two times prior to us hiring her service. My husband was leary of leaving a stranger in our home, but her professionalism quickly easied our minds. We were away on business for 4 days, she answered any text messages & sent pictures daily. When we returned she had all her paperwork on the table with daily journal of her time & care given to our Golden Retriever Casey. Casey was happy, clean, and our home was like she never was there. Perfect. We highly recommend her service, a very loving, caring & proffessiobalism person! We will be using her again in April.

I couldn't be happier with the training my 8 month old husky can home with!! Ozzy (bolt) was going to be a challenge for me as a dog owner. Everything that I read about huskies was going to push my limits and what I want from my dog. I hike, bike, ski, and run daily and wanted my dogs to enjoy the same activities. My border collie aus shepherd mix was already great at being off leash with a very quick call back. It took me months to get her there. With in two weeks my husky ozzy was there!! He now can go into the back country skiing with me and I feel safe knowing that he wants to stay with me. I'm so thankful for exclusively canine!! They are there for me with the smallest questions that I will still have and I often share pics with the owner of ozzy happy with his sister miss beans enjoying the Lake Tahoe landscape.

About

I have been working with and caring for animals since I was kid. I started training dog in Jr High with the 4H Obedience Dog training club. Shortly after that I join the local AKC club as well. That when my passion for training was sparked. At 14 I adopted a English Setter that local well known breeder gave to train and show. My father was in the Air Force so we did travel around some but I always stayed invalved with local groups. I moved to Pensacola FL in spring of 2015. Since moving to Pensacola I have become involved in some of the local Rescue group and I volunteer and foster for the Flori-Bama Chihuahua Rescue. I current have 4 dogs of my own all are rescues and one of them is a special needs- My Hercules was born deaf and blind he is a product of a bad breed and was considered a throw away. He is a healthy and happy 8 year old now. I am also experienced with care of another animals as well such as Horses, cats and some small animals. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
