Found Phil and his company thru Thumbstack and out of all the movers that responded he seemed like the most solid choice. I was not disappointed. He was great at communicating when his guys would be at my house to move me and they arrived at the specified time. His movers were super friendly and took great care with packing and moving my belongings. The whole process only took around 3 hours and the price I paid was fair and well worth the money for the convenience. I would highly recommend American Movers to anyone. You guys rock!

Movers were great! Called and were early, we were still packing a bit and they even offered to help and were very friendly. We used movers before and they seem to drag it and it was much more expensive. Great value overall, would definitely refer!

I booked their services a day before, for a Friday afternoon, to move my one bedroom apartment about two miles. I had a feeling that the traffic/time slot would push everything back and it did, but it all worked out well since I ended up needing the extra time to finish packing. The team of three arrived about two hours later than scheduled, but once they showed up it took maybe two hours to put everything in the truck, drive to the new place, and unload everything at the new place. They took good care of my items, nothing was broken, ripped, or damaged. And in total the move came to maybe $250. I was nervous about using the online site and booking within such a short time-frame, but they were professional and efficient. When I had a question or concern they never talked to me in a condescending tone, and they gave me a real answers instead of just excuses, which is something I appreciate and value as a customer. I would recommend their services in the future.

James hung a tv for us. Clearly he knew what he was doing and was professional. It didn't include hiding the power cord behind wall like other tvs we have but we didn't clarify this so we can't complain. We would hire James again and recommend his services. He's much more professional in all ways than others in the area! He also does lawn service.

Moved long distance across many states. Initial consultation and price quote were very professional. The packing boxes were from Home Depot and the boxes were of mid grade in terms of sturdiness which isn't Ecko movers fault but it did contribute to some crushed boxes when they arrived at the destination. A few damages from inadequate packing which they were very willing to remedy by fixing or replacing. I was there at the destination point to receive the packed items and the guys were great. Worked fast and moved everything in to where we asked. Moving is stressful but overall, a good experience with the move.

Our team showed up an hour and a half late which put us in a bind for beginning our long drive home to Huntsville, Al. However, once they did arrive they dove into the task, and we had a wonderful experience working with Eugene and his Strongman Movers team from then on. Taking pity on us I think, they worked ferociously to get us packed up and on the road, packing up and loading a single bedroom apartment worth of furniture and boxes in just under one hour!! We used the website ThumbTack to identify, evaluate, and select a moving company in Orlando to help me (70 years old) and my youngest brother (65) load a single bedroom apartment's worth of furniture and boxes for my brother's move to Huntsville after 43 years as a Disney employee. Their professionalism easily removed almost all of the stress typically associated with household moves and transformed the experience nearly into fun!! Great company with a great staff! We will gladly recommend Strongman Movers to any and all needing relocation services.

You delivered on your promise of a stress free move—thank you thank you!!!

Wow! Deborah and Daughter's Cleaning Service is amazing! I've nicknamed them the white tornado "Clean-Ganizers". . We originally hired Deb to clean the house we were moving into. While there, Deb let my husband know but she also does unpacking, so he hired her to help me get the house unpacked, professionally. May I say she was so much more pprofessional & faster, than the company that packed us. On the very first day we started off with a zillion boxes covering my kitchen counters and floor all the way into the next room. By the end of that day Deb and daughter had everything unpacked & put away so that I had a functional kitchen! What a relief! They even hauled away the boxes and packing paper! This to me this the best dynamic duo I have seen in years. Deborah understands how to organize and make a room flow. She is FULL of helpful suggestions, but will still joyfully do it your way, if a suggestion doesn't work for you. They are very easy towork with and they work so fast, that if yyou leave the room for10 minutes, while meeting a new neighbor, you could find a project done - they're like white tornados. And POWERHOUSES...oh my gosh! Those 2 ladies move furniture and boxes around like it's nothing! Sweet girls rearranged furniture3 times in myJungle Room, until we got it all in there, & it was arranged the way I needed/wanted it to be! Deb really understands how to maximize space!! And she shared some great ddecorating ideas with me, for our plant shelf/display area high up, that another client uses, in same type area.Deb also kept me calm & focused when I saw that the "professional" packing/moving company had merely emptied 2 bathrooms out of drawers and cabinets by just dumping eeverything in 3 or 4 giantic boxes....at which point I felt like I needed to walk away, cry, etc but Deb kept me plugging along. It's so great to be able to have someone helping you in so many different capacaties Weather you need basic cleaning, organizing or professional unpacking services, these are your go-to gals! They're not afraid toroll up their sleeves and get dirty - they don't shrink back from any task, and they are very knowledgeable . They work fast, efficient and truly strive to do all that you need & take the stress off of you. It's nice to see a family-owned company, where a mom takes pride in teaching her children integrity and a top notch work eethic! THEY ARE SO WORTH PAYING TO DO THE THINGS I CAN'T DO PHYSICALLY, OR DON'T WANT TO DO!!! When the task is too big/much for me, they come to the rescue. Thank God for Deb & her lovely daughter, or my house still wouldn't be unpacked!

We are very satisfied with the service Premier Movers provided. The made two moves for us on the same day. They were very efficient and cleaned up after themselves. They disassembled what was needed and reassembled at the new location. I would recommend them to friends and family members that may need moving services in the future

The movers of Pick up Movers are incredibly professional. They were easy to work with and their rate was also very reasonable. They arrived on time and made sure to finish the move within the estimated time. They were very amiable and efficient. They took great care of my fragile items during the packing and unpacking. Amerapex was recommended to us by a friend. We thought we could do this move on our own but figured out in the middle of it we were going to need help. It wasn't just last minute it was during the move that we called for help and Alex was able to get a crew to us in no time!!! I cannot thank them enough and will recommend to anyone needing a moving service!

Super pleasurable experience working with these guys!! They were on time, very communicative and professional, all while being careful with ALL of my items, packing them neatly in their truck, and so on. Also no hidden fees or surprises at pick up, which I, as a working class man, appreciated above all else!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND MOVING FORWARD TO ANY OF MY FRIENDS!

Elizabeth and Team were prompt, efficient and went the extra mile to pack a 1,945 sq. ft. house for moving out of state. When needed she brought in more packers and on the last day when my mover was late by 6+ hours, Elizabeth and Mike came late in the afternoon and cleaned the entire home so that when the buyers did their walk-through the next morning the house looked in super shape. Ellen also did an outstanding job, driving a long distance to help each day with the packing. Ellen wrote the contents of each box and where it was to go when unloaded at its New York State destination. Kudos to everyone. I would hire them again! Nothing broke during transport due to the excellent quality of wrapping every item. SJB

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
