I took the CPR and First Aide class on line but there is no comparison to taking these classes with an experienced firefighter who teaches real life lessons. One example would be to use your two thumbs instead of two finger when giving CPR to an infant. Charles Barlet brings with him a wonderful sense of humor! I enjoyed taking his class and highly recommend him to anyone wanting to learn CPR and First Aid!

Before I started Voice Lessons with Naomi, I didn't ever consider myself a "singer". I would just say "I sing sometimes". I even went to Performing Arts Middle School, Performing Arts High School and had several vocal coaches before Naomi. Even my father was a vocal coach! But I knew the type of vocal coach I needed. Someone who wasn't "conventional" or "classical" and most of all... Someone who believed that I could sing as well as I wanted to! My first lesson with Naomi CHANGED MY LIFE! Not only did she understand what I was self conscious about with my voice, she PUSHED ME THROUGH it and did not give up on me until I had the voice I always knew that I could have! After one lesson, I knew there was hope. Just one lesson is all it took. Each continuing lesson, I became better and better and better until ALL OF SUDDEN, I found myself as the Lead Singer of THREE bands, with gigs as often as I said "Yes" and people coming up to me at gigs saying "I knew that was you singing!! I could tell by your amazing voice!" Well...that amazing voice was tweaked and prodded and worked over and over by the amazing Naomi! Without her I would have not had as much fun in the music world as I do, without her I wouldn't have gone as far as I have! Basically without Naomi, I would have never called myself a singer. Now, when someone say's "What do you do" I can proudly say "I'm a singer". I happened to marry a vocal coach and even still to this day...When I'm up on stage or I feel like I need a little help vocally, Naomi will forever be in my heart as the top vocal coach in this world!

Dennis at Top String offers an excellent guitar lesson service, but also advice on equipment and can set you up with a Guitar suited just for you. He teaches lessons at your home, is punctual and flexible too. He loves to teach and he makes it really fun. I love blues so we tend to learn on blues for the first two sessions, but he can play all categories of guitar. Definitely recommended.

We're starting our Spanish lessons in January, when all the holiday hulabaloo is over. . . I can hardly wait! My teacher was quite responsive, quite friendly, and quite professional. We might even get into French before it's over!

Rob does a great job making my bass lessons fun and engaging, and is great at matching the material to the individual student. I really like that he writes things down for you to reference later and answers questions well. He's definitely taken the intimidation out of learning an instrument. Overall, he's very professional and is a teacher I'd recommend to anyone.

I am 56 years old and have spent my entire life (to this point) assuming I could not sing and was always envious of those who could. I assumed singing is something you were born with and that I was someone who did not receive that gene!! Gayle has proved me wrong (as well as all my music teachers in elementary school up through high school) Gayle is a natural teacher and is giving me the confidence to use my voice!! I am grateful for having found her and making me realize that everyone can sing! It just takes practice like any other activity!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
