George did a substantial amount of handyman work at my home i just bought. He is a very meticulous painter that doesnt miss spots or leave a mess. George can handle jobs as routine as mounting ceiling fans or hanging pictures or window shades, all the way up to stripping, sanding and staining natural wood stairs that were hidden underneath carpet. These turned out great thanks to George. George works quickly and wont stop until a job is done to your satisfaction. I highly recommend him and will use him again myself.

I was having issues with my windows forever and no large window company would take the time to talk to me, let alone come and investigate the problem. Don gave a bid quickly and came to my house to investigate right away. He immediately identified the problem and went on hunt to find the replacement parts. Once found he installed them quickly and efficiently. He was professional, timely and cost effective! Highly recommend. Thanks Don!!

We had carpet cleaning in the entire house. Scott did such a great job!! We only found one spot missed and with the lighting in the kids rooms I can see why, I asked what it was and I was told it was possible OJ but guarantee if Coastal Cleaning had seen it the spot would have been gone next to the front windows. They are very thorough. They vacuum entire home first, then treatments, then cleaning and then rake it out. Takes about 2 hours to dry maybe slightly just more depending on humidity outside and what AC is set on. I recommend him to anyone that wants a great job done. I also recommend showing them where you think most stains are, I knew about the one but I assumed it was touched. It was just didn't come up. I asked kids what it was and they said OJ I guess. Who takes OJ in their rooms, I have no idea but apparently my teens do. The pricing they give you over phone and thumbtack is just that, it is for a basic cleaning, not treatments or protectant from future stains, if you go that route it is a little more money but well worth it if you want to protect your investment or home areas. Scott is very personable, easy to get along with, and no problem with pets, which is always a concern for us due to our pet over reacting at times to protect. I highly recommend Coastal Cleaning and Scott will make your carpets look brand new again!!!

I have used A&S Blinds before and now I have an absolutely fabulous house full of window treatments that I got for less than even at the big home improvement stores!! Now we're working on a kitchen remodel and I have to say the progress looks superb! I wish I could post photo's! The workers are very polite and clean up after themselves too. To me that's a big plus!!!

John Reece was a pleasure to work with on home remodel including complete kitchen remodel, new floors, relocating front door and windows and updates to bathroom. John shared great insights for ideas at every stage of the project. His professionalism and communication were key, as we were working with him from out of state. As with any remodel, expected to find things along the way and he had great ideas - both quality and affordable options. His work is high quality and was ahead of schedule. We are thrilled with the results and highly recommend John Reece & Associates.

Absolutely exceeded expectations. Aaron from Gulfside doors was the last of four estimates, including an installer contractor for Home Depot. The previous three told me that what I wanted (french doors to replace old sliders) could not be done, without major demolition and rebuild of the exterior wall. The doors were not a normal size and slid into a deep pocket in the exterior wall. I didn't hold out much hope for getting this project done and when Aaron arrived I was quick to tell him that I doubted he'd be able to help. Nonsense he said. He took measurements and assured me they could do the job. Later that day my girlfriend and I met Aaron at their showroom in Clearwater where he showed us several options and made recommendations on what he thought would look best in the space. He provided a fair written estimate that did not change through the course of the job and there was no high pressure sales tactics. We left the store and a week later called to arrange the down payment (1/2 of the estimate) and schedule a final measuring. The doors had to be custom made because of the abnormal size. The installer and his helper showed up on a Saturday morning and worked for 10 hours straight to remove the old sliders and install the new french doors and side panels. Both were very polite, professional, and tolerant of my two curious dogs. Gulf Coast doors called me that Monday to arrange for the county inspector to sign off on the job. The inspector was quite impressed with the new addition as well. When closed, the doors block out all sounds from the outside, the blinds inside the window panes block the natural light when closed or highlight it when wanted, and the tempered glass even helps with dissipating the heat from the sun. From the outside, the doors add a touch of elegance to the pool area. It has been over a month since install, and to sum it up, this is may be the most satisfying home upgrade I have ever done. I would use Gulf Coast Doors again and have already recommended them to one impressed neighbor

First I want to say what an awesome personality Larry has! He came over right away when we called for estimate on a bunch of work we needed and wanted done. Within one day, he had all the work in detail including price and labor professionally printed to go over with my husband and I. We started with a small budget and worked on what was most important first. All of our windows needed replaced due to energy costs. Because our house was built so poorly, most of the work done was custom fit. Larry is a perfectionist and hardworking! He gutted our whole bathroom, plastered the walls and put drywall. He installed new bathroom fixtures and tub frame. Insulated walls. He offers amazing quality job for a low price. He enclosed a whole vertical window and got matching wood siding to make it look perfect and also fixed our awning that was rotting outside. Did electrical work for us. Was always on time and was here when he said he'd be. Very dedicated and can tell he loves what he does! Work shows! Have already referred him to many friends and family that are excited to hire him! Always has great ideas to improve the job and is very honest and very reasonable!! :-) very pleased!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

    • Trim repair:
      • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
      • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
    • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
    • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
      • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
      • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
        • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.
