Golf made simple. As a self-taught golfer with no lessons, Mike looked at my swing and instantly fixed my grip and focused on my tempo. He put it in terms that gave reasoning behind the tempo and the club head being able to square up in connection with the body. With a week of work- I went from a lost golf swing of hitting the ball dangerously sideways at the range to hitting 5/7 fairways off the tee two days ago (played 9). I have recommended him to everyone I know and once I have mastered my tempo will be getting back with Mike on the next step towards improving my game.

My wife and I were new to golfing and we had played for about six weeks on our own. We had also gone to the driving range and listened to other players on how to better our game. However, we could never get our driving game any better. I decided to look online and find a golf instructor. I found James Kyle and I have to say, I was skeptical on how our lesson was going to turn out. We met him at his country club and he made us feel very comfortable and he was able to get our mind off learning and to just to play. We immediately went to the driving range. After the first 30 minutes, my wife and I were driving the ball much further than what we were in the past. With just a few changes in our grip and position, things were better. We practiced for an hour. Once we were done with our lesson, we immediately booked another time later that month. We highly recommend beginner golfers, or even golfers that have played a long time to take the time to learn from James. He is amazing and we look forward to learning so much more about the game, oh ya, and to just have fun!

Scott can teach golfers at any level of skill. He is an excellent analyzer of the swing and gives very practical and concrete tips and drills to help you get the most out of your swing. He is great with on course instruction...understanding lies, clubs to use in various course situations, etc. His instructions really helped me with my game.

I had never played golf before and had such a great experience with Tim. Not only is he knowledgeable but he is patient, and made me feel very comfortable. I learned so much about the game of golf and each lesson was right on the golf course at different holes. In only 6 lessons I can now chip, putt and drive which is such an accomplishment considering I had never even swung a golf club before. I am now ready to play 18 holes with my boyfriend...for fun, of course. I highly recommend Tim for golf lessons and I will continue to have him help me with my game in the future.

Being a higher-handicapper, I was concerned about taking a golf lesson that was too "technical" or over my head. My golf lesson with Brad was neither. He kept everything very simple and I hit shots that I did not know that I could hit. While taking the time to get to know me at the beginning of the lesson, Brad realized that I was a visual learner. This allowed him to better communicate what he wanted me to do. Definitely have found the right golf coach for me and I can't wait to play with my husband!

Dave is a great teacher of golf, in that he is patient, understanding and is invested in my progress and development. I was a 17.5 index last year and am now an 8.9. He worked with my schedule, was available for consultation outside of our scheduled appointments and turned many of my weaknesses in to strengths. My results speak for themselves.

The simplicity of what I get across to the client. "Simple enough for a 5 year old to understand" I know how difficult this game can be. The golf lingo can be difficult to comprehend. My goal is to ease the mind of the client. Give them simple instructions that are easy for that client to recognize and be able to truly grasp what they are doing, why and how to correct it, minus the frustrations that typically can come with instructors

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What makes a good golf instructor?

A good golf instructor is someone who has the playing skill you’d like to achieve, is qualified to teach golf, and is someone you can get along with. Some experts recommend you only take golf lessons from coaches with active accreditation from reputable associations such as the PGA, LPGA, or similar organizations that focus on continuing education. You’ll be spending hours out on the green with the pro during lessons, so a good rapport, strong communication and the right personality fit are key. A proven track record is also important. Read reviews from their current and former students to make sure they have helped people achieve their golfing goals, and always ask about the instructor’s experience before signing on for lessons. Years of providing lessons can contribute to a deeper understanding of how to teach the sport. Just because your friend or partner is great at golf doesn’t mean they’ll give good golf lessons. Invest in a professional golf instructor who knows how to teach the sport from short game to full swing.

    How much are golf lessons?

Golf lessons are a great way to break into the sport or take your golf game to a new level. The national average cost for golf lessons is $50-$60, but prices will vary based on what type of lessons you want. The most expensive golf lessons will be private instruction with top-tier coaches. These are golf instructors who have held high professional ranking and have a good reputation. Regardless of who is teaching, private instruction is always more costly than couples’ lessons or small group lessons (usually up to four people). Teachers often offer a lower price per lesson when you buy a package of several lessons at one time. Here are some examples of average golf lesson costs:

    • Individual lessons:
      • Standard pricing for 60-minute private lesson: $60.
      • 60-minute lesson with renowned golf coach: $100.
    • Couples’ lessons:
      • Standard pricing for 90-minute duo lesson: $100.
      • 60-minute lesson with renowned golf coach: $125.
    • Golf lesson package pricing:
      • Purchase six individual lessons at one time and save $10.
      • Purchase 10 individual lessons at one time and save $40.
      • Purchase six couples’ lessons at one time and save $40.
      • Purchase 10 couples’ lessons at one time and save $200.

What age should you start golf lessons?

Golf lessons for kids can start as early as age four or five. They’re too young for formal training, but you can keep them interested and engaged and give them a feel for the game. U.S. Kids Golf recommends starting formal training for junior golfers at six years old. It’s important for young golfers to swing clubs that are the right length and weight for their body; U.S. Kids Golf provides a fitting guide.

Golf lessons for kids, especially young kids, should be about encouraging success rather than correcting mistakes, according to U.S. Kids Golf. If you want your child to love golf for life, you want their early experiences to be positive. Golf lessons for kids are less expensive than golf lessons for adults. A monthly rate (including four lessons) for group golf lessons for kids may average $100. Semi-private golf lessons for kids may range from $150 to $200 per month. Location and instructor reputation can also affect cost. Often, discounts are provided when multiple months are purchased at one time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
