He makes learning jazz piano and music theory really easeful, tailors his lessons to what you’re interested in (instead of a rote set of exercises) and managed to always find me exactly what I was interested in doing even if it was esoteric, and was really encouraging and positive. My goal was to get a thorough grounding in music theory and learn how to arrange piano for my own songs, and I was amazed how easily it came with his instruction after years of wandering through pop piano on my own. I am a singer songwriter who learned classical piano when I was younger and I was looking for a short term teacher to up my level in playing and composing. Mark and I spent three months working on different jazz progressions and soloing techniques, as well as analyzing theory so that I can use some of the techniques in my own songwriting. He is very personable and kind, making sure that I understood the concepts for each class, and really broke things down into strategies that are useful for me. My son is 15 years old, and did not have "any" previous piano or music knowledge at all (a true beginner). Mr. White makes the lessons so interesting,that my sons practice every day at home for at least 3-4 hours. People say that piano is 10% talent, 90% sweat! My son enjoys Mr. White a lot. He is very professional, knowledgeable and a great teacher for my son. We are very happy with him and I will highly recommend this teacher.
