I hired Adrienne and her co-worker, Mia, to perform makeup and hair services for my bridesmaids and myself on my wedding day. They did an EXCELLENT job. My hair and makeup was just as I requested, as was practiced during my trial run with Mia. Mia also did hair for the girls, while Adrienne did their makeup. Both did a great job, and all of my girls were thrilled with the results. (Some girls even chose to get their makeup done the day of, that were not originally planning on getting their makeup professionally done - after seeing what a wonderful job Adrienne did.) Everyone looked lovely for our Big Day! :) They were on time to meet us to begin getting ready, and throughout the entire experience Adrienne has been readily available and easy to be in touch with. Thanks for a wonderful experience! I will definitely keep them mind for any future events or recommendations for other friends needing hair or makeup stylists. THANKS! :)

Renee is fabulous! She is beyond talented! I have very sensitive skin and I am allergic to a lot of chemicals and she always helps me find the right products. My hair is complicated too (thin, delicate, curly/wavy, frizzy with stubborn greys) and she is one of few stylists that can figure out how to work with it. It's hard to find a stylist that produces consistent results and she is the one! I highly recommend her!!!!

Dana did and does excellent service. She is very professional. I love that she take the time to get to know you and find out about your hair. Her styling techniques are great. She is not only a great stylist but she is a great teacher. Not only are you getting a great stylist but she provides the steps and the techniques to keep and maintain your style and it works. I never want anyone else to touch my hair again. He was on time, and through minimal discussions prior to my appointment he was able to do wonders. Last two times my hair was cut by others it was a disaster. I was in panic mode due to an event coming up and my hair was a hot mess. Vincent made time, was incredibly reasonable in terms of cost, he was even friendly towards my toddler. I never want to go to a salon again and I am telling everyone I know to call Vincent. It was the best hair experience I have had in SUCH a long time and after two years of just winging it and hoping for the best, this mom feels beautiful again. Hands down an amazing stylist and an amazing person! If you don't book him you are doing yourself such a disservice!

Sabrina did my makeup for my cousin's wedding and it was right after I had my son. She did a fabulous job and made me feel like a million bucks. She applied false lashes for me. Her work is amazing, be it high fashion, a wedding, or just an every day look...she does her best and is very creative. She is very easy going and listens to your likes and dislikes. I will be getting my face beat by her again.

April is great! She knows fashion and style, but, more importantly, she understands people! As an older woman, I want comfort and economy without being dowdy and dated. April gets that. She selected things that fit and look good for my body type and are just right for my lifestyle and personality. She helps me to dress in the casual, classic style I like while making sure I have just the right amount of bling to feel up to date.

I was referred from a friend to Ms. Brown, and I must say I have my doubts about new people, but Ms. Brown has changed my whole perspective on me doubting folks. She was very professional as well as prompt, when it came to providing me the services I needed. I now see Ms. Brown three times a month. It's hard finding loyal, professional, courteous and or even prompt stylist. Ms. Brown is beautiful, stylish and has a warm southern hospitality spirit with her. I truly wanna say thank you Ms. Brown, I was delighted to leave you a rating, you deserve it.

I have been going to Jackie to do my hair for quite a while now and I have to say I cannot imagine allowing someone else to handle my hair. I've had my fair share of hair stylists cutting and dying my hair and every single time they leave my hair damaged and the cut just wasn't even, despite me spending a fortune. When I started going to Jackie I have noticed a significant increase in health in my hair. She is always so gentle with my hair and gives her professional opinion when I become indecisive. She is never pushy to doing something for my hair because she simply wants to do it, or because she thinks it will look well. She is brilliant with color, I've never seen anyone work so fast or efficiently without rushing me around. After the color treatment my hair is left feeling as soft as a cloud with her conditioning treatment, NO DAMAGE DONE WHAT-SO-EVER. Coloring my hair has always been a big deal to me because I have naturally curly hair and have always struggled to find a hair colorist who can color my hair and retain its natural curls, with Jackie not only are my natural curls retained but they are enhanced. When she colors my hair everything looks perfect, she blends it so perfectly, you would think my hair is naturally ombré or naturally blue and black. It's incredible I've never seen anything like it, a colorist who makes your hair look so natural and leaves your hair healthier and softer than she started. The cut is also always clean and defined, no stray hairs at all and always so sharp. All in all, Jackie is so talented you would think she truly has hair in her blood, she works so beyond fast it's almost unbelievable, and her prices are second to none. I am a poor college student, but I would gladly pay her significantly more than she charges due to the sheer quality of her work. She's so easy to talk to and I will never ever look back and allot anyone else to touch my hair, not even my mom. Jackie is a rare talent in a world of waynnabe hair stylists, she is truly a master at her art.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do image consultants do?

Image consultants help people look and feel their best by coaching them on their clothing and beauty choices. An image consultant can be hired for a one-time occasion, such as an awards ceremony, big birthday party or photo shoot. The consultant will recommend clothing, hair and makeup to suit the occasion either using either what the client owns or taking a targeted shopping trip. For a complete fashion consultation, the image consultant will assess your wardrobe, your lifestyle, and what you hope to present to the world, and will then determine the best colors, styles and cuts for you. You can get help streamlining your professional appearance, adjusting your style after a change in body size, solidifying a new look, or finding clothing to fit one area of your life like work or weekends. Image consultants also provide closet edits, going through your clothing and paring out what isn’t right for the look you’re trying to achieve. Personal shopping is another service that image consultants provide. After an image assessment, they can either shop with you or shop on your behalf to find you key pieces you need.

How do I find a personal stylist?

To find a fashion consultant, start by browsing portfolios online. Styling is a visual art, so finding a fashion consultant who fits the style you desire is key. Great personal stylists aren’t confined to one style, but if you’re seeking a hipper, fashion-forward vibe, you’d do well to find someone with a modern portfolio, while a fashion consultant with a consistently refined style could be a better fit if you’d prefer a more conservative look. Reading reviews is also helpful for learning more about the fashion consultant. Research their training, background and years of experience. After reviewing websites and Instagram accounts, meet with the stylist in person to learn how well they fit your personality; some fashion consultants offer a free phone consultation prior to hiring. Before hiring, make sure you clearly understand their terms of service and payment.

What is a personal shopper?

Personal shoppers take the pain out of having good fashion. Personal shoppers are paid professionals who work with women, men or children who need style assistance. If you are stuck in a fashion rut, are unsure how to dress in a way that flatters your body, need to revamp your image, or want a more professional career look, personal shoppers can help. Personal shoppers identify the look their client wants to achieve and purchase the necessary clothing and accessories to achieve it. The process often begins with an initial consultation with the client to understand their style goals. This consultation may include a closet “audit,” an assessment of the client’s current wardrobe to see what items can be eliminated and what must be purchased to achieve the desired style.

The client and the personal shopper can shop together, selecting items as a team. The personal shopper may also shop on behalf of the client, then bring all items to the client for a final decision. A third option is pre-shopping, where the personal shopper reaches the store(s) ahead of the client and sets aside clothing for the client to try on, expediting the whole process — a win for anyone who hates spending time in the mall. Personal shoppers can also be hired for one-time events such as weddings, vacations or birthdays. You can also enlist a personal shopper to do your gift shopping for you. Overall, a personal shopper is an investment in making good style choices.

What is a fashion consultant?

A fashion consultant is a paid professional who will advise you on what to wear and how to wear it to fit your desired lifestyle or career goals. A fashion consultant can provide many services including personal shopping, closet audits, beauty consultations, style consultations and ongoing seasonal services. A fashion consultant often has a design or fashion background (although this is not required) and an innate sense of style. It’s easy to get stuck in a rut with the colors, cuts and designs we think suit us. A fashion consultant comes in with fresh eyes and provides constructive feedback to guide your style choices.

During your initial meeting, your fashion consultant will take stock of your current clothing selection and learn what you hope to achieve. They’ll identify core wardrobe pieces you need, as well as advise you how to wear items together. Many consultants create style lookbooks for their clients explaining things like exactly which shoes to wear with what pants and how to accessorize each look. Fashion consultants are a great option for people who are updating their style due to age, career changes or body changes, or who are just ready for a new look and feel. Most fashion consultants charge by the hour, with some offering packages and others working from a retainer.

What does an image consultant do?

Image consultants help people look and feel their best by coaching them on their clothing and beauty choices. Image consultants help clients in a number of ways. An image consultant can be hired for a one-time occasion such as an awards ceremony, big birthday party or photo shoot.
