Introduction: My teaching has been considered thoughtful and passionate. I have been a professor on the college level, including at Emory University, and I have sung roles with professional opera companies. Real stage experience translates into how I teach as well as my strong academic background. I love seeing the little improvements my students make on a weekly basis! A thank you note from a former student: "Hey Dr. Slaten, thank you for an amazing semester! Taking lessons from you was easily the highlight of my year- you helped me start to learn this completely new system of music and improve my technique and help me reed better and on and on. I felt like taking lessons with you was the think that kept me afloat this semester because I always looked forward to them and you were always caring about my singing and my life in general. I was truly fortunate to spent time with you and I'm devastated that you wont be here next year- though I know you'll be amazing as your career progresses. I'll definitely keep in touch, have a great day!" -- Sahrudh, Emory University freshman, 2016

Ms. Slaten is honestly one of the best vocal instructors I have had so far. She uses many different analogies to help me understand how to use proper technique. She fully understands correct vocal technique and is able to effectively share her knowledge and talent with me, which in turn helps me to improve.

Elizabeth did wonders for my voice. She had a great way of explaining just what she wanted me to do with my techniques. She also explained how to do certain things with resinating my voice in different areas of my mouth to get the proper sound for the piece we were working on at that time. Elizabeth also explained things in many ways so that I could understand them clearly.
