Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do house cleaners cost in Atlanta?

The best house cleaners in Atlanta charge between $80 and $135. However, this cost is subject to change at any time and will vary depending on your needs. For example, the type of cleaning you need may impact the price. A standard cleaning, move-out cleaning or deep cleaning will likely all have different costs. Also, some cleaners charge different prices based on the number of bedrooms, and others offer extra services such as window or appliance cleaning. If you have something special that needs to be cleaned, such as mold, be sure to check with your house cleaner to see how much they charge.

Please note: All cost estimates are accurate at time of writing and are subject to change. For the most accurate, up-to-date cost estimates for your specific project, get free estimates from pros near you.

How do I choose the best house cleaning service in Atlanta?

When searching for the best house cleaning or maid service in Atlanta, read house cleaning reviews and look for the photos of the companies’ past work. Also, if you see a Top Pro badge in a house cleaner’s profile, this is a sign that the house cleaner is one of the most top-rated cleaners on Thumbtack.

Atlanta homeowners should also consider their home type, budget and industry experience when looking for the best cleaning service. For example, because Atlanta is known for its hot and muggy summers, it’s a good idea to ask the cleaner or service what type of experience they have with preventing and cleaning mold inside homes.

What’s the best way to set up a consultation or an appointment with a house cleaner during the COVID-19 pandemic?

The best way to set up a consultation with a house cleaner during the COVID-19 pandemic is by using virtual, online tools. Start by performing an online search for local house cleaners. Message them to set up either a phone call or video call to perform a consultation. During this call, they can give you recommendations and may be able to estimate the cost of their services. Be sure to discuss whether they accept virtual payments and any precautions they can take to perform the job safely.

How can I find out if a house cleaner is considered an essential COVID-19 service provider?

A house cleaner is generally not considered an essential service sector during the coronavirus pandemic. To find out which services are considered essential, visit your city and state government, and read their guidelines. A national list of essential service providers can be found on CISA’s Identifying Critical Infrastructure During COVID-19 site. This webpage lists 16 different infrastructure sectors considered to be essential. However, not all jurisdictions follow CISA’s definitions of critical infrastructure.

Can I use digital payments to pay for house cleaning?

Not only do many house cleaners accept digital payments through platforms like Zelle, PayPal, Square Cash, Google Pay, Venmo and more, but this may become more common as the COVID-19 pandemic pushes more service workers to digitize. This means you can pay your house cleaner without making physical contact or handling money.

If cleaning is absolutely essential during the current crisis, consult with the house cleaner beforehand to ensure a safe monetary transaction that complies with current government guidelines and recommendations for social distancing.

How much do maids or house cleaners make in Atlanta?

While specific maid salaries depend on factors such as education, certification and other skills, the average salary of housekeepers and maids in the Atlanta area is $21,350 annually or about $10.26 per hour. This is lower than the current $25,570 national average for maids and housekeepers, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Does a house cleaner need to enter my home?

Yes, in almost all cases a house cleaner needs to enter your home. However, a cleaner may not need to enter your home if they are solely cleaning outside areas.

There may be some cases in which a cleaner is necessary. If so, take precautions — avoid being in the same room, make no physical contact, sanitize any surfaces and pay through a digital service instead of using cash.

Do house cleaners offer remote or virtual services?

House cleaning is generally done in person, but some may be willing to offer remote services. If you find a house cleaner’s profile that states they’re offering remote services, contact the pro to talk about your options.

If you’d rather hire a house cleaner to clean your home when the pandemic is over, you may be able to book an appointment at a later date. Start by comparing local house cleaners in your area side-by-side.

Please don’t use them! I had them come clean two rooms and my kitchen and the cleaner broke my blinds and did just a “okay”job with the rest of the house—LME is not worth their fee.

They did an absolute AMAZING job cleaning my home! We were about to move into our house and asked for a deep cleaning. I can’t tell you how thorough the job was— they took their time, cleaned every nook and crevice, cleaned all of the blinds and light fixtures... I could go on and on. A fantastic job, I can’t wait to hire them for regular cleaning. Thank you!!

JN cleaners did a superlative job on our home! Our place was a wreck, and it hasn’t been properly cleaned in a good six months ( probably more). We have dogs and kitties! We had dust. We had blinds that looked like someone was coming or going from the dust. Ana came in and like Cinderella, she transitioned our squatting grounds back into our home! She will be coming each week now! Bravo!!

Hired Bring Me Maids for a deep cleaning prior to placing my house on the market. Team of 2 spent several hours at the house while we were in and out. Unfortunately , we were not home for a walk-thru prior to them leaving. Came home to a house that had in no way been deep cleaned . Toilets dirty, lots of dust on blinds, furniture, and doorframes, dirty hardwood floors, microwave had not even been touched . I was extremely disappointed. Although she offered to come back and "make it right", I had zero trust in them to do this job correctly. She since stopped responding to messages regarding refund. As I had to bring in another cleaning service (and pay again!) just hours after Being Me Maids left, in order to get a true deep cleaning prior to potential buyers coming in the next day. The new company said they had never seen such a poor cleaning job, ever. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone. I only took a couple pictures of my "clean" house. As I was honestly just too upset.

I booked a deep cleaning and carpet cleaning with Toni at least 5 days in advance of the day of cleaning. On the day of the cleaning, she texted me less than an hour before my appointment that she'd be late by a couple hours. When she did show up late at night, she cleaned the place but called me towards the end to say the carpet cleaner was not working. I understood that she was tired and frustrated and she reduced her fee down to just the cleaning fee she quoted here which I appreciated. She said she'd hook me up with other carpet cleaners but that didn't happen because of the short notice. The cleaning as found the next day in better daylight, was sub par. The blinds were still dusty, the kitchen sink was never cleaned and the floor corners still had dust. I have pictures of it that I sent to her. This was an empty condo that I was about to move into. One day before my move I was left with a sub par clean house with dirty carpets. I had to go rent a cleaner from Lowes and do it myself the night before my move. When I told Toni that I wasn't happy with the cleaning, she promised to come by for a 'touch up' and she postponed it twice and eventually stopped replying. I would never hire or recommend this company again. Toni is very personable but I wouldn't get services from her company. Update 08/05 based on your response: I understand emergencies happen and I sympathize. If the appointment was a problem, you could have simply canceled it and saved yourself and me the time, effort and money. The real problem was the quality of work and only half the work being done. Also, not sure what discount you are talking about. Toni quoted me $80 for the deep cleaning to begin with and that's how much she charged me for the cleaning. So, where is the discount again? She quoted $150 total for deep cleaning and carpet cleaning. When she didn't do the carpet cleaning, she quoted the $80 she originally quoted here. Please don't misinform your customers especially when responding to reviews.

I hesitate to write this review because I don’t want to say anything negative about other black owned businesses. But I’m very frustrated. The job felt super rushed. Didn’t feel like our home was a priority for the day. Like it was just something they needed to check off between more important jobs. Most of the blinds weren’t dusted. Counter tops in my living room untouched. Not an ounce of polish given to my furniture. Just wiped really quickly. Our house is generally neat so it just felt like they didn’t see need to actually clean it any further. My bathroom downstairs seems untouched. Didn’t clean behind the faucet at all. I have a 3000 square foot home and they were in and out in an hour. The moping was half-assed. Visible gaps from where the mop actually touched the floor and didn’t. I could go on and on. Very poor attention to detail. I’m going to have to hire another cleaning crew to come next week after paying them a few days ago. I didn’t feel comfortable giving a lot of direction and feedback in the moment. Pointing out things over and over gets awkward. I just hire someone again or I don’t. And sadly, I won’t be rehiring this crew.

Both of the ladies were very nice and pleasant so that’s what I’m providing the 2 stars for. Communication was quick, prices were fair and they squeezed me in the same week. However the cleaning itself was very so-so. There was no attention to detail and there was a lot missed. Since this was my first time with this company, I did a walkthrough with them and in 5 minutes I found at least 5-8 spots that had been completely missed. All of the faucets were half cleaned and the back still has water stains on them. The shower looks the same and was just wiped down. The nightstands still had dust on them so clearly untouched. All of the bottles like hand soap near the sink still had water stains and weren’t wiped down. I found an entire section on the ledge near the blinds that was completely untouched and dusty. We have a modern apartment with straight ledge molding and this still has dust on it so was clearly untouched in most spots. The grooves on the kitchen cabinets still had dust in them. Overall was very sloppy work. When I pointed this out, they got right on it with a positive attitude, which was good. But I shouldn’t have to do a walkthrough every time and these were spots that they easily could’ve seen themselves as the dust was obvious. We also have no carpet and all hardwood. Our rugs haven’t arrived since we moved recently so overall the floors were an easy job but I’m still seeing dust on the bottom leg of my coffee table as I’m typing this. Timing wise, I was texted 20 minutes before my appointment that they were running 45 mins late. I appreciated the text. They arrived 75 mins late. My whole 2 bed 2 bath apt was done in exactly 1 hour which was quick. I would have been very happy with the timing if the work wasn’t so rushed. I will probably try another cleaning service next time.
