The movers took great care of our stuff and wrapped everything extremely well to ensure nothing was damaged or broken. Moving is expensive in general, but I felt we got a fair price and like I said, our valuables were taken care of. We moved a 2BR apt. 20 miles to a house and it took about 6 hours. We had a reasonable amount of belongings but not a ton.

I was looking for a company to pick up and deliver an appliance at the last minute and was not having much luck; I had issues with either the date needed; the next day or the amount quoted for the job. I later saw reviews for Valcin's Moving Company and immediately contacted them. Valcin assured me that he would be able to fit me into his schedule the next day and his quote was very reasonable. I immediately booked the company and received a texted confirmation. The next day, Valcin texted me 2 hours prior and I confirmed location. They arrived promptly as expected and had the work completed within the hour. I was very happy with their prompt response and efficiency in getting this project completed with short notice. I really appreciated them and I would highly recommend this company to anyone needing help moving larger pieces of furniture or appliances.

I TRULY enjoyed my experience with DALowe moving. I was several hours behind schedule and DALowe was still professional and pleasant. Traffic was a factor for both of us but even with that hassle, I was very pleased with the entire experience.

I've never hired a moving company so I was a bit skeptical because of all the horror stories out there. But, after the first 5 minutes that Brandon & Marvin arrived, I knew we had made the right choice! Extremely professional and made moving very easy. They knew exactly how to pack the truck up and took great care of all of our things. They made moving fun and did not complain one bit! Would definitely hire and recommend to anyone looking for movers!!

Above and beyond. Ronnie and his team are a must hire for anyone preparing for a move. They were 15min early, wrapped all our furniture in blankets and wrap for protection, worked fast and were very friendly. When Ronnie accidentally left with my apartment fab he went above and beyond, tracked back across Atlanta after his second move of the day and returned it to us. I highly recommend RLJM moving.

Excellent company for moving! Being a small business owner, I know first hand the quality of service you get when someone cares vs someone just working on hourly pay and not really caring about detail and customer satisfaction! This company reached far above my expectations and I would Highly Recommend! They are especially great with large awkward items as well! Thanks CLE!

I had an AMAZING experience with Tate the Great Moving services. I used them for packing and moving. I provided all of my packing materials and hired the staff for packing. They packed my materials with care and labeled all boxes appropriately. I then used them for moving from Acworth, GA to Atlanta, GA. The guys handled all of my items with great care and treated them like they were their own. They packed the truck very meticulously and ensured all of my items were safe during transport. Before this move, I moved from North Carolina to Acworth, GA. The movers I used then damaged a lot of my items. Not only did Tate's crew take extra special care of my damaged items, they also made recommendations for how I could have them repaired and in some cases they made the small repairs for me. Dexter, Will, and Shaheed were GOD sent!! I could not have asked for a better crew and I told Tate that I want the same three guys the next time I move. You will not be disappointed with this moving crew. They have an excellent spirit, and excellent leader, and they truly do LOVE what they do!! Two thumbs WAY up!!!

I highly recommend MyPorter for your moving needs, they completely exceeded my expectations when it came to my recent move (4/30/18)! I hate moving but have unfortunately have had to make several over the past few years. I've never had a terribly negative experience with past movers, per se, but I had just started to assume companies generally under-quoted moving costs initially and you would end up paying more in the end. MyPorter changed my perception of moving companies completely, they actually beat my quoted time by a full hour! My movers were efficient and professional and I cannot thank them enough for their help!

I don't normally write reviews, but I think this is worth mentioning: I sent a message on the website and got a response right away (Wasn't like one of those queues where you have to wait for a representative). I needed to move last week, kind of at the last minute, and the calendar wouldn't let me book for some reason. The owner explained that bookings have to be 12 hours in advance, so the soonest I could book was the following day. Problem was I really needed to get out that evening (Long story). He asked if he could call me in a few minutes after "seeing what he could do." About 10 minutes later, he called back to say that he had a crew that was finishing up a job near my apartment, and if I was available within the hour, he would send them to get me moved immediately. I was moving one room out of a 2 bedroom apartment, so I'm not sure if that's why he was able to accommodate at the last minute, but he really helped me out. All the other quotes I got were similar or much higher, and they practically laughed at me when I asked about same-day options. Thanks so much for your awesome customer service and for helping me out when I was in a tight spot. I am recommending Metro Moving Company to everyone I know who's moving! I'll definitely move with them again.

Did a great job moving my table at a very fair price. Punctual and responsive. Made sure the table was 100% aligned and even fixed some of the edges for me. I would recommend their service to anyone looking for a professional service...you really need to know what your doing when you are moving a pool table and these guys have got it down.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
