Amanda W. says, "I asked these ladies to decorate a party room at a local restaurant for my daughter’s First Communion reception. They did an amazing job. They were so pleasant to work with. I sent them a couple of pictures of various ideas I found online that I liked, they also contributed some to help me refine the plan. We held a zoom meeting and it was wonderful to put some faces to names and voices on the phone. Any time I had questions, they were very responsive. Also, I was amazed at the price they quoted me, which never changed with the exception of when I added a request for table clothes. For the amount of time I know they put into the whole project, I felt they were worth more for their work. They did an amazing job making my daughter’s day extra special. They treated our religious ceremony with respect and treated me and my family as if we had been friends of theirs for years. Their work was absolutely beautiful. I only wish my pictures had come out better. But the backdrop piece was the main attraction anyway. These ladies asked me questions about my daughter’s personality to find little things to incorporate into the decorations to make it very special and specific to her. They truly are an amazing group to work with and I highly recommend them."See more

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have someone hang your Christmas lights?

It will likely cost between $200 and $400 to hire someone to hang your Christmas lights and holiday decorations. For an accurate cost estimate, ask installers near you to give you a price quote. Let them know if you need them to supply the lights, how many you want to hang and other details about this project.

When should you hang Christmas lights?

There’s no set rule of when you should or shouldn’t hang your Christmas lights. Some homeowners wait until after Halloween or Thanksgiving. Others may choose to hang them a few weeks before Christmas or at the beginning of December.

What do you use to hang Christmas lights outside?

If you want to hang up Christmas lights (or other holiday light fixtures) outdoors, you’ll need the following:

  • Christmas and holiday lights
  • Extension cords
  • Gloves
  • Gutter clips
  • Ladder
  • Power stakes
  • Tape measure

Instead of hanging the Christmas lights yourself, you can hire a professional installer to take care of this project for you.

What is the best way to hang Christmas lights on your house?

The best way to hang Christmas lights on your house is to use some type of light clip (sometimes called gutter clips). To help ensure your safety, however, consider hiring a professional installer who has experience with hanging Christmas lights, handling electrical cords and using ladders.

How many feet of Christmas lights do you need for a house?

You’ll need to measure your house to figure out how many Christmas lights you need. Some homeowners may want to start with 60 feet of lights — or 200 feet. You can take the guesswork out of it by hiring a professional installer or handy person to help you measure and install your lights.

How much do I tip Christmas light installers?

How much you tip an installer who hangs your Christmas and holiday lighting is up to your discretion. Some people prefer to tip about 20% for services, while others may choose to tip anywhere from $20-$50. It’s up to you how much you choose to tip.
