Keith and his team did a great job of designing and installing a drainage system for our property. He was knowledgeable, helpful, and communicated with us throughout the process. And the team leaves things neat and orderly. Well done. Thank you.

The technician was efficient and competent. A bathtub faucet was sticking out from the wall about 1/2 and he handled the request with no problem. It now looks great! Another tub had a drainage problem which was fix with a minimum of effort. Because of the competence and expertise, I will definitely call Master Plumbing for any future issues with my plumbing.

Very pleased with Elmer Forde's work. His price was very reasonable for what turned out to be a complex job, hundreds of dollars less than the next best quote. I intend to have him come once a year to double-check my storm drainage system. I will also recommend him to others.

I highly recommend Marcin. I had Allgood Plumbing come out and they quoted me 800 and did not assure me that would fix the problem and recommended we run a new line for $2000. Marcin came out, diagnosed the problem quickly as just a running toilet that caused my drainage field to flood in my septic system and fixed the problem and the toilet for $275.00. Honest plumbers are hard to find and Marcin is one of those. I will use him for future plumbing needs.

Scott Peck came out the day after I requested a quote using Thumbtack. He was courteous, shared his knowledge and gave me a fair quote on new plumbing for a utility room on my ground floor. We agreed on a day for the job. He and his son arrived on time. We discussed the job again so that neither of us had any surprises. The job involved removal of a section of the wall, breaking into the concrete slab to attach the proper drainage pipes and connecting new water lines to pvc pipe that was 22 years old. There were no splintered pipes and no mess left at all. When they finished, it looked great. Scott and Andy did a fabulous job! I highly recommend using Alpha Plumbing.

Although technically the plumbing job was not an emergency (sewerage was not pouring onto the floor), I could not use any toilets or take a shower until the job was done. Others were all saying they could not give me an estimate until they arrived. I have had this clogged toilet issued repeatedly and knew precisely what had to be done. Pipe DreamZ Water and Sewer delayed less urgent customers in order to come to my home at 7:00 pm to clear the line. The price matched the estimate given. Both of us were satisfied. Others who said "You never know what it could be" just irritated me. Further, Pipe Dreamz suggested 3 solutions that would prevent this from recurring. 1 - use CHEAP toilet paper that breaks up quicker and easier in the long pipe that runs horizonally the length of the house. That will SAVE me money. 2. Flush twice - Kind of defeating the purpose of the darned low-flow toilets. 3. If that does not work, since this problem started when I had to replace the original toilets with low-flow toilets, he suggested I upgrade to toilets that flush with more power. That would cost perhaps $800 but would put a end to these clogs. This guy is a true professional (and a really nice person)!

Evan from wildly handy did a superb job taking care of my home improvement needs. Due to water issues I needed a new drainage plan for my gutters and mulch beds in front and back of the house. Evan installed an in ground pvc system and channel drain, with the addition of a small patio in back to further divert water away from the rear of the house. He also put in a retaining wall and stairway ramp, using 6x6s on a hilly section of back yard. All of his work seems top notch and very functional and effective. He also provided some excellent carpentry work in adding a new 4x4 support structure for my old basement stairs and back deck stairs. I am very satisfied with his work and would definitely use his services again and highly recommend him.

Lawrence came out and quickly identified a possible source of the problem. He returned the next day and went to work to resolve the issue. He worked diligently to solve and fix the drainage backup while keeping me informed of his progress all along the way. Lawrence puts the Pro in professional. He is an even keeled individual and a very nice person. I am pleased and feel he was the right man for the job, for me. I will hire him again in the future if there is another plumbing problem. Thanks Lawrence and Thumbtack.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
