Lawrence was the instructor first to point out the importance of club grip, aim at target and bringing my left hand more into play on the follow throug. This was the beginning of a better swing for me. With all golf instructors and fees, not enough time is my only complaint.

I've been taking lessons from Larry for years, he's truly an amazing teacher and person. He's taken my game to the next level and taught me how to correct my most common flaws, making my game more consistent than ever. His attention to detail, knowledge of the golf swing and passion for the game is amazing. He's always refining his techniques and has a knack for explaining things in a way that is easy for anyone to understand. I really appreciate the fact that he's taught me how to identify what is causing certain shots and how I can fix it. He's never cancelled a lesson or been late and has been known to spend as much time as needed to finish the job. I always look forward to spending time learning from Larry, sharing a few laughs and hearing stories. I wouldn't hesitate to refer anyone to Larry for golf lessons.

Half golf instructor, half guru, Michael is fantastic at identifying your swing flaws and correcting them quickly. He'll use video to show you what you're doing. He'll even go out to the course with you sometimes. It doesn't hurt that he's overall a really nice guy.

I have used a number of golf instructors. I never really made substantial progress though until I met Don. He has a great teaching style that has enabled me to improve drastically in a relatively short time and helped me understand, as I am playing, how to correct my swing. I highly recommend Don to anyone looking to really improve their game.

Eddie Halsell is a talented instructor (and player!). He customized my swing from set up to finish while teaching sound fundamentals of the golf swing. His instruction is easy to understand and detailed so that my backswing, downswing and impact gave me the results I wanted. Eddie's playing lessons are second to none. He developed my mental game so that I could enjoy playing the golf course instead of just going through the mechanics of my swing for each shot. Eddie has been my golf instructor for 3 years, and he is the only instructor I trust my golf swing.

it has been my pleasure to have Michael Bonetti as my golf fitness instructor for several years-When I first started working out with Michael, I was having lower back pain and flexibility issues-I no longer have any issues with my lower back and have greatly increased my strength while gaining flexibility and greater turn in my golf swing-I highly recommend Michael to anyone who plays golf on a regular basis and is looking to move their game up a level or two-

I have worked with Bill for over2 years. He has fit every club in my bag., given me psychological advice for my golf game and has made me a better golfer with lots of confidence. He has cured me of the yips, made me understand my swing and my distances. Although I have played for 50 years, I have learned more about my golf game in the last 2 years than the previous 48.

Chris has a lot of knowledge about golf and has been involved with golf for many years. He tries to help you get better with whatever swing you have instead of trying to fix your swing. Saw changes in my ball striking ability with just a few changes to setup. I would recommend and use his classes in future.

I've been holding for 15+ years and have never taken a lesson. I could score in 70's a handful of times but would also shoot low 90's the next week. I was tired of the inconsistency. Once I signed up with Jeff and saw my swing on video was a little embarrassed and ashamed that it took me this long to seek help. Now, I'm building a repeatable consistent swing and I am really enjoying the results.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What makes a good golf instructor?

A good golf instructor is someone who has the playing skill you’d like to achieve, is qualified to teach golf, and is someone you can get along with. Some experts recommend you only take golf lessons from coaches with active accreditation from reputable associations such as the PGA, LPGA, or similar organizations that focus on continuing education. You’ll be spending hours out on the green with the pro during lessons, so a good rapport, strong communication and the right personality fit are key. A proven track record is also important. Read reviews from their current and former students to make sure they have helped people achieve their golfing goals, and always ask about the instructor’s experience before signing on for lessons. Years of providing lessons can contribute to a deeper understanding of how to teach the sport. Just because your friend or partner is great at golf doesn’t mean they’ll give good golf lessons. Invest in a professional golf instructor who knows how to teach the sport from short game to full swing.

What age should you start golf lessons?

Golf lessons for kids can start as early as age four or five. They’re too young for formal training, but you can keep them interested and engaged and give them a feel for the game. U.S. Kids Golf recommends starting formal training for junior golfers at six years old. It’s important for young golfers to swing clubs that are the right length and weight for their body; U.S. Kids Golf provides a fitting guide.

Golf lessons for kids, especially young kids, should be about encouraging success rather than correcting mistakes, according to U.S. Kids Golf. If you want your child to love golf for life, you want their early experiences to be positive. Golf lessons for kids are less expensive than golf lessons for adults. A monthly rate (including four lessons) for group golf lessons for kids may average $100. Semi-private golf lessons for kids may range from $150 to $200 per month. Location and instructor reputation can also affect cost. Often, discounts are provided when multiple months are purchased at one time.

    How much are golf lessons?

Golf lessons are a great way to break into the sport or take your golf game to a new level. The national average cost for golf lessons is $50-$60, but prices will vary based on what type of lessons you want. The most expensive golf lessons will be private instruction with top-tier coaches. These are golf instructors who have held high professional ranking and have a good reputation. Regardless of who is teaching, private instruction is always more costly than couples’ lessons or small group lessons (usually up to four people). Teachers often offer a lower price per lesson when you buy a package of several lessons at one time. Here are some examples of average golf lesson costs:

    • Individual lessons:
      • Standard pricing for 60-minute private lesson: $60.
      • 60-minute lesson with renowned golf coach: $100.
    • Couples’ lessons:
      • Standard pricing for 90-minute duo lesson: $100.
      • 60-minute lesson with renowned golf coach: $125.
    • Golf lesson package pricing:
      • Purchase six individual lessons at one time and save $10.
      • Purchase 10 individual lessons at one time and save $40.
      • Purchase six couples’ lessons at one time and save $40.
      • Purchase 10 couples’ lessons at one time and save $200.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
