I am not satisfied with the result of my project. I had an astragal (center pierce) replaced on my French patio doors to seal gaps. There are still gaps in the door and the contractor rigged weather stripping as a solution. I am not sure if their workmanship is limited based on the nature of my doors or if they were unwilling to explore other solutions.
They were very rushed, and accidentally stabbed a utility knife into my new flooring.
I followed up with them stating that I was not pleased with the solution, and asked if they were still interested in installing storm doors to reach a better weather sealing solution. We had discussed this when they were on site and this would have provided further work as a means to resolve my issue while still profiting them.
It has been two weeks and they have not responded. I am grateful for this as it has pushed me to proceed with established door companies to completely replace my patio doors.
Out of 5+ Thumbtack experiences, I have had one semi positive. Even then, the contractor hung my light fixture crooked, I pointed it out, then he fixed it.
My point is that freelance contractors on Thumbtack are a risk. Their schedules, level of communication, sense of urgency, care for your home, and workmanship are questionable in my experience. That’s just the nature of this platform.
I have finally learned my lesson and will be deleting the app.
