Introduction: Music is a language. What do you want to say? After over a decade as a working musician and earning his master’s degree in Jazz Studies from Georgia State University, Jason is imparting the musical lessons he has learned to others who want to make music a part of their lives. Jason has the broad base of knowledge and experience to take any student beyond the technical aspects of their individual discipline to explore rhythm, harmony, form, style, and ear training. Becoming proficient on an instrument is only part of the journey; Jason’s goal is to help each student use that instrument as a vehicle to become fluent in the language of music. The trumpet is one of the most physically and mentally demanding instruments, so Jason has developed a multi-tiered, age-specific curriculum for it built on a foundation of proper technique and developmental repertoire encompassing classical and jazz styles. From there, he can tailor lessons to the interests and goals of each student. Jason is currently accepting students (age 10 and up) for private instruction in trumpet, singing, composing/arranging, and beginning piano at his home studio in Decatur. Nothing gives me more joy than making music, and seeing the smiles that it creates!

Jason gave trumpet lessons to my eleven old son. He was always very prompt, courteous, and professional. But beyond that, my son absolutely loved taking lessons with Jason. He is very talented and passionate about his music and a natural teacher. My son's playing improved tremendously and his love of both the trumpet and music in general soared. I cannot recommend Jason enough to anyone wanting to learn or improve their playing.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Trumpet lessons are priced on three different tiers. I offer 30 minute= $35 45 minute= $45 60 minute = $50 You may choose to pay by lesson or monthly which is the most popular method, and it includes a free introductory lesson. If referred to a friend or bandmate , you also receive a lesson fee discounted off your monthly bill if they decide to take lessons for a month.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For new customers I like to assess their own personal music goals , and tailor fit a curriculum that is engaging and beneficial. The most important aspect of playing trumpet is developing a sound technique and approach to music that can translate to any genre or situation.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelors of Music from Georgia State University, and i am currently pursuing my Masters in Jazz Studies. I was awarded the Johnny Mercer assistantship where my duties were to compose unpublished works for the Georgia State University Jazz Ensemble. I also played lead trumpet for the Georgia State University Jazz ensemble from 2016- 2018 , and I'm very active on the Atlanta music scene.
